CD Projekt RED has confirmed the physical release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition on PS5 is slated for next week: 26th January 2023. The UK, USA, and majority of Europe will find the RPG on store shelves from the date mentioned, while Australia and New Zealand get it a day later. South American countries receive it on 31st January, and then a Japanese release is set for 9th February. More details can be found through the link.
The PS5 version retails at $39.99. Expect the usual retailers like Amazon and GameStop to have listings going up very shortly since this is a quick turnaround.
The Witcher 3 on PS5 updates the RPG masterpiece with better visuals and frame rates, and bundles all its DLC together under one roof. Additionally, a new quest and items from the Netflix show have been added. The upgraded version isn't quite perfect, though, so a patch is expected to fix many issues soon.
"Over seven years after its original release, The Witcher 3 is still a masterpiece," we concluded in our The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Complete Edition PS5 review. "In its character writing and dialogue, it's yet to be surpassed, while its knack for telling so many engrossing stories is still seriously impressive. Although aspects of its gameplay haven't aged quite so well, there's no doubt that Complete Edition is the best version of a truly outstanding open world adventure."

Pointless release just buy the PS4 complete edition for cheap. It's a free upgrade.
All you're paying for is a PS5 logo on the box but money and fools are easily parted.
It costs $39.99 and listings for it are live on Amazon and Target.
can only assume that this is why the price of these games on digital for Xbox and PSN has increased - when they're full price it's the same price but they cost 2-3 times as much when they're on sale now.
On the other hand, in PC land (where the closest you can get to a physical game released in 2022 is a piece of card with a steam code on it - for major publishers anyway. I'm sure there are niche cases that specifically release on CD/DVD) the sale price is still a consistent £7 for the complete edition
@MordmitTotschlag Thanks, I've put that in the article.
I’m happy with my 10 USD digital copy I got a while back!
wow ps4 version is around 10. CDPR are a joke
Hardly pointless. It’s the best version of the game on disc. I doubt the free upgrade system will still be fully functional in 10 years time with the state of the ps3 store is anything to go by. Hoping Cyberpunk gets the same treatment once the dlc is out.
@TripleKing333 there's not much reason to believe that backwards compatibility isn't going to be an ongoing feature for Sony consoles going forward. The PS2 - PS3 - PS4 transitions were completely different, because all three of these had completely different architecture to each other (hence why "backwards compatible" PS3s have actual PS2 hardware in them). PS4 to PS5 on the other hand, both consoles are built on the same architecture, the main difference is the sheer power of the PS5 in comparison. Obviously that's not to say that they run exactly the same, just at different speeds - there are a few PS4 games that run badly on PS5, but the main thing here is that we're talking incredibly small numbers of games, and even then, they still run - it's just that there are clearly unintended glitches when a PS5 runs it because it was coded for PS4
In effect, consoles are more like PC's now than they've ever been, and it's hard to imagine them not sticking to this for future generations - it's just more beneficial for everyone this way.
Having said this, I can't predict the future. If for some reason it turns out to be in Sony's interest to go their own way again with some crazy architecture, obviously they're going to do it. Or maybe they'll block PS4 games from running on the PS6 in principle. Who knows. I don't see any reason for those things to happen, but what happens isn't always reasonable..
You guys are Joke. Why would any company create product at loss? Retailer needs a cut, tax man needs a cut and CDPR want to get little bit. If you dont need it then dont buy it. But this crying is so childish.
At digital alone platform taxes 30%, tax takes away 20% in most of World, so CDPR gets at best 50%. It is even less with physical copies.
And per usual physical copies will lose their value very quickly anyways
@REALAIS I can see precisely one comment in this comment section that your comment could reasonably be a reply to - no one else is complaining about the price of this, just mentioning that the PS4 version is cheaper... which it is? Maybe dial back on the drama a little bit...
@danlk1ng and it is meant for that comment and any coming after that in similar manner. I use drama to reply to another guy drama.
@danlk1ng
It’s not so much backwards compatibility, more the free upgrade system I have worries about. Specifically ps4 disc to ps5 digital upgrades.
Not implying there’s anything to worry about in the short term. I can just see it being a feature that would fail once the store starts to be sunset down the line. I mean it has issues already.
I would absolutely buy this just for the PS5 logo. I love physical game cases and would rather have this than the free upgrade, (which I got just by owning the PS4 version). However, if I find out I still need to download the entire game from a server I will riot. When the world blinks out and we have no access to the internet I want my physical games to work like any other physical media.
@Cyberpsycho they upped the price to €29.99 (on sale) for the Complete Edition in Europe after the PS5 update (very annoying because the upgrade was announced a day after the GOTY went off sale, which I had missed), and I've been seeing some retailers selling for €29.99-€34.99 instead. Not as bad a deal if you want, although the physical version is effectively DoA with the upcoming update with regards to being complete.
@stvevan not anymore. Last sale it went on was for $29.99, even the PS4 version (which are now sold in a bundle).
Why couldn't they wait a bit so the patch is included on disc?
Why this rush to release a buggy physical copy?
This aimed at people who don't know any better. Like parents or uncles buying a present for a teenager. Unwrapping a PS5 game may look better than a PS4 one, but if it were me getting it I would feel guilty.
On the other hand, CDPR is generous enough to give the update for free to PS4 version owners. So I suppose we shouldn't begrudge them that they fleece the masses who can't tell the difference.
Why oh why does it seem they've changed/messed around with the Xbox cover art again??? Seriously, stop changing things!!!
I initially disliked the PS5 cover template but it has really grown on me. Clean, clear and uncluttered.
@TripleKing333 Your fear is very valid! Part of the reason why I still collect PS5 versions, but I usually wait for them to be discounted to $20 New or cheaper.
I haven't bought a physical game in years.
Why did they change the cover art?
He looks like such a dork from afar... Geralt also looked way better in the previous cover
@TripleKing333 But you still need to download a big patch to combat all the issues. So why spend extra if they don't even release the fixed version.
