A Plague Tale: Requiem was released last week to positive reviews, and publisher Focus Entertainment has announced that the rat-filled adventure has racked up more than one million players in the days since, and has released a hype-inducing accolades trailer to celebrate.
This might not surprise the Push Square community, who, according to our polling, largely aligned with the 8/10 we gave the title in our review. We were worried for a moment, considering all the hullabaloo concerning the game's 30fps framerate cap on PS5, but it seems that aspect wasn't a total dealbreaker after all. We wonder whether the success of Requiem's launch will make developer Asobo reconsider their stance on the possibility of a sequel...

Impossible. Didn't anyone tell them it's "literally unplayable"?
That's not good sell number... In fact, it's just number of players and we have to remember it's availiability in GP. In addition, it's on all device except Switch. Very pour stat in my opinion.
Isn't it free on gamepass? So that'll be helping the numbers.
Completed it two days ago on ps5 and i encountered no problems and didn't even notice the low frame rate, its even in my top 3 games of this year. I think some people just like to moan for the sake of it.
It doesnt matter to 1 million gamers thats a drop in the ocean mate its a awful game 🤣 not for me at all 60fps or nothing
@Kyevo8814 so what you're saying is you haven't played it but it's an awful game 😂
@UltimateOtaku91 maybe some people are blind amd crnt see the dogshit infront of them that how people step on it
@Andy22385 i dont wana play it never want to play will never play it doesnt appeal to me mate theres something about it that just screams cheap
An amazing game from start to funish. And I haven't encoutered any problems whatsoever
The story compensates this, but it is honestly not a pleasant thing to play it. It cant even maintain most of the time 30 fps... Eventhoug I like the game, i was reminded not to buy 30fps games and I will not make that mistake again. Plenty of other good games with skilled developers. Also, come on, the graphics are just the same as the first one. LAZY LAZY LAZY.
For those saying it's bad - the original was on Game Pass and PS Plus and only got to ~2 mil in a couple years, afaik.
This is not an AAA blockbuster but it's an improvement for the series. It's only been a week.
@GinSama33 I agree and isn't game pass over 20 million subscribers? And wasn't plague tale of their big fall releases on game pass?
Players? Not sales? That's not what I hoped for. Nevertheless, my GotY right there.
Games like this are the reason why I love Video Games. I really enjoyed every minute of it. I hope it gets the success it deserves to encourage other developers to make similar experiences, and work as a reminder that not every game has to be AAA for gamers to enjoy it.
People are more thirsty for good singleplayer games than to care about a game being 30 or 60 FPS. As long as the framerate is stable and the game looks pretty, it's not a big of an issue as people pretend it to be, unless we're talking fast paced reaction games like Call of Duty or Devil May Cry etc.
Played it on Gamepass on my Series X and apart from disliking Hugo and Amicia with a passion (specifically their endless OTT dialogue) I really enjoyed the game. Don't mind 30fps as long as it is locked - I quickly get used to it and then forget about it. What I can't abide is a fluctuating framerate or screen tearing - I really notice it then and it gives me a headache. Thankfully there was none of that with Requiem. Personally I'm done with the series now and hope they move onto a new IP for their next release.
I never see the difference between 30 and 60 fps. Not a deal breaker for me.
Great to see the game succeed. It's definitely at least my second favorite game of the year next to Elden Ring. I go back and forth on which one I like better. Glad to see the 30fps isn't turning too many people away from experiencing it as it really isn't THAT big of a deal for a game like this.
Congratulations Asobo and Focus! You earned it!
I tried it on PC through Gamepass for a few hours but it didn't really grab me and I can't say playing at 60fps plus made any real difference to the game. The main problem was that I couldn't care less about trying to protect that little kid and the gameplay was fine but I just wasn't motivated to continue
tbh PS I find that an irresponsible headline.
I appreciate you are here to entertain your audience and thus drive engagement and growth - but you should also lean a little in to developing the medium that enables that.
30 FPS is a clear backwards step that your own poll clearly indicated (no surprise) was contrary to the expectations of the vast majority of the medium's consumers.
It is a big deal and such a great game deserves recognition despite this severe limitation.
@Kyevo8814 I think your problem isn't the frame rate, you clearly have an agenda with the game itself or you're just trolling.
Why is the game dog s**t?
I am also playing this on GamePass.
Loving it. It's one of the prettiest games I have ever played. It's stunning.
I am done with this world now though. Can't wait to see what the studio does next.
@carlos82 I felt the same way - right through to the end but after completing a couple of chapters I found I was enjoying exploring, solving the puzzles and dealing with the rats and of course the combat/stealth mechanics. I skipped much of the dialogue when I could as I detested the main characters.
Played through it twice and got the Plat. Loved it! Want another game someday
I’ve been playing on PS5 and it can feel rough, screen tearing is an issue too. The game is great though and far from unplayable, I’m really enjoying it as I did the first and it’s a stunning looking game.
@GinSama33 what stat did you expect exactly for such a game?
