Those handful of Final Fantasy fans lucky enough to lodge a pre-order for the limited edition physical version of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster on PS4 will be charged on 31st March in Europe and 5th April in North America – despite the bundle not having an official release date yet. Officially, the publisher’s still promising a Spring 2023 launch, and it’s safe to assume the collection must be close if it’s taking payments.
“We're not quite ready to reveal the launch date for the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster Series on console (currently listed tentatively for 31st May), but we can tell you it's fast approaching,” the publisher unorthodoxly admitted, as shared on ResetEra. “For our teams to process your order, we will need to start taking payment starting Wednesday, 5th April, 2023.”
This physical collector’s edition was announced and put on sale overnight late last year, and immediately sold out. Fortunately, the bundle – which features updated versions of Final Fantasy through to Final Fantasy VI – will also be available to download digitally on the PS Store, so you won’t miss out on the re-released classics entirely. Now we wait for the official release date…

I wish they went with the art design of Octopath traveler, I would be more tempted to try it then.
@UltimateOtaku91 I think if they did that they'd probably have to release each one individually and it'd take a lot longer.
I still think in theory they could still do that in time, and have these "original" versions exist alongside them. Might be a bit overkill, though.
I still don't get why they can't announce a date for this. The game is already out on PC, this is just a port. What uncertainty is there?
It feels like Square Enix are waiting for an event in April to reveal the release date. Could be a Direct (Nintendo's being very secretive about TotK even with the 10 minute gameplay yesterday), State of Play/Playstation Showcase (Sony's being very secretive about Burning Shores) or a FF/Square Enix event?
@TeapotBuddha Thanks for the spot, I've fixed that!
I'm still waiting for that release date myself, since I plan to buy the lot for Switch.
But... I am still hooked on 14, so I might not get around to these for many a month to follow.
Would have payed the 70$ for a physical copy if it released here in Europe, but digital, no way.
I just can’t get over how ugly the box art is, other Final Fantasy games have absolutely beautiful art on all of their steel book cases. I look at FF 10/10-2, 12, 15 are all amazing, it just doesn’t make sense why they give a collection of classic games a dog turd cover art and charge a premium on top of that. They could’ve done a collage type artwork culminating the original box art from all games into one spectacular piece of art. I know this is dumb to fret, but who the heck wants a bunch of pixelated characters with a white backdrop on a box? Look at Octopath Travelling 2’s physical copy and you’ll question what went wrong with this!
Am a huge Final Fantasy fan so this is way late. I have already bought and beaten all six games in my Steam Deck. I would get a PS4 retail version if it was widely available though...
@Grumblevolcano They likely are. They keep saying we’ll hear more about FF16 in April. Seems like there’s something happening in April, whether that’s a Sony Showcase or a Final Fantasy one. We’ve got enough this year for just a straight up Final Fantasy showcase. I’m cool with either and will preorder them all!
Knowing Square Enix they'll probably release it the week before Final Fantasy XVI. Spread your games out! Especially the massive JRPGs 🙃
I'm in the middle of a FF2 playthrough on my 3DS. But once these release on PS, I'm buying them in a heartbeat
Thought they took mine already…but will keep the cash handy just in case.
I pre ordered the Asian English version through Play-Asia. Hope it’ll arrive before my 3 week trip to france.
I will buy and play these with gusto. FFV here I come! I hope they don’t decide to release them two weeks before FF16, like they have been doing with their products all winter
Its totally rediculous they had such a little amount of physical games available maybe we can LRG if they put out a extra set of copies..... ☹️
@belmont Square Enix are such idiot look how many people want the physical release Ebay copies 300 plus for a bloody PS4 copy..
gosh, $75usd for ports that are based on mobile builds? i mean, just look at the UI and font used in the pixel remasters... it takes away from the original aesthetic. ff i, ff ii and ff iv on the psp were excellent "remasters" and should have been used as inspiration for the pixel remasters. not to mention, the psp remasters have more content that was cut from the pixel remasters. what a shame and missed opportunity. the only thing the pixel remasters have going for them are the updated soundtracks.
Before I give square any of my money, I'll need some assurances. Such as if any of these editions will include bonus dungeons from the psp or advance versions. So far the only one I'm interested in getting is III, because I've only ever played the blah 3D remake.
Maybe I missed it but have they confirmed trophies for each game? I'll take any reason to replay these.
@dustinprewitt fairly certain the extra content from previous releases (on psp, gba, ds etc) were scrapped with the pixel remasters.
If they put a general physical release out I'll be out to get it full price day one. If not I'm going to sulk and wait for a deep digital discount.
Do we know the price for the digital version yet? Can you buy games separately or just bundled together?
Strange that they're already charging, despite no public release date.
