The imminent remake of the original and very excellent Dead Space launches later this week, on 27th January, and fanatical Unitoligists and other fans are no-doubt champing at the bit to start severing some limbs. Good news, then, as we now know when pre-loading this graphical powerhouse can begin; you can prepare for convergence on 25th January at 8 am PT / 4 pm GMT.
In addition, the recently revealed Trophy list has shed some light on a somewhat unexpected addition, the existence of an alternate ending. We won't spoil the ending of the original game here (except to note that it should be illegal to end a game with a jump scare), but its inclusion is quite fascinating. Could we see a divergence from the established order of things and a revitalised remake trilogy, one that retcons out the travesty that is Dead Space 3? Probably not, but one can dream, can't one?
Are you feeling that tingling deep in the essence of your being at the thought of returning to the Ishimura, or should we see someone about that? Will you be preloading the Dead Space remake and diving in the second the game goes live? Let us know in the comments section below.

I’m really excited for this, but at £70, I’ll wait for reviews before biting the bullet on a pre-order.
£70 remasters. Wow. What an exciting generation...
@lankieBD I think waiting for reviews is a good idea for any game, TBH.
@The_Pixel_King Agreed - if this was around £40 I'd bite - but will wait for a sale now.
Got it pre-ordered. The og ending wasn't anything special so, no skin off my nose
I have a weird sinking feeling that something's going to be off about this game.
@RainbowGazelle Remake. There's a difference.
I know by the end of this I am going to remind myself I played through 3 fully disappointed and downhearted that it was what it was because the first two games didn’t sell enough for EA to put any more faith and money in to continuing the horror/suspense theme.
Great game back in the days, but nothing calls me back with that 70 price tag. Same ol game just polished up doesn't make for such a price imo and no remakes ever should, but then this is EA lol
I think we'll see Dead Space 2 get a remake, then a new third entry that pretends the original one never happened if this is successful. And I would love it.
@BusyOlf Which ironically didn't work out, and killed the franchise. It would a perfect example of suits not understanding how art actually sells and that multiple successes that aren't as huge over time can be a much safer investment than changing something that should theoretically sell better.
Dead Space 3 was an example of being insanely risky for no reason in an attempt to be safe and not risky.
Color me curious about the alternate ending.
@Jaz007 agreed, they put all their faith in “focus groups” telling them what to make
@RainbowGazelle It's a remake, not a remaster.
I hope the alternate ending is a happy one I was bummed when she was dead although it was obvious for most of the game lol
Leaving the ending open for a new direction is a must. I would rather have a sequel to the remake that is an original game with a new direction, than a remake of Dead Space 2.
@EVIL-C @AdamNovice Okay, fair.
£70 remasters and remakes with shinier graphics. Wow. What a generation...
Everyone complaining about the price point obviously didn't shop around. Looking forward to this and hopefully it gets enough love to kick-start a new remake trilogy.
Also speaking about the jump scare ending, dead space creator did it again in Callisto Protocol.
@RainbowGazelle I don't so much mind remakes. There's plenty that are genuinely new to me and others on one hand, and the other is I like seeing what new technology can bring to old classics that I've enjoyed. It does wonders for some games, like Resident Evil or Shadow of the Colossus.
Remasters are more hit and miss. They're cheaper, so publishers like that.
Ultimately, I think there needs to be the right balance.
I hope the alternate ending ties into a future Dead Space 2 remake.
@EVIL-C I'm at least interested in Resi 4 because it looks to be doing a lot of new stuff. It's also an older game in the first place. When a remake is basically the same game again though, I don't see the point.
