Review tracking website Metacritic has posted a recap of 2022's highest rated PlayStation games. 40 titles are covered in total — starting at a Metacritic score of 80 — with critic reviews being taken into account.
Overall, it's a strong list with a lot of variety. We don't think 2022 was a particularly special year for PS5 and PS4 in terms of sheer volume — 2023 is shaping up to be borderline unprecedented in that regard — but there's no denying that last year had some truly standout experiences. Naturally, these games appear towards the top of the list.
Anyway, we've gathered the top 20 for you below, with their score in brackets.
20. AI: The Somnium Files - nirvanA Initiative (85)
19. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge (85)
18. Crusader Kings III (85)
17. Return to Monkey Island (85)
16. Tunic (86)
15. Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration (86)
14. Tactics Ogre: Reborn (86)
13. Cuphead: The Delicious Last Course (86)
12. Cult of the Lamb (86)
11. Inscryption (87)
10. Destiny 2: The Witch Queen (87)

Cult of the Lamb my favourite on there.
Rarely do I ever take Metacritic seriously these days especially the gamer scores giving 0 and then many have to give 10 to try balance out the zero troll scores
Played seven of them!
The Witcher 3 shouldn't have been at 94 in 2022. It is a great game and really sucks you in, but it seems most people give a pass to the clunky combat system and controls. While it might have been acceptable in 2015, in 2022 it really sticks out as a sore thumb and was painful to adjust to it after playing Ragnarok
So for Playstation they had Destiny 2, Uncharted, GT7, HFW, TLOU remake and God of war Ragnarok, even Elden Ring (own 14%) 😂
Damn that's impressive to have that many games tied to one publisher in the top 20 of one year. Hopefully can do the same this year but I doubt they will have many games planned for release for this year.
N.i.c.e. elden ring and god of war ragnarok are 2 of the best games ever made.word up son
Still need to play nirvana initiative but I heard the story is not as good as the 1st one which would suck as that's one of the biggest draws to a VN
@Judal27 I played Nirvana Initiative and I highly recommend it. I didn't have a big issue with the story and I thought it was much better than the first game.
@Leonhart it's been pretty low on my priority list especially since I need to get through a bunch of other VNs too but I'm glad to hear another positive word on it. Really hoping I end up liking it as much when I get to it
@Beerheadgamer82 Why not just read the critic's scores then?
@Rob3008 yh sometimes I do. Mostly get my reviews from some of my fav youtubers more than anything else as they seem to be far less biased and won't always gloss over games running terribly on release amongst many other things
@Beerheadgamer82 Though I pay attention to Metacritic, I think what's also worked for me for the past few years is watching gameplay videos on YouTube and making a decision. It's a great way.
@TheArt same here. Have to be careful though sometimes when watching full on gameplays especially the games that are story heavy
I never pay attention to metacritic I go by pedigree of the studio and gameplay videos if it's from an unknown quantity, a short trailer is usually enough!
@Beerheadgamer82 love the profile pic. That was my first album I bought!
@MightyDemon82 adore oasis. Been there for me musically all my young and adult life. There's an oasis song for every mood I'm in drunk, sober, mad, high, down, happy, unhappy, over the moon. To young to understand music properly in 94 so had to wait a couple years till 96 when got into them after they were all over the radio in 96
@Beerheadgamer82 I'm lucky as my dad has fantastic taste in music so I grew up listening to stuff from the 60's and 70's and then 80's stuff was always on in the background before I started discovering my own bands. Got to see Oasis live twice, once in Aberdeen and the other at T in the Park. Those were the days 😃
@MightyDemon82 at the then called Reebok Stadium (Bolton footy stadium) in 2000 my one and only time I got to see them live. Almost 18 at the time. My coach was cancelled so my Dad took a night off work and took me in his Nissan Bluebird instead. While the gig was kicking off my Dad had a few pints in the local pub near the stadium. I remember my Fred Perry jacket stinking of beer in the car trip back home, such a great time though. Later on in the 00s it got harder to find tickets for whatever reason
@Beerheadgamer82 your Dad sounds like one hell of a guy to have done that for you.
@MightyDemon82 yh he certainly was. He knew how much the band meant to me. Funny bloke too, made me laugh many a times
@Casco I don't know.... I like the combat and I still love this game. I am totally back into exploring this world all over again on the PS5.
As I was going through Novigrad again, I realized that CDPR may have already built one of the most lived in feeling cities well before they proclaimed it for Cyberpunk.
The re-release of Witcher 3 has been a great game to revisit on holiday break.
@dancingmind love it too, I’m actually replaying it and today I reached the Kaer Morhen fight. But there’s no denying the combat and gameplay is very outdated.
I've only played 1 game (God of War: Ragnarok) out of that entire list this year, but I did manage to platinum it at least.
