We’re still not quite sure what to think of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a Destiny-esque third-person shooter that’s taken Batman: Arkham Knight developer Rocksteady almost a decade to make. One thing that’s sure not to settle well with fans is that it’ll require an Internet connection – regardless of whether you’re playing solo or multiplayer.

An FAQ page for the game reveals the tidbit, and also confirms crossplay across PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. You won’t need a PS Plus subscription to play single player, but you will if you want to play online in co-op modes. There’ll also be no loot boxes, but there will be in-game cosmetics you can purchase with real-money – as well as a Battle Pass.

So yeah, how are you feeling about the title now? Obviously, this isn’t the first game to require an Internet connection during single player sessions – but it’s rarely a popular decision, is it?

You know what the funny thing is? WB just made a killing off of Hogwarts Legacy...a single player offline game with no live service nonsense shoehorned into it. Oops!
It gets better and better 🤣🤣🤣 Marvel's Avengers 2.0 here we come.
Funny this game is happening when live services are falling apart and games like Elden Ring, God of War and WB's own Hogwarts are doing far better.
It’s really been a race to the bottom lately. Ubisoft, Microsoft, now WB…
Down with this kind of thing ! Atleast it looks crap anyway though lol
Knowing the situation with Discovery and WB and seeing the people's reaction sadly I predict this game will have a short life.
It’s official, as far as I care this game does not exist.
It looks like a free to play game
This is literally just Marvel's Avengers but with the Suicide Squad instead good f****** lord.
After this SOP I feel this game is going to flop because of the live service element. I know I went from being excited for this to absolutely nothing.
I just hope this game fails so hard that developers will never do these uninspired licenced abominations anymore.
lmao, dead on arrival game then. Seriously, why are game companies ok with this?
Oh Rocksteady, how far you've fallen....
It's like every game company decided 6 to 8 years ago that online-multiplayer-service games were the future. Well, the future is here and they were wrong. I kind of liked AVENGERS. However, I just wanted a new DC / Batman one player game and BOTH Arkham developers have failed me. Of course you know I'll buy this just like GOTHAM KNIGHTS. At least the traversal and gunplay look fun.
Somehow this makes the state of play even worse jaahahhahahahah
@jFug
What's an ubisoft?
And just like that I won't be getting this.
I guess i wont be getting it why the massive push for always online even with singleplayer. On the PS2 Resident Evil Outbreak a singleplayer with optional online OMG how hard is it to understand.
@Korgon I guess they just hate money.
Apparently WB has no idea what to do with it's DC properties! Hogwarts is flying off the shelves and instead of taking some inspiration from that they go full speed the opposite way.
Not a problem until it is, though if this also means that the game will eventually just become unplayable in any way if they pull the plug, that’s garbage.
This would be a bigger issue if the game as a whole didn’t look as underwhelming as it does.
wtf.
which donkey, where in the world thought making games single player modes require online connectivity, find that mofo and smash his head against every ***** who ever decided not to include solo offline modes in any game they made.
these game are not made for love of the medium and the players ,these games are made for profit and money.
simple fact.
So that's a big nono. This game will not be in my collection then.
Some companies never learn. Sigh...
Disappointing. I was actually interested in this at one point.
But live service elements in a game like this? Utterly stupid.
It's like they want to tick every box that players don't want from their superhero games
Live service - check
Always online - check
Battle Pass for cosmetics - check
Cast of characters we don't really care about - check
Damn shame, even more reason why I won't be playing the game until it's $20 New, or free with PS+.
Always online games are a perfect fit for subscription services. You can't feel cheated when it leaves the service when it no longer works anymore.
Who isn't online when playing these days? 🙄
The only problem is when the servers are taken down but they seem to have plenty content planned for now. Aside from that this is just an overreaction.