@Kyevo8814 always nice to hear how terrible it is from people who haven't played it.
@jrt87 "For every person online who 'just wants to moan', there is another who boldly claims there is no issue whatsoever just to be contrarian and stir the pot"
Exactly. As always, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.
@Kyevo8814 Maybe some people are illiterate half-wits. Back under your bridge.
Excellent game but the first one was better.
@TJ81 some people are liitle keyboard warriors mate 🤣 and ur mums under the bridge told me tell u come home
@naruball can i not see a game a trailers and think nah thats not for me why do i need to play it to see if i like it???
@UltimateOtaku91 i dont like the look of it im sick of explaining to people just because iv not played it does not mean i can not have my own opinion about it it doesnt interest me at all poor frame rate and screen tearing make it amazing everyone says good job
I am a big fan of the first game, but I haven’t picked this one up yet. The main reason is not the frame rate issue (although I a little disappointed in the lack of performance options, yet realize that it’s not as big an issue for me as it is for many other people) rather it’s an issue of just having too many games on the backlog now and not enough time. And given the fact this is on GamePass, I subconsciously feel kind of silly for paying for it. I know that’s a stupid mindset, but I’m a little put off by being asked to subsidize the game on behalf of all the other players who are playing the game “for free” on the other console. It feels a little bit like paying taxes. Why am I paying when others get the same benefits and just found a loophole not to pay?
Anyways, I realize it’s a complex issue and the reported stats of “number of players playing” rather than “number of copies sold” is the new metric of success and has value in and of itself, but I guess I’m too old-school to be used to it yet. Regardless, I suspect it will drop onto PS+ at some future date and perhaps my backlog will be cleared to a better degree at that time and I’ll play it then. (And maybe even at 60 fps by then after patching! 😜)
GP with 25m subs. plus PS sales. id think 1mil was on the low side for a well anticipated and received game.
the 30fps is less of an issue in this
@Kyevo8814 a lot of games have problems, even horizon forbidden west had bugs and glitches but it was still a great game. Breath of the wild struggled as well yet is one of the best games to date.
And i agree you can look at a game and think nah that's not for me, but to call it dog s**t is a bit extreme. That should be reserved for games such as babylon's fall, cyberpunk 2077 and Fallout 76 etc.
so nearly 1 million people played it on gamepass
and few 1000s copies sold on pc/ps
way to go focus for giving gamers excuse not to buy this game
@UltimateOtaku91 sorry u took it as an extreme i just ment i dont like it when i said dog ***** dint mean was worse game of all time thats my bad dude and i dint like horizon either haha im 34 so maybe im just getting to old for this ***** will stick with my switch more enjoyment these days
Oh dear, that’s not a very strong number. That means that at most 1 in 25 people who had gamepass bothered to play this at all, even for one minute or via streaming. In reality its even lower, and actual sales are probably like 100-200k. I hope they got a really big cheque from MS.
@naruball Because like my VDD said the souscriber numbers on GP is 20M, that means less than 5% tried it on GP (this piece Tage will grow over time but still). What expect about real sell then ? 200K or 300K, it's very low.
That's not just a small game, he has a very good renowned thanks to several earning awards and positive players feedback from the first one.
I don't say other tant that and in fact I even bought the game. I am eager to play it as soon as I finished no more heroes III to make my on opinion
@ChrisDeku we have just make more or less the same analysis in a few interval of time ^^
Would be interesting to know how many sales it's worth whatever MS paid to have it Day 1 on Game Pass.
I haven't had much time to play, only getting to chapter 3 so far, but the game is a great continuation to the first so far. Glad it's doing well.
I'll be waiting for a 60 fps patch before I start playing, but glad for the game's success!
I will wait for a sale since it's already on Gamepass
Amazing game.
I did play it on PC for $1... I'll take whatever great game Microsoft wants to subsidize for me.
frankly i find it really odd that people like to see games fail
Amicia! Amicia! This is an 8/10 game, Amicia!
this game is frankly great if it had sony publishing it people would be shouting how great it is.
GOTY for me
I would recommend plague take innocence and plague tale requiem for fans of the last of us 1 and 2
I have gamepass but am waiting for a possible 60fps patch before playing it. On PC it is possible to run at +60 fps, which means that ps5 and XsX are already too weak?!
I finally got the platinum trophy. Had to start NG+ to master the prudence & opportunism skill. Now I can’t start the MW2 campaign and I’m ready for GOW Ragnarok next Tuesday.
I'm enjoying it greatly, it's one of the best of the year, I'm playing in my PS5 and no screen tearing and else, same with Gotham Knights, I even get 60fps sometimes. I think some people just forget to mention their tellies, because the telly is not able to support such games, there's tearing... I've got a Hisense U8G and it's brilliant with the last update I can even put the IMAX setting and the games look gorgeous. I used a certified HDM 2.1 cable connected to the right input and I can even play 120fps with no issues. At the end of the day, don't like it, don't play it; not your cup of tea, don't drink it...
@trev666 I'd argue that Amicia went through more anguish than Ellie.
