Bandai Namco will release Tales of Symphonia Remastered on 17th February 2023 for PS4, the publisher confirmed in a new trailer. Featuring clips of combat, cutscenes, and general gameplay, the footage is viewable above. The JRPG was first launched on Nintendo Gamecube in 2003 before being ported to PS2 (Japan only) and then PS3 in 2014 for its first remaster.
Despite this being the company's second stab at a remaster of Tales of Symphonia, it still appears the PS4 release will run at a 1080p resolution at 30 frames-per-second. To date, the only version of the classic JRPG to run at 60fps is the initial Gamecube release.

Still, this is another title to add to the ever-growing list of games slated for release in the first few months of 2023. It will see competition from PS4 ports of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, as well as big releases like Hogwarts Legacy and Like a Dragon: Ishin! Of course, not all these games will share the same target audience, but you're not going to be starved of something to play as we enter next year.
Alongside a standard digital version, a physical Chosen Edition is going up for pre-order on the Bandai Namco store. It contains a metal case, art prints, and stickers. Will you make time for Tales of Symphonia Remastered in February? Make the days last longer in the comments below.

The fact that this is capped at 30fps is laughable and sad. GCN reigns supreme.
Still, tempting though it would be to relive this game, I played so much of it at launch on Gamecube that I could never go back to it. The same applies to Tales of the Abyss and Vesperia; a shame, given how much fun those were back in the day.
Bit of a shame that they didn’t even bother to get the game running at 4k, 60fps. I’ll be getting it anyway though, I never did finish the game on PS3.
Shame theres no native ps5 version. I may have been tempted but my OSD (obsessive spine disorder) wont allow me to have blue spined boxes anymore and the 1080 30fps is deffo a joke.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I still buy PS4 games, but only if there is no PS5 release. I just hope the physical release is sub 40€ for this game.
Do publishers know there are 11 months other they can release titles in?
Over on Nintendolife a comment suggests they lost the source code for the GameCube build and only has the PS2 build that was in 30fps.
Not sure of the complexity how the engine and build to get it to 60fps would be, but seems like a quick and easy remaster to cash in on.
I still have my copy of Tales of Destiny for PS1 but would love a remaster though very very unlikely.
Hopefully they change the plat so it doesn’t require 5-6 playthroughs. Give me a good trophy campaign to go for, because this is one of the very few games I’ve completed multiple times on different platforms and would play again.
Why so long to bring it to consoles? It was on pc I think for a long time 😤😤
I am really interested on getting this. Wonder why it took so long to put it on consoles. I am perfectly fine with it being 30 FPS and 1080p because I grew up with 30 FPS for my whole life and really couldn't find a difference beyond smoothness of animations and my 4K TV has a really great upscaler chip which makes some 1080p games (Like some Lego games, Street Fighter V and Resident Evil Zero, REmake 1, 4, 5 and 6 remasters) and Blu-Rays (Like movies that have yet to go on 4K Blu-Ray or will never have a 4K Blu-Ray counterpart because it's not worth remastering or upscaling) look good enough.
I even forgot this was announced. They should have gone with Tales of the abyss. This is low effort.
Pathetic this is running at 30 fps with content missing
@Kidfunkadelic83 So what did you do with all of your old PS4 games, hide them away or sell/chuck them?
I still have mine and love seeing them displayed.
@KidBoruto i mainly sold them all on buddy. Only ones ive kept are the Yakuzas and the Witcher 3. I completed ths main ones i wanted to get through tho.
@Kidfunkadelic83 I don't sell any of my games, in case I wish to replay thru them again.
However I do understand wanting to sell them.
@KidBoruto i usually sell them after completing as i just dont have time to go thrpugh stuff a 2nd time. The backlog is already big enough 😂
@Kidfunkadelic83 I only replay thru a game nowadays if there's a new game plus trophy honestly.