What a waste of time and resources, Rocksteady seem to have peaked with Arkham City as they have gone downwards since. Have devs not took note from the failings of the likes of Avengers and Babylons Fall? They could have done a single player (with possible co-op options) game but instead create this pure w***
I was hoping State of Play would have given us a date for Granblue Fantasy Relink and/or announced a demo for Final Fantasy XVI but instead gave us this *****. At least Baldurs Gate 3 was a good surprise and Tchia looks fun.
tbh i think we are seeing the death throes of these live service mega budget gambles. The market can only sustain a few and since it has taken so long to develop it's coming out late to the gold rush.
It's like they made this game in a fallout shelter with no connection to the outside world for the last six years.
Wasn't impressed with what they showed last night, and although this doesn't surprise me, it doesn't seem great the amount of games that are going down the route of an always online connection
Noping out of this one big time - the gameplay looks thoroughly uninspiring.
Yesterday felt like their opportunity to set our minds at ease and show us this isn't Avengers 2.0. Sadly they double down on this in every way.
I’m just not hyped about this. There is so much more they could have done with their Arkham Verse but this just doesn’t sit right. You’d really think with Batman being such a hot property at the moment WB/DC would want to capitalise on that. I just don’t get it
Why spend so much time promoting this industry standard live service rubbish?
Gotham Knights currently has 345 players on Steam, Avengers has 123. Those are games with recognizable players for the casual superhero fans. Other than Harley Quinn the general person won't care about this game. I expect it to be DOA. Rocksteady have spent 8 years making this trash while Hogwarts, Elden Ring and Ragnorok are selling stupid numbers showing that players don't want this live service/battle pass infested rubbish.
Players don't want this kind of games. Why the industrie seems so stubborn in making live $ervice games a thing? They're ruinning gaming little by little.
Cancelled my preorder after watching the SoP last night.
I only preordered as it was Kevin Conroy's last performance as Batman and I had faith in Rocksteady, but I was worried about it.
Last night's trailer, and now this, have confirmed those fears.
Such a shame
@Korgon I think the key component here is timing. The idea for the Suicide Squad game was likely conceived around 2016, when Rocksteady was wrapping up the season pass content for Arkham Knight, and back then this type of GaaS/Co-Op Super-Hero game seemed like a great idea for the suits at the gaming development studios. Failures like Marvel Avengers probably changed their minds, but not soon enough to completely rework the games coming down the pipeline (Suicide Squad & Gotham Knights) and I suspect a lot of rework was indeed put into those and that’s why they took so long to come out. With Hogwarts Legacy, the first rumors come from 2018, and it probably had more hindsight than the others.
@Nepp67 I believe it is WB's fault. They are the publisher and license holder and I can see executives looking at live service and saying that is what they want.
So I'll never buy this full price, I'll wait until it's $20 like the division 2 or until it's on psplus. Always online for single player game is stupid
Oooh this is shaping up to be a solid 5/10
@Korgon that's what happens when you release a polished single player experience, with no stupid microtransactions, hopefully they don't tarnish a great game with the ps4 and xbox versions ,I really don't see how they're gonna make it run smoothly without cutting things, and I bet the loading will be atrocious.
Speak with your wallets. This is why I love trying out some Indie games. They are made with love. Yes to make money too but there's a lot more love in them
Never been into gaas games to begin with, they rarely ever appeal to me although I've hardly ever experienced much of them either. One thing that did give me a tiny miniscule of hope of me actually playing this Suicide Squad is when they said it's fully playable in single player. With Sony saying for some time now about how they're going hard with gaas games it wouldn't be all that surprising if Sony has put a deal together for this SS game to be day one on Plus Essential or Plus Extra, unlikely but I also wouldn't be surprised if they have
Powered up my ancient SNES the other day. Turned it on and Suped Mario World was ready to start in less than a minute.
@Eagly is that a picture of Mwamba? Fellow XC3 enjoyer?
@tallythwack
Yeah I am really curious how that game will work on PS4 and especially Switch with the load times. I think just roaming outside the castle the PS4 will be able to run it well enough but inside the castle might get a bit nasty. It will be interesting to see that's for sure.
