Hoping to hop on Overwatch 2? Good luck with that! The game’s been riddled with disconnects and sever timeouts all evening, due to what Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra is describing as a “mass DDoS attack”. He wrote: “Unfortunately we are experiencing a mass DDoS attack on our servers. Teams are working hard to mitigate/manage. This is causing a lot of drop/connection issues.”
Considering the clear scale of the situation, there’s currently no word on when the problems will be resolved. An official page for the game acknowledges “server disconnects” as a Known Issue, but clearly the problem has multiplied as the evening has worn on. Assuming we can eventually get connected, we’re hoping to bring you our verdict on the free-to-play sequel in the coming days.

Im guessing most will be like me and not have a clue what DDoS means. Here ya go:
A distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack is a malicious attempt to disrupt the normal traffic of a targeted server, service or network by overwhelming the target or its surrounding infrastructure with a flood of Internet traffic.
Whoever did this is a guardian of mankind fr, maintaining world peace like that 🙏
I guess the hackers think their making some kind of stand but at the end of the day there preventing people from playing the game so it's scummy regardless.
Hackers are so scummy. There's always that one jerk that wants to ruin it for others.
@Goat_FromBOTW it's fine to not like Overwatch or Activision/Blizzard but lets not praise people who are actively out trying to prevent others from having fun.
If this was happening to your game of choice I'm pretty sure you wouldn't singing the same tune.
What they're doing is counterintuitive. They're just getting people to rally to Blizzard's side as they deal with the issues and when they finally get in they're so happy just to play that they'll ignore some of the bigger issues this game has.
There's always gotta be a party pooper. I'll never understand people that do this sort of thing. Sorry to the folks that wanted to play today.
@torne I was kinda kidding, obviously it’s wrong to do this. I was just playing on the whole “World Peace while Overwatch 1 is down” meme

These people are losers..probably scared of their own shadows and relish in the fact they get attention and nobody knows who they are..until they get caught, sent to prison and have to pick up the soap....
This is why we can’t have nice things.
I’ve heard they are lying about the DDOS attack just to get people on their side. The claim is they’ve just done a bad job transitioning everything over and claiming this helps them to save face.
This info could be wrong as well. Considering we’ll never truly know the truth, it is what it is and I don’t really care.

@WebHead Please dont call them hackers you can order this crap and have no skills.

@OmegaStriver the truth is out there...
@Uncharted2007 now you've done it...you are todays tree shaker 👍
Yea mp games are future!!! 👍
Pretty stupid the hate overwatch gets
@Ken_Kaniff I love singleplayer games, but I really enjoy multiplayer games as well. I enjoy playing them with my kids and my buddies. I’ve loved playing Borderlands 3 and Dying Light 2 with my kids recently for example. A big issue I currently have with multiple games, is that even though I have quite a bit of time to game, I don’t have time for all these battlepasses. I play games with my family more than we watch tv, but these battlepasses just require too much time. Granted, that’s a me problem. I usually play Fortnite with my kids, but so far, I’m skipping this season.
there are always two sides to a coin I wouldn't be surprised if they deserve this. but what do I know..
@BartoxAbrasiveness Just responded to someone but if its not allowed ill accept it. Just dont like the standard its the left or right especially when its not backed up.
I dont feel sorry for the company one little bit. They have presided over some awful behaviours and work practices, they will never get my sympathy, or my money.
But this type of attack really only hurts the players who were excited to play a new game, so it cannot be supported at all and I hope they can get the servers up soon so people can play..
This is not the way to go about resolving grievances and this mainly hurts innocent people who just want to enjoy their hobby and now had a special launch ruined.
I’ll never respect anyone who does this kind of thing.
@Titntin you said it perfectly. I have no interest in supporting Activision/Blizzard or giving them any more of my money, but this isn’t how you take a stand. The people that were looking forward to this and the devs (that aren’t engrossed in the culture) who spent long hard hours are the ones being hurt, not the higher ups who are the ones who should be punished.
@Titntin i cant condone the culture thats been prevaliant at activision/blizzard but these actions only affect the gamers in the end..so yes i agree with you but i'm still buying modern warfare 2 and diablo 4 when they are released..
@OmegaStriver I completely agree. Im currently playing Fallout 76 and I have yet to even get close to finishing there battle pass for a season. Thats why I'll always prefer single player games because you can play them on your own time. Mp games nowadays feel more like chore than a game to me.
@Northern_munkey
Diablo 4 is a tough one for me - I've waited so long to play it.
I guess I might excuse myself a play of it via Game Pass, I would not be directly giving them money....
I can’t play it anyway because it won’t accept my phone number for this new anti-Smurf verify with your phone thing. Anyone else been basically walled out by that?
@Titntin fair do's
@Totheteeth Yup! I recently got a new phone number, but there’s no way to update it in my account because their stupid system sends the verification code to a phone number that no longer exists and it doesn’t give the option to verify via email. Tried contacting support, but they aren’t responding right now, probably due to all the issues they’re having all at once.
@OmegaStriver Not surprising people think the DDoS isn’t real. They’re launching a free to play sequel to a highly successful multiplayer game on Xbox One, Series S/X, PS4, PS5, Switch, and PC all on the same day AND with cross play. We’ve seen this from many different studios many times over the years. When the servers are getting hammered hard enough there’s basically no difference between an overload due to high player numbers and a DDoS. The DDoS floods the servers with requests just as millions of client devices would flood the servers with requests. Blizzard probably just trying to cover their own screw-up of not being prepared. Let’s not forget this happens with basically every Activision-Blizzard multiplayer release.
Edit: not trying to be too harsh here. I’m not too bothered by the servers being down at the moment. I’m okay waiting a week or two for things to get ironed out.
Of course DDoS... muhehehehe... Blizzard really should learn difference between DDoS and Insufficient server capacity... Every "online" game they release is having connection issues. Get use to it.
overwatch 1 not good enough no more? pretty bad taking a game offline. a lot can be said for offline games, any game i have in my library i can play when and whenever i want.these live service games zero interest we'll just take it away heres a new one we took stuff out to make you pay more. na im ok keep it 😂
