It's hard to ascertain what is going on with Assassin's Creed Mirage, the eagerly anticipated return to a more "traditional" style of gameplay for the series, which has either been delayed to 2024 or could be out as soon as August depending on who you ask.
As spotted by Insider Gaming, dataminer ScriptLeaksR6 posited that Mirage (along with The Crew's Project Orlando) would be delayed into 2024 and that more information would be revealed at Ubisoft's next Forward event, which the publisher is ditching E3 in favour of this year.
In the hours following, Insider Gaming has since posted an update to the article that reads, in part, "Insider Gaming sources have suggested that Assassin’s Creed Mirage is still scheduled for August 2023".
So, now that we are firmly back to square one, when do you think this back-to-basics take on the Assassin's Creed formula will see the light of day? It does seem like a big blowout showing at Ubisoft Forward seems like a likely next step, but as to when we finally get our hands on this one, your guess is as good as ours. Feel free to speculate wildly in the comments section below.

As much as Ubi is collapsing, hopefully it sees the light of day.
The last three AC games sold more than ever before, so not sure who wants the series to return to its roots.
@scoobdoo The power/magic of internet bubbles 😄
@scoobdoo You’re joking, right?
I just hope Mirage has a smaller map, luke Syndicate.
@scoobdoo Same type of players whoare dissing Diablo 4 because it is not Diablo 2 1:1 copy. Old players, who had original AC games st their peak of gaming and now they have nostalgia about good old times.
At the end of day mega gaming companies are looking for more raw numbers and open world games sells better that niche games.
The Ezio games were drab and repetitive, as were the games that followed the trilogy up until Origins. Mind, it didn't get better after - Odyssey and Valhallah were different but not exactly great in my mind.
Given that the last 'old-style' game - Syndicate - came out seven-and-a-half years ago, I question whether people A. haven't just moved and B. whether the old formula will still hold up anno 2023.
Seem like "Back to the roots" might be an excuse to build a game on old tech.

"not sure who wants the series to return to its roots."
I'm one of them. Can't friggin wait for Mirage personally. I've come around lately on the RPG entries but I still love the the old formula too and it would be a shame to lose that style all together. Good news is if you're not interested in the old style you can just wait for Project Red to come out. Everyone wins!
I’m a big fan of Ubi and I’ve loved all AC games up to this point.. I could care less about returning to form.. if they do then great, if not, great.. I’m 102hrs into Valhalla and can’t get enough personally.. Bring it on Basim
I liked both types of AC so I don't mind getting another "old school" one for a change... although what they said about this game makes me think it's actually neither (which I'm also fine with).
I played almost all games in the series, and like both styles, action/adventure and action/RPG. Whatever comes, I will play it for sure. As i'm playing Origins right now, and will play Valhalla next (already platined Odyssey), my hands are full, so I can wait. But, I think Mirage comes still in 2023.
@scoobdoo
Valhalla sold worse than the older titles. Mainly because the reviews stated just how silly it was.
Also, even as much as I enjoyed the first two in the recent trilogy, I'd love them to bring back the AC2-Unity style games.
@scoobdoo the " masses complaining they have to much to do in the game" then cry about it been too short.
But in general the last 3 creeds have been huge scale games they probably take a lot to make and money and considering ubisoft current position I think they are afraid to take big risks
Well, I suppose we’ll find out in June, though all the delay talk with Ubisoft sort of paints them as a company that’s struggling to sustain where they were in previous generations. Really miss the good old days of being able to have reliable release dates.
@freddquadros Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if Mirage did get delayed to 2024.
As much as that would suck, it'd at least have more time to cook and be polished.
Especially if it's true that the game started development on an older gaming engine.
@KidBoruto Me neither. I too only roots for the better possible game. I don't mind delays, personally. There are lots of games to keep me occupied.
@freddquadros Aye agreed. My backlog keeps growing every year and it feels like I'm playing less games.