How are developers this stupid? Seriously, who makes these bone-headed decisions?
If my last shred of interest wasn't already lost long ago this would have done the trick.
Between this and the idiotic DC high-ups' decision to have all future games be part of DCEU/DCU's shared media universe this is not a good time to be a DC games fan.
@Korgon there's certain physics in the game i think all last gen formats will struggle with ,they will probably cut the enemy count down ,the amount thats going on sometimes in battles, I feel the ps4 will struggle to get 10fps , and the switch will probably explode, its a fantastic game ,I wish they would've chosen a different actor for the main character though ,he's atrocious, worse than Keanu in dracula id say ,shouldve given that gig to the guy that plays Sebastian, at least he's acceptable.
The exact same thing that happened with Gotham Knights is happening with this. Both waited so long to show gameplay and then they do and whether it's 30fps/not great graphics in GK or live service/clunky gameplay in Suicide Squad it's just a letdown.
@steizgr8 What a stain on such a fantastic no legendary voice actor last game. Every time I hear the man it makes me smile such a waste.
@AstraeaV Or Legend of Dragoon disc put it in my PS1 and play. 😢
Oh sometimes I think what a horrible mess it has become.
Why do game companies still think it's a good idea to lock single-player content behind an internet connection? Just makes zero sense to me. And if it's a game you actually enjoy playing, it's gonna suck when they shut down the servers. I know that sentence I just said was crazy. But I've actually enjoyed playing Steep and Riders Republic despite their flaws. Yet, you still have to play solo with an online connection. Parts of me are worried about the new EA Skate game since it's supposed to be free to play. Especially with the recent shutdown of most live service games.
The game looked generic as hell.
This and the battle pass (just for cosmetics but still a battle pass) tipped it into never play territory for me.
But i am sure there will be people who will enjoy this.
@Eagly I can't tell if you're memeing or being serious xD, either way nice to meet a fellow Xenoblade fan in the wild. We're a rare breed hahaha
This has been screwed up.
My interest in this game just dropped significantly.
@Eagly Dude Riku is so amazing!! I love him so much haha. Definitely have to 2nd pretty much every character you have listed there. Although I can't explain to you why, I absolutely ADORE Sena. I'm usually controlling her when running around, "girl with the gall" haha.
@Boucho11 like they could of slowed it down and built up the justice league with a solo game of superman or the flash or any of them. But nope we get a live service always online multiplayer centric fortnite wannabe with what seems like a quite serious gritty cut scenes with gameplay which is so out place it would look at home in fortnite.
Hard pass for me. And I was already not that interested in it from the beginning.
And I loved the batman games.
Getting Marvel's Avengers and Anthem vibes... 😬
@jFug Not just video games for WB. Their entire media and streaming services are on a downward spiral from dumb mistakes.
This game will be a disaster. Avengers at least had the allure of playing with your favorite heroes. Who wants to play as sharkman? Also Harley is so overused now that it's annoying without the joker.
Imagine if we could play with Batman, Superman, the flash, aquaman, etc. That would be way cooler. But some weirdo decided what people really wanted was to play the suicide squad villains in a shooter game. WTF! I am sorry that this will likely mark the end of a great studio whose talents were wasted on this.
Lol. Will not buy this nor anohter live service game in the foreseeable future. Kind of sad that Rocksteady have worked for so long on this game. What a waste. Give us anohter singel player action game instead.
This will be DOA I have no doubt that menu 🤢, but seriously, is there still this tought amoung developers that live service and co-op games are what most gamers want ?? (Sports games excluded)
@Korgon Well, Hogwarts on PC definitely requires an Internet due to laggy as ***** Denuvo DRM. Which is one of the reasons I picked it up on PS5
@Nemoy16 For me, that would be impossible.
@Eagly I'm terribly late, but well said my friend
