Last week we brought you word that Sony is building a new internal development team in partnership with PSS Visual Arts. Based in San Diego, this secretive support studio previously contributed to the recently released The Last of Us: Part I, from developer Naughty Dog. Now another job listing in the San Diego area has given us more food for thought, indicating that this mysterious team will be "co-developing an exciting new project with Naughty Dog in a beloved franchise.”
According to reporting from Bloomberg last year, Visual Arts had initially wanted to remake the first Uncharted game, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, but due to the nature of that title and the work that would have been required, priorities were instead shifted to The Last of Us: Part I. Drake's Fortune could legitimately use a remake to bring it in line with the rest of the franchise, and so perhaps this is something we might see further down the line?
While it is entirely possible that the San Diego team is working on some kind of mind-blowing next instalment in the Jak & Daxter franchise, the smart money says this is the oft-rumoured return of Uncharted. As anyone who beat Uncharted 4 knows, the stage is set for an all-new era of adventuring, and one we at least are ready to revisit.
What do you think is going on in San Diego? What do you think is the "beloved franchise" the job listing refers to? Let us know in the comments section below.

I love uncharted but I am so ready for a new ip at this point!
I'm really hoping it's Jak & Daxter. It's an absolute travesty that they haven't done more with that franchise... except nod to it as an Easter egg in all their other games. Talk about rubbing salt in the wound... again and again and again.
Please just make a new game
Jak & Daxter? Sly Cooper? 😃
@Ward_ting naughty dog has a new ip in development too this is a collaborative project.
@4kgk2 even if they have a new ip in the works I’m still ready for them to work on a ip that isn’t Uncharted. As others have mentioned Jak & Daxter would be great. However, with the recent movie and the PC ports etc I expect Uncharted to not be going anywhere anytime soon. It’s a great franchise, don’t get me wrong, I am just ready for something different.
One article is dedicated to an adjective and name: beloved franchise 🤣
Manic Miner is back!
I want there to be a new IP from the company, but I don't care if there are remakes of the JAK & DAXTER series or remakes of the UNCHARTED 1-3 games
Given the Legacy of Thieves Collection didn't include Uncharted 4's multiplayer (much like how TLoU Part 1 didn't include Factions), the upcoming project is probably an Uncharted live service game.
If it's a new installment, I hope it's a follow up to Lost Legacy. Drake's story is done the way I see it. If it's remaking again, even the first one, I couldn't care less. I'm done with it.
I'd love it to be Uncharted but I think it will end up being Jak & Daxter. I'm excited for either, just favour Uncharted more.
He'll no SONY we don't want a Uncharted remake, retake, reflake, or whatever you call it. If you are run of the ideas that's fine, but stop releasing same games over and over again.
Uncharted PSVR2. You know you want it.
Uncharted 1 would be deserving of a remake. I agree with that. It’s not aged so well, as much as the rest of the series has. I’d prefer something else, of course, but I’d understand if it happened.
The only thing I'd be interested in is Uncharted. If it's a remake of the first or GA... they'd better do it justice and the original cast had better return. If it's a new Uncharted just do it justice. Keep the levity and adventure.
@Eldritch Mascots simply aren't popular anymore. Naughty Dog have moved past them.
Even Crash Bandicoot 4 couldn't sell well.
lou2 remake probably.
ND desperately need something new.
Cool.more games is always welcome.and naughty dog is one of the video games industry best.word up son
If they do the obvious pass the torch after 4 I’ll be dissapointed and uninterested. Give me more Drake, maybe a Sully spin off, and I’ll bite. But 4 was lackluster enough that making another game that shows Drake’s done would do away with my interest.
@naruball I point blank refuse to accept facts! Especially if they're only based on the truth... because, feelings.
If it is a new Uncharted game I can see it being Nathan's daughter as the main character. You've only gotta see how intrigued and facsinted she was of her dad's work at the end of Uncharted 4
@Ward_ting thats why naughty dog is having another studio do uncharted while they work on a new game.
I need to see Naughty Dog make a new IP badly but if is Uncharted I hope it's not a prequel. I prefer moving the story foward not backwards so I hope we play as the new character introduced at the very end of 4.
@PlayStationGamer3919 in the article the studio making the uncharted game is the new san degio studio. naughty dog is making a new game.
This bloody well better be "Resistance," with our old friend Nathan Hale. The first one was a masterpiece. Anything else they can shove up their beloved backsides.
Please no more Uncharted.
The games are fine but to me are something of the era that they were released. I think gaming has moved on from cover shooters
How did Uncharted 4 leave it open for another when Lost Legacy actually did a better job of leaving it open for a sequel.
@nathanSF I mean that was an Insomniac game.
Naughty Dog milks the same 2 franchises over and over.
@pharos_haven D'oh! Hahaha. I've been missing that game too long.
@Tecinthebrain naughty dog is passing the series to another studio , while they move on to something else.
Really hoping they finally give us a new/ remade Jak & Daxter. They've neglected the duo for far too long.
We had all the crash rehashes and LoU remaster already and Nate's retired as of Uc4.
Hell, if Insomniac can successfully revive both Spyro and Ratchet & Clank then Naughty Dog have no excuse whatsoever.
If it was them, it would have to be set in the future plus, who wants to see them going through that kind of scenario? Stick with chloe if its not Nate. I couldnt handle a Sam or Nadine game.
I would love to see an Uncharted 5! Uncharted was one of the main reasons I bought a PS3 and PS4 as I loved the series! Although 4 wasn’t the greatest of the games, after I played through it 3 times, I really came to appreciate the story. Graphically it was an awesome game aswell, so that was a bonus. I am sounding like I’m in the minority, but I would love to have Nathan back as the main character along with Sully. The game wouldn’t have to be set directly after the end of 4, but I’m sure a new adventure could have been squeezed in after that game ended on Libertalia! One other thing I would love to see would be the supernatural approach that Amy Hennig brought to the series being replicated. I was always waiting for Ghost Pirates to suddenly appear at the end of 4, but as it ended up it wasn’t meant to be. One more time? Oh Yes!!
No more remakes, especially of games that have already been remastered and play perfectly fine as they are.
I'd take another Uncharted if it went a bit more exploration focused and less scripted but to be honest the only Naughty Dog sequel I want is The Last of Us 3, outside of that I'd rather have a new IP
@Lineysa @Beeeee-AHH-eer @Avishayafriat @Kairu @Ward_ting @BadPlayerOne @Eldritch I'd love another brand new Jak game, we haven't had one since Jak 3 or Jak X Combat Racing (I don't count Lost Frontier as canon).
@KidBoruto You're missing out Daxter, released 2006, which was good fun. Although unless you've got a PSP, or can find it on an emulator, you'll be out of luck playing that one. I've still got mine on the PSP so may have to have a playthrough just for old time's sake. lol
@Eldritch My bad, I remember loving Daxter alot! I beat the game at least two times on my PSP.
@Lineysa I agree with you, they have no excuse.
Just a small correction, Spyro is a brand of Activision Blizzard and not Insmaniac
