It seems the PSP version of Star Wars Battlefront II will be adapted for PS5 and PS4 and given out to PS Plus Premium members in the future — potentially as soon as this month's update. The classic shooter has appeared on the PS Store as a Classic title; you can view the listing here. The game has been updated with "up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters".
While it did release on PS2, it appears Sony has chosen to bring the PSP version over to modern consoles. "This title has been converted from the PSP version to the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles and provides newly added features," it says. "Consequently, there may be times where the title plays differently from the PSP version, or where some features may cause the title to not function properly."
Sony is set to announce the list of PS Plus Premium games — as well as PS Plus Extra titles — in a few weeks time, so it's likely Star Wars Battlefront II will be part of that. If not, it joins the likes of Syphon Filter 3, Dino Crisis, Ridge Racer 2, Resistance Retribution, and SoulCalibur: Broken Destiny waiting in the wings. They've all been leaked through either age ratings or early posts from Sony.
Would you return to the classic Star Wars Battlefront II game? Let us know in the comments below.

I never played these games back then so I'd definitely give it a go, fingers crossed others from that list appear soon and by others I mean Dino Crisis 😆
Trophy challenges?
..........why not just port the vastly superior PS2 version instead?!?!?
Cool! Let’s ramp these up now please Sony!
@Itachi2099 They have an emulator for PSP and not PS2, so… I guess that’s why!
Well, technically they do have a PS2 one as well… Y’know what, the only explanation is “Sony”.
Sony please put some decent PS1, PS2 or PSP games on the service. I'm getting excellent value out of Extra but Premium is an absolute frustration I'm stuck with for 2 years and want to escape at this point
@Itachi2099
The Xbox version was by far the best, but the PS2 is miles better than the PSP version. It’s at least feature complete.
Oh boy. So glad for these humble offerings...
This is absolutely baffling. The PSP version is good for the PSP but compared to every other version of the game it’s terrible. Sony consistently are just pooing the bed when it comes to Premium.
Can't wait to buy all the lootboxe.....oh wait
And if Ridge Racer 2 and Dino Crisis eventually end up on Premium they'll have no trophies. Yes these games didn't originally come with trophies I get that but you have to remember these games are now coming onto a modern console, on which every single game comes with trophies just like its been for the past 15 years since 2008. At least Resistance Retribution will have trophies?
Every month, we get a story like this and Premium members have so far been let down! Why would this month be any different? Let's be honest, Sony will probably dig up another PS3 Assassins Creed game or Syphon Filter instead or even, NOTHING AT ALL! Much easier, much cheaper.
@get2sammyb to be fair that PS2 emulator is pretty poor, I tried GTA Vice City on it recently and it was rough to say the least
Cool to see but why not the PS2 version do they really not care/remember the PS2 program they used to do for PS4 so they go the PSP version they clearly have a PS2 emulator.
Unless the PSP emulator or releases are easier or they want to push PSP more which is fine by me but why no Ridge Racers 2 on PSP rumours still and when?
Sure I own SW2 on PS2 and PSP so the differencs are minor enough for it to be alright. (Or Ridge Racers 2 on PSP so I'm not missing out). But it's cool to see like the other older SW games be brought up to modern platforms.
It's a fair version of the game from the PS2 version with the challenges as a pseudo campaign/additional content over the original campaign and missing levels like Felucia, Jabba's Palace and a few others I forget which but most content is there.
PS3 games make Deluxe users miss out even if benefits Premium users, PS2 offers enough but even if good or not the emulator they haven't bothered with that program in a while now so I assume we won't see any more. If it was licenses sure but if we get PSP/PS3 I have to question which ones or Sony was like 'they are barely selling well' then it being the licenses which to me I'd say 'well you didn't advertise them enough for it to be clear unlike Xbox backwards compatibility. It's as underadvertised as the Vita'. Because how many care or even heard the PS2 program was a thing many people I don't think knew regardless of PS Now and how underadvertised it was at times besides being a fewer regions support then PS+ is now. I never had PS Now access but do with PS+ Extra/Deluxe.
PSP works I think as the handheld has a lot of good games even besides the PS2 ports exist but aren't always the best versions.
Great game, but using the PSP version is maddening. I'm still irritated about getting the vastly inferior PSP version of Toy Story 3 as well.
@carlos82 Agreed!
@Itachi2099 looks like they went the cheaper route sadly
Did the PS2 version used to be on the PSN store in the PS3 days? I had the digital psp version, so hopefully I get this version free. I agree with the common sentiment that Sony is pooping the bed with premium. We will see for December.
I've already switched my recurrent premium tier to extra, bummed I couldn't get the discount to buy more extra tier subs and was stuck with premium. I think if you're unhappy with premium you should do the same.
Sony haven’t released a single new PS2 game to PS+ Premium yet, and have opted for PSP versions instead a couple of times now. Why? Probably because they haven’t bothered to update the PS2 emulator since it launched on PS4 and it is not only lacking in the added features (save states, rewind etc.) but for the most part it’s completely broken on PS5! Many of the PS2 games on Premium have game breaking bugs when played on PS5. Yet another reason Premium is bollocks. 😅
Excuse me while I complain like hell and act like my £2 extra this month should be getting me the earth … oh wait …
Hopefully the delay on these games are because they are implementing trophies, but they probably aren't. In reality it's just this Sony sucks and drags there feet on everything.
Yeah, being back BF2 on PS2 with online MP. This, I’ll pass. I’d rather hook up my PS2 than play the PSP version. After such a lack, they must realize most people would be disappointed with this.
@get2sammyb It still seems bizarre how despite marketing PS Deluxe/Premiun as a tier for PS1,PS2 & PSP games alongside streamable PS3 titles, the reality seems to have been a relatively poor ps1 emulation with promises of dual NTSC/PAL version choice abandoned for further titles, literally a couple of PS2 titles rebadged from the PS4 Classics range & no attempt to redo or improve that ps2 emulator which leaves a sporadic few psp "new" releases! 😕
The whole exercise seemed little more than a rebadge of PS Now which still remains unavailable for most psn regions
For a revamp meant to gain more subscribers, Sony's reluctance to expand it seems destined to let it wither on the vine & again claim legacy psn support isn't popular when the reality is they haven't really committed resources to it.😕
Unless it's a PSP exclusive why would anyone want the gimped version of a game?
@Totheteeth I wouldn't expect someone like you to know but I'll simplify it for you... under contract law, a legally binding promise by one party (Sony) to fulfil an obligation (provide PS2 games and/with classics catalogue) to another party in return for consideration and payment (by the subscribers of PS Premium).
A promise was made by Sony to offer PS2 games (as advertised) for a price that they deemed fair (£2 extra a month, on top of the 'extra' fee, as you point out) and that PS Premium Subscribers considered also fair for services offered. Unfortunately, many subscribers feel Sony is not performing in their obligation. Shrewdly, Sony were intentionally vague about what was included in the service.
A practice, I am fairly positive, Sony wouldn't like to happen to themselves. (i.e. vague contracts made by Microsoft with Sony about how long Call of Duty will be on PlayStation.)
I was excited until I saw it was the PSP version, hard pass.
