Spooky Japanese horror Fatal Frame: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse is coming to PS5 and PS4 on 9th March, and we got a new story trailer that sets a suitably creepy tone.

If The Ring kept you up at night for weeks on end, and that was a positive experience for you, then Fatal Frame might just be up your alley. Heavily inspired by Japanese folklore, you will be menaced by eerie children and ghostly women, with nothing but a supernatural camera with which to defend yourself.

I like the one from last year, it wasn't the best but I had a positive experience, so I am looking forward to this.

@CieloAzure this one is considered by fans of the series to be either #1 or #2 in series ranking.

This took way too long to come westwards, excited that it's finally here!

@CieloAzure It seems that Maiden is considered the worst of the series (even though I liked it) and this one is the best or second best after Crimson Butterfly. I'm quite looking forward to it.

I suppose anyone who's into this series knows this already, but might be worth mentioning that on the UK / EU store this is called Project Zero which AFAIK is a closer translation of the original name. (EDIT: checked and not quite, JP name is just the kanji for "zero" with "zero" in katakana or roman script).

Does anyone know what the best way to start with the series is? The one I was looking at is Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water on PS4 but not sure if I need to play/watch plots from previous installments?

@extragood You can play them in any order. They are only loosely connected.

Maiden of the Black water is a good place to start.

IMAO Fatal Frame 2 is incredible. I think it should be taught in schools. But it's only been released on old systems, Xbox/PS2.

I'll probably still be going through Like a Dragon: Ishin when this comes out and I think the release date is also around the same time as Resident Evil 4, so it might have to wait a bit but this looks like one to consider purchasing down the line.

So glad this is coming out it costs a fortune on wii.
I have never forgot the second game on ps4 the rituals where very shocking.

I’m so excited for Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. I played all the others except this one as it never came to the West. It looks so creepy and gives me vibes from the first two games.
