After nearly a full year on the market, Square Enix has finally confirmed it will be patching PS4 remaster Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition. The game has lied dormant since release in April 2022, with the base version featuring frame rate issues and input delay. These problems will now be addressed in an update said to house "a wide range of changes".
A post on the Square Enix Twitter account says there'll be "frame rate improvements, changes to the growth system for Pip, and fixes for other bugs". It then thanks the fans for their "thoughts and feedback" on the PS4 remaster.
These are all flaws we highlighted in our Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition PS4 review. While still calling it a "charming JRPG", we said it was a "dreadfully poor remaster" and handed it a 4/10 rating. Now Square Enix has revealed an update is finally on the way, it may be a version worth playing come the end of February. A Digital Foundry deep dive even found the PS4 version to run worse than what's available on PS1.
