God of War Ragnarok Is the Fastest-Selling First-Party Sony Game Ever

And it is well deserved. I am far from done with GWR but enjoying it immensely on PS5.

Wow this is amazing and fully deserved as the game is honestly the best PlayStation game I’ve ever played as 2018 was also, this also means God of War is already the most valuable franchise in Sony’s portfolio even more than Spider-Man!

Loving this game so far! I'm not surprised it's been selling so well.

Also, the record holder before God of War Ragnarok was The Last of Us Part II. Weird that the article doesn't mention this.

If they know that number this quickly Id' be curious to see the breakdown between PS4 and PS5, and also physical and digital. Though I suppose that last one would be hard to do since the physical collectors edition had digital games so I'm nto even sure where to count that version. 😝

Has to be like 4-1 PS5 - PS4 I would think, even w/ PS4 version being $10 cheaper. Number would probably be even higher if there were more PS4 sales w/ 23m copies of the first half, I mean first game, already sold. 🙄

And some were saying PlayStation would stop making single player games. Well deserved to everyone at SMS .

I don't think it's as good as 2018 GOW. I would rate it solid 8.5, graphics aren't that much different from PS4 era and there are gameplay improvements, diversity improvements, but I did miss the 'wow' factor to play in here. 5 years apart and it just felt more like actual continues sequel which it was, but I think it hid it's identity so it didn't make it feel like a brand new game. Rather like a full scale DLC.

Edit. To summarize GOW 2018 will forever stay my Game of the Year I guess.

Well deserved! Looks amazing and so smooth on PS5 at 1440p with an uncapped frame rate and VRR. Especially on my LG C1 OLED. Got my Platinum a few days ago. Can't wait to see what Santa Monica comes out with next!

@Bamila Ragnarok is an evolution of GOW 2018, which is what every sequel should be. There are also plenty of twists throughout the game. Don't understand where this nonsensical " DLC " argument comes from.

Well deserved. I'm 31 hours in and the game just keeps getting better. I'm doing a lot of the side content, and then I stumbled upon a whole new area in one of the realms which is absolutely stuffed with sorely needed upgrade materials and side-missions. Sorry main quest-line, you're going to have to wait a while.

Thank the god of war, we have these amazing games, and it is not left to that numb nuts of a company called Microsoft with Xbox, to try and release something half decent.
I actually now want Sony and Nintendo to bury the hell out of Xbox and Microsoft and hope they leave the console market.
Overall they have been worse this new generation than the Xbox one generation and have nothing to show for two years, apart from throwing money around. Let’s bury them for eternity.

While Horizon has the edge for me first party wise this year, the sales don't come as a surprise. It is a fine game.

@Dezzy70 Microsoft is doing amazing job when it comes to allowing many more millions of people get into gaming. Out of the big 3 only they have the infrastructure and money to do it.

As for their games... they will soon own Activision Blizzard.

I hope this convinces Sony to continue making single player games after Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine.

While I'm definitely a bit cooler on the game than most, congrats to Santa Monica. Despite my issues with it, it's still a pretty solid game.

I'll always be happy to see single player games do well.

How have people got platinums already!? it's only been out 2 weeks 🤯 I hope you all got fully immersed and enjoyed everything in full without feeling like you are rushing to do everything though. I can't get my head around how it's possible lol

I could spend at least a week just looking at the environments in some AAA games 😅😅 can't wait to play it some time at my more leisurely pace ha ha

Probably the best game out of this gen.

If anyone is having trouble with the end-game bosses (or any of the bosses), you can turn on a very helpful ‘cheat’ in the accessibility settings. It gives you a checkpoint mid-fight, so if you die you can restart the fight with the boss at 50% health bar (you have to get the boss below 50% health initially for it to work). But if you keep dying, you don’t have to do it all again. You also get all of your own health, rage and revive stones back too. Handy tip to know and one I wish I knew before pulling all of my hair out 😂

Completed the game 100% and it’s easily my favourite game in the last 5 years, maybe more.

I don’t think they really aregetting millions of more people in gaming. I can only go by the UK but both console S and X are sitting on shelves stagnating and really not selling.
There is is no new big AAA game attraction and game pass is not all that else the consoles would be selling.
Don’t forget every week a 6 year old console and a more expensive console, both without game pass, are now selling over double the Xbox consoles. We are not that interested in Xbox they have failed us yet again.

@Dezzy70 The cheap price of gamepass and xcloud will do more to attract new gamers than anything Sony and Nintendo can afford to do. Remember that now more than ever you don't need a console or a tv to play games.

Well it hasn’t so far and it won’t do.
You can tell by Xbox console sales not that many are really interested in game pass, if it was that fabulous then the consoles would sell as well.
Sell a console sell a game pass.
Actually sales have got worse for Xbox in UK and Europe and even the USA Sony and Nintendo are sometimes nearly doubling weekly Xbox sales.
They lost and wasted this generation Xbox.
They thought we were cheap and we wanted a load of old games and AA games for cheap on game pass they were wrong.
We want real new big AAA games at £70 and we don’t care about cheap game pass.

@Dezzy70 They have a lot of games in production and they bought some of the best studios out there. If anyone can eat up some losses it's Microsoft so let's see where they end up 12 months from now.

@Hindenburg Quality over quantity and don't get me started on value whats the use a pass with so many games where you have to rush to play them all. I have more then enough to play without a subscription.

@Flaming_Kaiser 'Quality over quantity' has never won any war. People like you and me want AAA games and right now Sony is the only studio of the big 3 that's making them, but we are nowhere near the biggest or most profitable demographic.

Let's see where Microsoft will end up in 12 months. They have the most potential for growth. Unless Sony knocks it out of the park with their live service games.

Well let’s see what Microsoft do, but so far two years they been a waste of space to me overall.
Already delayed 3 big games from 2022 to supposedly by end of June 2023 and we still have no sign of them or promotions etc.

Well deserved for Santa Monica, for they at least spent their time crafting a decent sequel and conclusion to the Norse story.

Loved this game, it was a lot of fun, I hope they make some more, I'd also like them to remake the originals in this style, they could cover all of the Greece saga in one game because the originals weren't that long, it would be nice to experience it from ascension through to god of war 3. I would love to see that happen.

No microtransactions no season/battle pass excellent story well told well acted massive sales....congrats to the people at santa Monica studios 👍
