The Outer Worlds: Spacer's Choice Edition has been officially announced for PS5. This is actually being billed as a "remaster" of the 2019 role-playing title, featuring "higher resolution graphics, a dynamic weather system, overhauled lighting and environments, improved performance and load times, enhanced details on characters, and much more". It'll also boast an increased player level cap, which means that you'll be able to diversify your build a bit more.
And, specifically on Sony's current-gen console, this re-release will have full DualSense support, with gameplay taking advantage of the controller's haptic feedback and adaptative triggers. It'll run in 4K at 60 frames-per-second as well.
Spacer's Choice Edition launches next week, on the 7th March, and those who already own The Outer Worlds and its expansions, Murder on Eridanos and Peril on Gorgon, on PS4 will be able to upgrade at a reduced price of £7.99 / $9.99.

Paying for an upgrade.
It's not the best choice, it's Spacer's choice 🥲
Fingers crossed the update comes to gamepass.
Let me understand... At a reduced price? Really?! The same game just a few "upgrades" and we will need pay?
...really?!
why would it be a free upgrade?
@Sakisa I can't imagine that it wouldn't, but, I don't think they've said anything at all about XB on this, just Steam and PS, and it's on PS Blog. It, for now, is another hilarious case of Xbox making more PlayStation games than Xbox games while Playstation takes them to court for the risk of withholding games. Can't make this stuff up!
The game really does need the upgrade though. I happen to own it on XB, but not the expansions, so if it's not on GP I probably won't bother, but it really would help it.
OTOH, if it's not VR my interest went way out the window This and any Betehsda game is just so perfect for VR.
@trev666 @Vladspartan @Cherip-the-Ripper Just updated the article, the upgrade costs £7.99 / $9.99 if you already own the base game and the expansions.
I liked outer worlds i thought i was an enjoyable game
So happy I didn't eventually purchase this game. Literally don't see the point anymore since we won't be getting its sequel. Dodged a bullet
I loved the game despite kinda boring loot. Will begrudgingly play the sequel on Xbox if it comes to this...hope dies last even though it will pretty much 100% die xD
Meh. Pass. It was ok-ish.
Hmmm Minecraft dungeon on march ps+ essentiel, ghost wire Tokyo on extra and outer world finally get a native PS5 release...
Has a deal been made between the two giants regarding Activision acquisition??
I played the base game when I subbed to Game Pass for a bit and it was decidedly meh. I had no interest in the expansions by the time the credits rolled.
Say what you will about "Game Pass value" but I have yet to encounter a game on there that's a true banger. Nothing they offer makes me jealous. It's like Netflix. Sure, I may get a few surprises here and there every couple months. But I think I'd rather save my subscription fees and buy what I want. (Then again, I never buy anything full price anymore, so maybe if I was in the market for day one releases I'd feel differently.)
Perhaps a sequel to this game would get through Microsoft’s ‘game by game’ net that they mentioned when they purchased Bethesda!? I have yet to play the Outer Worlds, so this might be a good time to check it out!
I bought and enjoyed Outer Worlds and the DLC in some deep sale or other, but it was couple years ago and f*** if I'm going to pay again for a remaster. I found it pretty much a one and done game anyway, despite the illusion of choice stuff with the dialogue.
It's even more insulting for them to try and make out like it's some kind of bargain for existing owners with this 'reduced price' crap.
And whats the price if I don’t have the expansions? what a messy upgrade path as always.
@Cherip-the-Ripper
Well done-I heard your comment with the music and everything!
I enjoyed Outer Worlds-it was a good solid game. I absolutely plan to play the sequel once it hits Xbox.
But........is anyone actually crying out for a remaster of Outer Worlds? Which came out in 2019 and ran just fine? It is fine if people are, but this is the first I am hearing of it. I finished the game a long time ago, and I am certainly not paying additional money for better graphics and a dynamic weather system for a 2019 game.
This was on my to buy list, so I will eventually get the PS5 version. I don’t think a $10 upgrade should be a big deal. And it is dumb to skip this game just because the sequel might only be on Xbox.
@Wheatly I think it is indeed exclusive to Xbox if I remember rightly.
I enjoyed my time with this game when it came out but it was lacking in several areas (combat being one) so I think that'll hold me back from diving in again.
This already received a free 60 Hz patch 2 years ago, and I understand that the DLC is underwhelming, so I'll probably pass on this.
Is the upgrade only open to dlc owners? I have the base game but nothing else.
