One Piece Odyssey is slowly but surely gearing up for departure, with the epic JRPG based on the prolific anime setting sail on 13th January. Today we got a new gameplay trailer, again largely concerned with Water 7, the fabled City of Water.
Veteran fans of the genre will no doubt expect to be running about, doing a bunch of odd jobs for townfolk in need, and there certainly seems to be a bunch of that. We see some simple side questing in action, and get a few snippets of combat gameplay, but what really stands out is the city of Water 7 itself, which just totally pops as a location. It's a trite observation, but we truly are entering an era in which games based on anime are beginning to look better than the source material itself.

gonna start off 2023 with what I hope to be is a good to great JRPG! can't wait for this game! Itll most likely take close to 100hrs to fully complete.
"Suuuppeerrr!!"
This game is looking like a treat for One Piece fans but I hope it's good enough to the point that JRPG enjoyers with no experience of the anime can have a quality time with this.
@GorosBat My hopes exactly. I tried watching the anime but bounced off for whatever reason. This reminds me of Dragon Quest XI, and I'm hoping it will be my way into this particular universe
I’ve been sleeping in this series but this looks very good. I was always put off by what I thought the combat was like (typical take on a thousand enemies with but mashing), after looking at this though I researched some of the other games and am probably going to get world seeker now, it’s on sale for less than £8 at the moment. Might then pick this up later.
On the locale - pretty but generic is how I would put it. Which is fine.
@GorosBat I hope this can introduce One Piece to even more fans (despite already having a huge fanbase). I’m leaning towards a Day 1 buy for this and I rarely purchase games early on.
Too many One Piece games make it difficult for newbies to come in and enjoy it off the bat. Im hoping this one nails it. A turn base One Piece console game is a dream I never thought could come true
CAN WE GET MUCH HIGHER
If this is based on Water 7, why are they wearing their time skip clothes?
@LifeGirl It's based on a new island unrelated to the source material but from what i gathered, the crew have to relive past moments to regain their powers so this is probably the explanation for their time skip attire.
I'll be waiting for a steep discount ($20 New). Also sad they still won't hire the Funimation/Crunchyroll english voice actors.
