Released in Japan just a few days ago, NIS America has confirmed that Disgaea 7 will be localised in the West later this year. The game's full title is Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless, and it's targeting an Autumn / Fall release window on both PS5 and PS4.
"The demonic realm of Hinomoto has fallen under a tyrannical regime, and it is up to the lazy warrior Fuji and bushido fangirl Pirilika to fight back while discovering the meaning of honour and redemption!" reads the official press release.
It then details a bunch of classic Disgaea gameplay mechanics, as well as a few new features: "Embark on an epic SRPG adventure stuffed to the brim with new features including Jumbification, Hell Mode, Item Reincarnation, new and improved auto-battle, and online ranked battles! You can even customize your own team with a robust roster of over 40-character classes."

@DigimonMonster ..."these days"?🤔😅
@DigimonMonster These days? Oda Nobunaga has been depicted as a demonic entity for a long time now. Hell, I think he called himself a Demon King or something similar, too.
Also, it's Disgaea, a game that takes place in Netherworlds, with demons. It's been like this since the very first entry in 2003.
@DigimonMonster You realize depictions of oni and yokai in Japanese art goes back hundreds of years, right?
@DigimonMonster As Japan is not significantly Judeo-Christian nor Muslim, and thusly bound to the whole monotheistic duality of good vs evil, Heaven vs Hell their concept of demons has an entirely different context and meaning for them, and their borrowing of said monotheistic dualistic concepts comes from the curiosity of an outsider looking into a foreign concept. They include "the demonic" but it's not a worshiping of evil in the way that, say, the Doom series associates the occult, but it's connected to their sort of "parallel world of demons and spirits" associated more with the Shintoist, Taoist, and Buddhist concepts of such things. And in that thinking demons are not necessarily always evil, many are neutral or good. The version of "Hell" and "demons" in games like this isn't necessarily the same as the 3 major Western religions concept of such things, and visual similarities are as viewed from the outside.
Hopefully it's better than 6.
All is forgiven NISA!!!
Disgaea is the one franchise that I would love to recommend, but that I can’t.
It’s so bonkers & demands such an insane amount of time & dedication I don’t even know how to describe it.
I guess it’s time to finally boot up Disgaea 6.
Jumbification you say?
...
I AM IN!
Nice, on the list.
Glad it has a multiplatform launch from Day 1 this time around
@DigimonMonster Tell me you know nothing about Japanese culture without telling me you know nothing about Japanese culture.
@Fight_Teza_Fight it's so cool when you get into one. A level uppers paradise. Does tend to get a bit glass cannon at the higher levels though, everyone just one shotting each other.
Got something to look forward to in the Fall then.
6 was fine but some elements in it weren't great. 5 I'm enjoying so far all the things it has that 6 removed but got a fair way to go.
The 3D models are fine enough and the engine will be the same as 6 with whatever the new features are that not sure what to make of yet.
The otaku or Gal or whatever case looking character shown has me eh.
Like I don't know about phones and this and that 'hip' focus with characters I'm not into them. Whether Anime or western media I just don't like it. If it's within reason fine if not I'm going to cringe and struggle to get through it I think even as someone fine with otaku characters usually and as an otaku.
It's Disgaea so I always enjoy the writing and strategy gameplay but still eh not sure about the character whether it's 'isekai' or whatever the case of this otaku character in the Netherworlds.
If it was an idol like one of the bosses in D2 then sure but this not sure (and I'm not into idols anyway). I won't not play a game due to a character but still I think it's odd until we get more info about them.
Loved the anime back in the day, but I am terrible at strategy games so I will be passing on this.