@Thumper yeah the dlc was nothing special. and once you've gone through the main game it's long enough and where the story finishes is the right point.
Hell, if it’s good it could warrant to go for a second playthrough. Can't quite put my finger on why but I really liked this game.
@Vladspartan The game is published by Private Division - which is owned by Take-Two.
That should tell you everything you need to know about why there is no free upgrade.
Apparently its £5 to upgrade if you have the DLC and £7.99 if you just own the base game.
I'm interested. I was thinking about getting it a while back, but decided against when I saw the PS5 port leaks. I'm glad I did. I wonder how much the PS5 version with DLC will be.
got this for my PC as a free promo when i built it 3 years ago lol... this game is meh
We’ve hit the point with remasters where I’ll only bite if it’s a game that I really want to experience again. I played through The Outer Worlds and really enjoyed it, but I’m perfectly happy with what I got out of it and don’t feel the need to replay it, even with shiny new bells and whistles. Definitely nice for anyone who didn’t take the plunge on the first go around though.
I know this will never happen, but I'd absolutely kill for a POE Deadfire PS5 remaster from them. The PS4 Load times in that game were God Awful and really hurt its potential reception from one of the best CRPGs ever made
@NEStalgia They don't own publishing rights to this so it doesn't matter whether they are going to court or not.
@pharos_haven Yeah, I totally forgot it was an outside publisher for this one, it makes a lot more sense now.
@Amnesiac I'm still trying to figure out the upgrade path for base game owners without DLC. I have the game but haven't played through it yet (have it on XB), so I'd rather play with the upgrades when I do. It seems like you might be able to get the $25 season pass (GP subscribers on XB get $2.50 off), and then pay the $5 for the upgrade making the upgrade reasonably priced (including a season pass I didn't already have.) But i'm not sure if it really will work out that way or not.
@Wheatly do you really belive that peoples purchase is genuinely affected by where the sequal might be published? Unless it's episodic content, I think very few people will give that any consideration at all.
I consider myself a pretty dedicated gamer, but my only consideration when Im buying a game is that it runs well and entertains me.Its only if it has been a great title that I may consider if there might be a sequel.
I'm pretty certain it will have minimal effect on sales of this, but I guess we'll see.
@NEStalgia Upgrade paths have really been a pebble in the shoe of this console generation. If it takes more than short sentence to explain to consumers how to buy your product, your marketing team isn’t doing a very good job.
What if I own the game but not the expansions? Would I still get that discount?
@Wheatly I do get you, thats perfectly rational! I'm just not sure that many others would give it that consideration, but I've been wrong many times before 😊
Im always a multiplatform gamer anyway, so I guess I'm spoilt in that it doesn't need to be a high consideration for me..
@Amnesiac So true! I can't think of any other time in history that you needed a flowchart to figure out the right way to purchase and deliver a product to avoid overpaying, or re-buying the same thing, or just getting the wrong version entirely.
@J_Warrior that's the scenario I was trying to solve above. If I'm not wrong, and I very well could be, the right path to get it at the best discount is to buy the season pass for the old version of the game, then buy the $5 upgrade. (Obviously you can't avoid buying the DLC since the new version comes only with the DLC, but that would be the way to pay the least and get your "discount" for owning the base game, and buying the 2 DLCs together in a season pass is cheaper than buying separately.)
...I think.....
@Bionic-Spencer They have already confirmed the 2nd is exclusive to Xbox and PC when they announced it at their showcase in 2021.
Why is the upgrade £5 on Xbox & £8 on playstation I know it's only £3 but is this the 'price parity' we can expect post acquisition blizzard
It was a decent game let down by horrendous load screens - hopefully this version will all but eradicate those.
To all the complainers about having to pay, at least we are being given an upgrade path!
They could have gone the Atlus/SEGA route and force everyone to pay full price (or wait for sales).
@ShogunRok do u know what's happening as its coming up at £39.99 for me on the ps store
@Ajfennell77 Hmmm, is it supposed to be an upgrade for you? Just in case you didn't know, you need to own the game and the two expansions already to get the upgrade.
Otherwise this might be some kind of error that Sony will have to fix. We've seen it before!
@ShogunRok I do own the base game and both dlc but it's coming up at full price..I'm hoping it's a sony fix ...
@Ajfennell77 Yeah it unfortunately sounds like a PlayStation Store issue. A lot of upgrades for other games in the past have had this same problem. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
@Bionic-Spencer this is not a Bethesda game, it is a Private Division decision and remaster, Obsidian did not work on It.
