Surprising no one, Google recently announced plans to shut down Stadia, its ambitious but underwhelming cloud gaming service. While it's a shame things didn't work out, the main concern users have had in the meantime is what will happen to their purchased games and save data. Fortunately, some developers are making it possible to rescue your saves and revive them on alternate platforms, and that now includes Cyberpunk 2077.
CD Projekt RED has outlined the process here. It's quite convoluted, but it's now possible to migrate your save data from Stadia to PC. From there, you're also able to sync it up with consoles, including PS5 and PS4. To do so, you'll need to use Google Takeout to download your save to your computer, then open a GOG account if you don't already have one, boot up the game on PC, enable cross-platform saves, load up your data, and save once again. This should then be accessible on your console version.
Again, CD Projekt RED's page on this provides the full method in much more detail, so if you're planning to retrieve your Stadia save, that's where to go. Will you be doing this to keep your progress in Cyberpunk 2077? Tell us in the comments section below.

That's nice of them to outline this process. Sure it sounds a little confusing but at least folks that played on Stadia can carry on with their save. Especially since Stadia was weirdly one of the better places to play Cyberpunk at launch.
Nice that it helps some ppl out but ....so you have to own the pc version too? So it only really helps those that own stadia/pc and console versions ?
After a quick Google u can play stadia games on pc ,makes more sense now
Heh, a Proper Platform. Never a truer statement been made.
All three Stadians are over the moon at this news.
(I know that's such a terrible and lazy joke at this point, but you just can't resist.)
@Martsmall That was my first though as well. Stadia, being a cloud service, meant you couldn't actually ever own the games, just rent them, but you still had to pay full price for them, which should be illegal as everyone can now plainly see, so in order to move your save data to console you have to buy the game again, hopefully in a form you can actually buy to own this time.
So really, it makes sense for every company to do this, b/c it means you paid for a game once you could never own to have it disappear, and now you have to buy it again on console just to keep your save data.
Stadia was so stupid from the start. How well would Netflix work if you had to pay $19.99 for every movie you watched? 🤷 Same for cloud games on Switch. 🤑
Good on them for doing this.
@rjejr I'm glad I'm not the only one lol I've never subbed to stadia ( like most ppl ) so I was a bit perplexed at the thought of owning 3 copies of the same game
I am amazed that Cyberpunk has PC/PS4/PS5 save file transfer. This is cool, I would like more games to do it.
By the way I wanted to try Stadia but it was never available where I live.
Are you inferring that servers don't get shut down elsewhere 🤦 everything has an expiry date and you almost never get a full refund. Somy has shut servers down on their own games 😂 they even tried to bin off the vita store.
@rjejr guess what anything you 'own' digitally is just a license, the hysteria surrounding stadia is hilarious.
a proper one 😂🤣 good one , yea i was so glad the quarry was took away from that mess. not having a physical disc for your hard earned cash doesnt appeal to me.
@Victor_Meldrew anything digital drm free is what you want so you can download it to a hard drive to install when amd whenever you want. good old games is very good for that ive all my installer packs and dlcs on a hdd and another hdd ive a back up on.
loved his show one foot in the grave was good 🤣😂
@rjejr you didn't need a subscription to play games you owned. you rent from most digital platforms. for example psp/ps3/vita
@Lolcat You bought the games, but you also needed to buy the controller first, didn't you? Or sign up for a Founders pack or something. I feel like there was a Pro subscription as well. Netflix got off to a great start from streaming not just from being first but also from being hardest agnostic.
@Victor_Meldrew Guess what, anything you own digitally you can play for as long as you have whatever you are storing your digital contents on, HDD, SSD, SD card, so its basically EXACTLY THE SAME THING AS PHYSICAL, where you also only have a license. Streaming you get squat. See Stadia.
Wait, does cyberpunk have crossplatform save?
Cheeky headline. The Stadia idea was good but before its time. I think cloud gaming is the future but the industry just lacks the infrastructure to support it for now.
@lankieBD If you can't afford a next gen console should you really be "buying" games to stream for $60 though? Really doesn't matter to me how good the tech gets, nobody should pay full MSRP of $60 or $70 for a "purchase" that's only useful as long as the company selling it to you allows you to stream it. All streaming games are rented, price should reflect that. I'm fine w/ cloud streaming rental services like Gamepass.
Article doesnt articulate which console just supported consoles. Im guessing all platforms that run the game. Xbox, ps.
@lankieBD "Google are giving full refunds for all game purchases but I gather that's for legal purposes"
That is Google's saving grace here. I don't think that many people spent that much money on it so it probably won't break their massive bank account of $125 BILLION cash on hand. And they'll just write it down as a tax write-off loss or some such legalese tax gibberish where they get it all back from the gov't.🤑
