Striking Distance Studios’ supremely promising survival horror The Callisto Protocol has gone gold ahead of its release on 2nd December, 2022. For those of you not up to speed with industry lingo, the phrase “gold” refers to the phase at which a game’s code is finalised, and submitted to platform holders for publication and manufacturing. Of course, work will likely continue through until launch on a day one patch.
Nevertheless, ultimately this means there’ll be no delays, and you can look forward to playing the game in a few short weeks. It’ll certainly round out an exciting end to the year, with highly anticipated titles like God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Midnight Suns still right around the corner. The summer may have been slow for new PS5 releases, but the year’s ending with a bang.

Can’t wait, roll on December
Aside from Ragnarök, this is easily the game I'm looking forward to the most for the remainder of the year.
You know I really hope all these horror games do really well not only in reviews but a ton of sales so we can have potentially many more to come. Personally for me horror has dried up massively in recent years with only a 20 min scene in RE8 being horror from a triple A release. RE7 and RE2 remake being the only exception and RE3 remake was a massive disappointment. But all that looks to be changing. Callisto Protocol, Dead Space, RE4 and Silent Hill. Always got a love hate relationship with RE4 over the years but my god that RE4 remake from what we've seen so far looks so good and that knife defense machanic got my excited and its darker tones and atmosphere looks different from the 05 original. So hopefully it's much more scary this time round
Did I read right that this will be cheaper to buy than the Dead Space remake?
Whatever the case, this does look pretty good.
Between this and DS remake, these are good times for space horror junkies.
Btw on that note, I highly recommend Cosmodread if you have a VR headset.
Easily my most anticipated game of the year. Already have the Digital Deluxe Edition pre-ordered and counting down to release day. CAN’T. WAIT!!
With the way Sony are marketing this game, it makes it feel like a first party game for PlayStation. That in itself makes me think that Striking Distance may be an Acquisition target by Sony. Would not be sad to see that happen personally.
Hyped for this one. Please be good
@Bionic-Spencer I wouldn't mind that either based on how this game's shaping up, but isn't Striking Distance like a subsidiary of PUBG/Krafton...? Or is Striking Distance independent and this just a publishing arrangement?
Yessssss my soul is ready. Hope it's a great ride
Great stuff to look forward to, Evil west, GOW, Calisto protocol, Deadspace, RE4.
@Sable yep physical ive seen sub 50.
EA have got on the 70 quid bandwagon
this is my next big game gona dive into it, at the mo im mucking about with visual novel games dusk falls got me into them il be back on the saddle with this game tide me over till they get the latest gears of war released.
@Sable yeah funny callisto is cheaper than DS remake, by quite abit, I'm guessing EA saw last of us 1 remake sold fine and well at top price....
It's a bit of an unrelated question, but does anyone know where the term "gone gold" actually originated?
How can we be so sure that the game has gone gold when even cyberpunk had to delay it again after they said it?
God of war and the callisto protocol are my 2 most upcoming hyped games of the remaining year.its n.i.c.e that its gone gold.word up son
I've had this pre-ordered for months. I can't wait.
@Bionic-Spencer They're owned by Krafton, so I don't see them being aquired by Sony.
Can't believe that this game has already gone Gold. I fully expect it to go Platinum around the time of release!
I'll be getting it day 1 looks great
Horror games have been done to death.
Still put off by the crunch that Glenny boy admitted to in a tweet. That's not passion, that's bad management. As someone who's been on the shank-end of that one too many times, I ain't havin' it!
@Cycologist No it hasn't, they've literally been dead for practically the entire last generation.
Happy news! I'll def be pre-ordering the game closer to launch.
@RBMango No interest in the Crisis Core remaster?
What!? I always thought these "gone gold" articles related to a certain number of preorder sales. Huh. Also, this game looks awesome.
It'll get excellent reviews. We're ready!!
has anyone in the media outlet space actually gone hands on with this game yet?
I have a suspicion on this one that it may turn out to be highly overrated and somewhat disappointing at launch with technical issues as well.
Hoping for the best though.
Looks great, cannot wait
@Mythologue Before digital it meant a master copy had been printed to disc, the first print was usually done on a gold colored disc, hence the "gone gold". Nowadays, it it doesn't really mean much of anything, it's just a development milestone signifying that it's nearing release and has been given publishing approval by platform holders .
Top 3 games this year hands down for me are Elden ring, Ragnarok, and pressumably Callisto. Can't wait for not dead space 4.
Definitely shootinyg load on this game!
