The huge Metroidvania game from developer Aurogon Shanghai, named Afterimage, has been handed a new PS5, PS4 release date of 25th April 2023. First thought to be out this year, the 2D title now adds to 2023's busy release schedule, releasing in between Horizon Forbidden West DLC Burning Shores and Dead Island 2. Although, the side-scrolling Metroidvania game is quite different from their offerings. Check out the new trailer above.
"Years after the cataclysm called 'The Razing' nearly brought an end to human civilization, mystic forces suddenly assaulted mankind’s remaining settlements," a press release reveals. "Seeking to investigate these attacks, an amnesiac girl named Renee bid farewell to her destroyed village and embarked on her journey to discover the truth, inexplicably setting into motion a series of events that will determine the fate of the new world."
This Metroidvania game is said to be both very long and packed full of content, with the developer claiming there are around 30 to 40 hours of game here that cover more than 20 areas. There are 30 bosses to beat, over 180 enemies, and six main weapon classes to kill them with. A lot of depth to sink your teeth into, it seems.

I backed this on Kickstarter as looked really good. Another game I'm looking forward to playing next year.
This looks amazing!! Officially keeping an eye on this one.
Damn looks tasty. And that runtime wow!
Looks fantastic.
Looks good, but not touching a made in China game. Maybe if it was from HK, while it still has that western influence.
Definite shades of Bloodstained for me. A game that was good, but not great imo. One to keep an eye on, but not my preferred style.
Looks brilliant. Definitely my cup of tea. I'll wait for reviews, though
Getting some, albeit lighter palettes, vibes of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night
