Not only is The Last of Us being adapted for a TV show early next year, but it's also getting an official board game from the makers of Escape the Dark Castle. Themeborne is known for creating black-and-white board games that prioritise "cooperative and easy-to-understand gameplay", and it's take on the world of The Last of Us will be no different. A more in-depth look at the board game will be revealed on 8th November 2022 when its Kickstarter campaign goes live.
An image of the board game with character cards for Joel and Ellie can be viewed below. There are also cards for the university, suburbs, and sewers.
Next week, fans will be given a "deeper look at the game" as well as the chance to guarantee themselves a Collector's Edition of the board game — you can view the artwork for that version in the lead image. Are you interested? Let us know in the comments below.

That's pretty cool, and not what I expected when I saw them tease it on Facebook. I have Escape the Dark Castle and it's a lot of fun. I have been waiting for the expansions to come back in stock.
I'm not really interested in this myself but it'll be a bit of a money spinner for Themeborne I expect!
I don't trust Kickstarters. Seen too many back fire.
I’m hoping to buy their Escape the Dark Castle game if it ever comes back in stock. I love the artwork in the game and it reminds me of the original Fighting Fantasy gamebooks, in the best possible way.
I’m not really interested in this but it looks cool and should be great for any fans of the game who also like board games.
Milk, Milk, Milk that cow until it dries
I think it's very scummy for the rightholders of a game IP that sells millions upon millions to turn to crowdfunding, as if they actually needed it to release their merchandise.
Why do you need Kickstarter for a popular modern IP?
Uhhh why the hell is a popular licensed IP being put thru Kickstarter? You telling me Sony and ND can't fund this and won't benefit?
That' looks like too many dice, it ain't 40k with about a million hit/wound/save rolls.
@Victor_Meldrew the black dice will represent enemy stats, so maybe a basic enemy will have 2 black dice that you roll to set him up. Then you roll your white player dice (normally just 1 per player) in rounds, and if you match an enemy stat, you take that dice away from it. If you don’t take away all the enemy dice in that round, the enemy takes his turn against you, then you start a new player round.
The black dice can also govern rolls you need from the white dice in scenarios.
It’s pretty easy to be honest, despite all the dice but it can make it a little too much luck based, especially when it comes to drawing item cards and setting up the scenario deck. With Castle there is strategy in knowing when to rest to gain HP between rounds, using and sharing items appropriately and making smart choices on certain scenarios.
Would be cool if the luck/strategy was a little more balanced in this one. Looking at the picture it does appear there are more features!
@GravyThief
I too would like to get hold of it, but it does indeed appear to be out of stock everywhere.
@Vacuumator their site says it will be in stock Q1 2023. A bit of a wait but at least it means you’ll get it at RRP and direct from them. They have the expansions on their site too. Just sign up to their mailing list and you’ll get an email when they’re back in stock.
@Uncharted2007 board games are a relatively safe bet on kickstarter, especially ones from companies who have a track record with them.
They usually cost a ton though.
Edit: there's a slay the spire one recently started too, which I'm really tempted by.
If it's officially endorsed by Sony, it shouldn't need a kickstarter.
