Resident Evil Village PSVR2 PlayStation VR 1

Resident Evil Village will be fully playable for PSVR2 from beginning to end on Sony’s next-gen headset’s launch day, 22nd February. And the best news of all: it’ll be free. To clarify, you will need to own a copy of Capcom’s survival horror on PS5, but regardless of whether you own the base version or the recently released Gold Edition, you’ll be able to download the PSVR2 functionality at no extra cost.

Capcom has gone to great lengths to repurpose Ethan Winters’ adventure for virtual reality, allowing you to physically interact with the release’s often grotesque Romanian backdrop. “The mode utilises the 4K HDR display, eye tracking, and 3D audio to make Resident Evil Village more realistic and intense than ever,” the press release reads. “Soak in the village’s richly detailed atmosphere in virtual reality, including the ornate chambers of Castle Dimitrescu, and prepare to feel truly dwarfed by the larger-than-life characters and creatures that lurk within.”

In addition to the sound and visuals, the controls have been completely overhauled to take advantage of the PSVR2 Sense Controllers’ unique capabilities, too: “Players can hold up their arms to guard against enemies that get too close for comfort. Weapons also feel tangibly more realistic in VR Mode with new gameplay elements that dial up the immersion, such as dual wielding and natural motion controls for reloading firearms and brandishing knives.”

To be honest, we’d expected to pay to play Resident Evil Village with PSVR2, because it looks like Capcom has gone to great lengths to realise this experience in virtual reality. We’re actually astounded that it’s launching as free DLC – but obviously in a positive way. We can’t wait to play on launch day!
