The latest patch for God of War Ragnarok has now arrived on PS5 and PS4. While we've been pretty lucky and seen next to no issues with the game at all, there are naturally a few bugs affecting some players. Update 2.04 is out right now, and it's on the smaller side, but does fix a couple of nasty problems.
Weighing in at 221.4MB, it's hardly god-sized. First and foremost, it fixes a problem in which players weren't able to change the difficulty in the pause menu. That's not a fun time if you're looking to turn things down/up a notch. Secondly, another bug that would cause a game crash has been resolved.
There isn't much to them, but we've laid out the full patch notes below:
General
- Fixed a case where some players were unable to change the difficulty level in-game.
Stability and Performance
- Fixed a rare crash that could occur in the weapons menu.
Some players are still waiting for photo mode to land, which we know will be coming to the game in a future update. Hopefully, it's not too far away now. Are you enjoying your time with the game? Had zero problems with this game since launch, not even minor glitches. Kudos to Sony SMS for making such a polished game right out of the gate. Shame so many other devs don't do this nowadays and you often have to wait 3-6+ months to play the polished version of a game.
Finished the game yesterday and close to 100%, and my experience has been almost completely bug-free, minus three or four minor instances where simply reloading the game fixed it all. Props to them for delivering a quality product and improving it further.
I'm about 20 or so hours into it. I like it...but I'll just say I'm a bit surprised at all the 10's it has gotten. Perhaps I got wrapped up in the hype cycle too much but so far I think 2018 was a much better game overall.
Maybe I just haven't gotten to the best parts yet so I'll reserve final judgment.
Given this game is alleged to have come in hot, im genuinely amazed how polished it is. Massive well done to Sony SMS - its refreshing being able to play something that feels like a finished product. Enjoying it immensely so far
@Gaia093 I'm at 40h and only experienced 3 glitches, none of which even made me reload the game. One time Atreus wouldn't get out of a crawlspace (and I needed him to shoot an arrow on the other side) but going back through it and through it again fixed it. Another time the game started heavily dropping frames for no reason but going into the menu and back was enough for it to go away.
And then there was this:

I’ve been really unlucky by the sounds of it as I’ve been stuck in the reckoning quest at the gate and there’s no way back or forward so a total game breaker which this update still hasn’t fixed.
Nice to see that annoying difficulty changing bug has been sorted still waiting on New Game+ though 😅
Had one issue with the difficulty not changing and one instance where a plot related door wouldn't open what a restart fixed and that's it really. The Devs have an amazing job.
I swear the previous update before this one actually fixed that difficulty bug. Was able to clean up post game
I've had a few bugs along the way - I'm about ten hours in. One particularly frustrating one where I ran around for a good while thinking I must have missed something when in actual fact the dialogue to progress wasn't triggering. Reloaded the save and it was resolved. Other than that it has just been little things that haven't detracted from the experience.
Why buy on release date? You inevitably get patches over the first month or so that not only bug fix, but usually improve the experience.
51 hours in and no problems here. will probably finish the main story this weekend. Really enjoying the sidequests
@Korgon I suppose it depends where you are in the story as that is spectacular and the first game was basically a prologue to what's unfolding in Ragnarok. The side missions are so good they could be games on their own, one realm in particular is just outstanding in my opinion. Combat is improved upon and I'll not say much else as I won't spoil it for anyone and I've yet to finish the game but it's a 10/10 from me!
I had no bugs whatsoever ,and I thought you can always rely on a ps studios game to be bug free, then I fell through the world ,and I thought damn you Sony studios 😁
I’m 15hrs in. No bugs or glitches whatsoever as yet. What a game this is. Even better than 2018. Well, so far.
I also noticed that Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart was updated overnight. Wonder what those patch notes are?
@MightyDemon82
Nice I'm glad you like it so much! For me personally without spoiling anything there are very specific sections that I just don't find fun or engaging at all. It's hard to describe it without spoiling so I'll just leave it at that.
I also think the puzzle design is kind of bad (the raising/lowering cranes with a chain in particular are the worst as it has to be exactly where the game needs it to be in order for it to work, it feels really rigid to me). I do agree the combat is really good for the most part even if some of the encounter design also kind of falls flat every now and then.
I know it sounds like I hate it but I do still like it for the most part. Personally I'm sitting around a 7 if I had to stick a number on it.
@Korgon that might change once you finish the story but without knowing where you are I'm not so sure. I've spent a large chunk of time just exploring but I entered the final stretch last night!
Thank goodness for the difficulty fix! However, after getting my ass kicked by even basic enemies I eventually got good enough to make progress lol. Not sure if I'll still need it to finish but I sure am glad to have the option 😆
My only criticism is that there is no new game plus mode
The blurry box behind the on-screen dialogue in this game is driving me nuts!
I had one where there was a floating boat , one where the AI didn't follow me & just stood there & one when switching weapons in the menu kratos would be empty handed or holding the wrong weapon , nothing major though
@Hordak I'm pretty sure you can get rid of that blurring in the settings.
Loving it so far definitely deserving of all the praise it's getting. Had 2 or 3 glitches but a quick reload sorted them and HD a major crash today froze the ps5 completely, a rebbot of the system fixed that too so all is good.
In one of the Raider Forts in Midgard there is a scroll or artifact just stuck on top of snow with no circle prompt. Nothing I've done has made it prompt me to pick it up. I've come in and out of the land and reloaded the game. Glad I'm not a going for Platinum person.
