Japanese developers have always made a habit of teasing their plans at the start of a new year, and we dare say that Atlus is being the biggest tease of all. In a New Year's statement to Famitsu (as reported by Persona Central) the outfit behind the Persona series says that it's "preparing several unannounced titles" for the 12 months ahead. Interesting.
This is, of course, in addition to the PS4 ports of Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden, which release later this month on the 19th January.
If you'll remember, near the end of last year, Atlus actually went public with its regret in not being able to live up to expectations for Persona's 25th anniversary. Previously, the developer had promised a parade of announcements, but the reality is that we got notified about a bunch of merch, Japan-only events, and the aforementioned ports. It was all a bit of a bust.
We would assume that Atlus' partially scuppered plans will carry through into 2023. Hopefully it can get back on top of things and give us a good reason to be excited in the near future.
What would you like to see from Atlus in 2023? Try to predict some announcements in the comments section below.

Would be nice if we get SMT V ports to other platforms, I’ve been holding off buying the game for this reason.
I can’t wait to hear about Persona 5 soccer, Persona 5 Dancing in the Moonlight 2 Hypermix, Persona 5 dating sim called Person 5 ooops no dungeons. And then Persona 6… prologue only in Graphic Novel form
Project Re Fantasy trailer = ends up being a mobile game.
Shin Megami Tensei VI teaser coming out for the Switch and Wii U in 2028.
Persona 6 teaser image/reveal of color theme, coming soon = 2036.
I think towards the end of the year we will get a persona 6 announcement trailer, we will also get a SMT V playstation version since it was mentioned when the switch version got datamined. Wouldn't be surprised to see another spinoff title which combines the characters of 3, 4 and 5, either a new dancing game, fighting game or a new warriors style game.
And I also think they will make a mobile game similar to pokemon GO.
Kawakami spin-off or bust.
I am ready for P6.
I'd guess SMTV goes multiplatform and a bunch of games that are currently Switch/PS goes to Xbox like Persona 5 Strikers and 13 Sentinels.
As for games not currently playable on any current systems, probably some 3DS games ported given Atlus were one of the biggest 3rd party supporters of 3DS and the eshop's being shut down in March.
I'm ready to put 80 hours into P6 before tapping out probably halfway through. It is the way of things for me in these games.
@Jmerbaugh I was genuinely disappointed when I learned Persona Strikers wasn't a football game
The spin offs are never as good but I enjoy them.
A new shin megami tensei game would be great. I used to love digital devil saga and a couple of others from the PS2 generation. But obviously the big one everyone (including me) wants is persona 6. Although I don't know where they would go for a setting, after 5 took it to Tokyo
Please I just want to see something from project re fantasy already...
And hopefully this year will be the year I get to play smtv on ps
@Jmerbaugh don't forget Persona 5: Shopping With Your Mum, Persona 5 Ragnarok, Persona 5 Cocomelon Edition, Persona 5-2, Persona 5: DLC All Night
All I want is Persona 6 and ports of the Persona 1 and 2 Vita remakes.
I can't see them moving on from P5 just yet, I bet they'll announce a proper sequel for release later this year and confirm P6 is in development but no release date.
@Gamer_Guy I made it 50 hours and only finished The Tomb dungeon. Learned not even near done and tapped out.

"Project Re Fantasy trailer = ends up being a mobile game"
Oh! Ugh! Why would you put something so disturbing like that out there!? If that actually happens I am holding you responsible!🤣
But seriously I really hope Re Fantasy is finally revealed properly this year. That would be a great way to start my 2023!
@UltimateOtaku91
yeah that's what I'm thinking...they'll do a Persona Strikers with either an ensemble cast or maybe just one for each (one for 3 and one for 4).
I don't really want another Persona fighting game, but of course, wouldn't be surprised.
@RudeAnimat0r for reals. I played (most) of Persona (1) and thought it was good. tough but I can see the roots from where the Persona franchise is today (at that point, Persona 3 FES was what I was playing).
Hear good things about P2.
@Korgon hahaha yeah, like I said, it was a pessimistic take.
Maybe Re Fantasy will end up being a strategy RPG? What kind of game do you think it'll be?
@straw-hat-crew
I'm thinking it's going to be an action RPG if I had to guess. Reason being it sounded like Studio Zero was thinking about P5 being an action RPG at one point early in production if I remember correctly before ultimately deciding to go back to the traditional turn-based style. I figure maybe since it's a new IP they might want to give it another shot.
I'd be interested in a strategy RPG too though.
@Korgon I feel like 2022 has had alot of good to great strategy RPGs that perhaps Atlus will join in.
I just hope it's better than souls hackers 2. That game was downright trash.
Persona 6 Card Draw for Apple Arcade...
...And Switch.
P6 would be nice. I'll not hold my breath.
@Gaia093 hostess club mini-game from the Yakuza series (only played 0 & 7) but this time Queen Kawakami runs it. Instant top seller and sold out within minutes. It’ll be so hotly in-demand that scalpers will price it at $700 a copy- more than the PS5’s cost.
This is the idea Atlus & Sega have been waiting for
@straw-hat-crew at least you have One Piece Odyssey to pass your time until 2036 😉 Watch them say it’ll be in black & white just to ruin your well-thought out & overly optimistic theories
Wouldn't be surprised if we get Persona 6 a lot sooner than people think. P5 was a resounding success, selling far beyond what Sega was expecting, so I wouldn't be shocked if they were throwing more resources at getting the next game out to capitalize on that.
@GorosBat There was a datamine leak awhile back, all but confirming we'll eventually see the game ported to other consoles.
Hopefully that will be announced and released sometime in 2023.
If SMT V goes multiplat, I hope Atlus touches up in the game in the process. Give it the Nocturne Maniax edition treatment.
I could see them re-releasing the Digital Devil Saga games as well.
Maybe a Soul Hackers 2 Switch port?
Persona 6 would be the big one, but given how long the gap between 4 and 5 was, I'm not holding my breath.
merch now available worldwide. done.
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika Its not going to be called like a dragon 2. The next Like a Dragon is the 8th. The first one was on PS2.
I love the persona series. Didn't get into soul hackers 2. I have it. Didn't play much after the first bit. But I'm hoping for something better than that. Not sure if Atlus can do it, but I would prefer action based combat.
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika its going to be called Like a Dragon 8 in the west. They've announced it a couple months ago I think. They're now following the Japanese name and got rid of Yakuza in the name.
Persona 5 Royal Ultimate Edition for PS5?
@EaglyTheKawaiiShika I would blame the localisation team. They thought it would be cool to call it Yakuza because it's about Yakuza. Then change it years later. In Japan it's always had the same name. And it's also the name of the dev team.
