Announced last week when we were all in the throes of eating lots of rich food and watching Home Alone 2 (probably), the latest gaggle of PS Plus Essential monthly games is now available to claim on PS5 and PS4.
A trio of treats can now be added to your library and downloaded. As a reminder, here's what will be available during the month of January:
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (PS5, PS4)
- Axiom Verge 2 (PS5, PS4)
- Fallout 76 (PS4)
In a recent poll, the majority of voters said they're pretty happy with this month's lineup, with a lot of you understandably looking forward to playing Fallen Order the most. These games will be available from now until 7th February, so make sure to claim them while you can.
Will you be checking out January's PS Plus Essential games? Let us know in the comments section below.

Not overly fussed about Axiom Verge 2 - I left most C64 look-a-like games behind some decades ago!
Fallen Order is definitely getting a download/add to library. Similarly for Fallout 76 - tried a demo a few years back and it really was quite shockingly bad. Be interested to see if it's improved much with the Wastelanders expansion.
Welp, everything added smoothly. Axiom Verge 2 even started downloading right away for some reason, although I don't quite plan to try it here since it's long on eShop (where I still need to get and play the first one to boot). Might try Fallout 76 this weekend, but I'll be certainly taking Star Wars Jedi for a spin first.
I'm excited for those who haven't played Fallen Order. As a big Stars Wars nerd, that game hit the sweet spot at least until the remake of KOTOR comes out.
Fallout 76 will be my first download and see how close to fallout 4 it is. I did like the building mechanics. Lots and lots of turrets in my future.
Ill be downloading axiom verge 2 for the ps stars reward (smallest download) and thats it. I've enjoyed fallen order (twice) and im not wasting resources to download bethesda trash...
I waited a long time, didn't give in to buying FALLEN ORDER. now it is free!!!!!! Score....
I'll dip into Axiom Verge 2 since I already played Fallen Order on PS4 and PS5, and Fallout 76 doesn't interest me.
I might give Fallout 76 a try, just cos it's still a Fallout game, but don't expect me to expect to enjoy it
Literally just got Jedi Fallen Order for Christmas hahahaha ah well at least I'll have the physical copy.
I've played a little bit of Axiom Verge 1 a few years ago. It was a fun time, I'll give the sequel a shot.
Still never played Fallen Order and I really don't have a ton of interest in Fallout 76.
@MakersMark Me too!!! Resisted everytime Fallen Order was on sale. Looking forward to downloading it tonight.
I just play the story missions single player in fallout 76 and ive enjoyed it
I already had Fallen Order installed on my PS5. I've just deleted it and now installing the PS+ version just so that, when I do get around to playing it, I won't have to put the disc in.
Q: Is that too lazy?
There are a lot of little things that bugged me about Jedi: Fallen Order. I hated the maps, and a lot of the environment was just a pain. And while feeling under powered for a lot of the game fit the story, it wasn't really the power fantasy I always want when I play a Jedi game (I am a Force Unleashed guy myself!).
But....the last thirty minutes or so of that game are pure Star Wars gold. I adore the concluding chapter of that game. It is worth a play for that alone.
I need to go back and give Axiom Verge 2 another shot. I dunno it just wasn't hitting the same as the first for me. I know for a fact the color palette was part of it, which I know is stupid, but hey, that's like, uh, my opinion, man.
Axiom Verge was wonderful, heard mixed things about #2 so have held off till now, perfect time to give it a go.
Jedi: Fallen order is a wonderful game, with a few minor faults, especially if you are trying to 100% it. Hoping the sequel builds on that excellent foundation, fixes the combat, map and adds fast travel.
Hello, I got a question, not about this game, but right now it's a good example.
-With "PS plus essential" you can claim Fallout 76 and it's yours forever (until you subbed to any tier of PS Plus).
-If you already subbed to extra and you played it, you cannot claim the game/licence again (essential). So, if one day they remove it from extra tier you can't play the game.
It's a bit hard to explain, I hope you get what I mean. It can happen with any game what shows up in essential (and already in extra), so I would like to know if there is any solution for this situation? Thanks!
Oh s*** forgot about this. Now I've got to play Fallen Order and Witcher 3 at the same time 😁
And now imagine if they ever made a star wars game with in depth bounty contracts ala TW3 😱
Thanks for the reminder, I went ahead and claimed both Star Wars and Fallout.
for anyone like me who played + platinumed Fallen Order before there was a PS5 version, on EA play - you can get your platinum/all trophies to auto-pop, all you need to do is transfer your PS4 saves (this is easy enough, there's an option to do so when you first load the game up), load your completed save file, and then find a meditation circle and meditate at it. You might pop a few trophies along the way depending on what you do before you get to the meditation circle, but as soon as you meditate, the platinum should pop.
After this, you're free to replay the game without your inner completionist nagging you (unless your inner completionist is a real stickler for proper process, in which case God help you..)
Star wars looks incredible on ps5 well worth a replay
Added all 3 to library now ,downloaded star wars fallen order, not played it before ,early on in the game and its really enjoyable ,fantastic graphics on ps5 and if the rest of the game is as good or better than what I've played so far then this game will get a 9/10 from me ,didn't think it would be this enjoyable ,I'd read some reviews before though that mostly said it was really good and so it's proving to be and jedi survivor is out 17 March 2023 ,fallen order loads of fun so far the light sabre battles are really great fun
