Sony's not adhering to its usual schedule with these willy-nilly PS Plus announcements, but never mind. The platform holder has just unveiled one of the PS Plus Essential monthly games for April 2023, and it's an intriguing indie game making its debut on the subscription service.
Meet Your Maker was announced a little while back — it's a first-person shooter of two halves. Firstly, you can build dastardly deathtraps to try and trip up invading players looking to steal your treasure. Secondly, you can attempt to best the creations of other players, defying any obstacles in your path and escaping with your reward.
You'll get the gist from the above trailer, but there's also a bit more info on the PS Blog. It certainly looks like a novel idea, giving users tools to craft unique levels and then challenging them to beat the creations of others.
If you're subscribed to PS Plus Essential or higher, you'll be able to give this a whirl as part of April's monthly games lineup, which will become available on 4th April. Sony will announce the remainder of the monthly games in a couple of weeks.
Are you excited to try Meet Your Maker on PS5 and PS4? Tell us in the comments section below.

Hot dog! This is very nice news for me!
Interesting concept, but looks ugly and generic, both in terms of art style and gameplay.
So if I haven't understood the concept wrong, this is essentially Mario Maker meets Ghostrunner? Pretty cool if so, will give it a go.
sounds interesting in that you can be the builder and have people try and beat your creation, or you can be the person trying to grab the prize
Thanks for putting Essential in the title.👍 And FWIW I'm sorry you have to do this as Sony really should have just left it as PS+ then called the others PS Extra and PS Premium to cut down on any confusion w/ PS+E and PS+E.😝
Not my kind of game but it's nice to see a Day 1 included in PS+.
looks like discounted Ghost runner, pass
I think the concept for this game is actually really quite cool. I remember seeing it at a preview event a while back.
Less keen on the actual art/gameplay, though.
Seems like they're trying to add more Day One releases this year, though.
Shadow Warriors 3, Stray & now this Meet Your Maker all new games Day 1 release on PS+ is awesome bonus to go along with the 700+ games of PS1, PSP, PS2, PS3, PS4 & PS5, 4 hour game trials for new PS5 games without demos is awesome to check out and if buy the game you can move you save over so those 4 hours aren't wasted, the monthly games and other nice perks. I love PS+!
I think it looks good, really inventive idea and solid gameplay.
Dropping on plus makes great sense, if it gets a big enough player base you could end up with millions of different levels to try, like Mario maker 2 does. And with the devious minds of gamers out there, some of the challenges could be extreme.
I hope they have a plan to keep updating and adding more content/traps, would give it a long self life. I wonder if like mario maker 2 you have to have run your own design first to show it can be done?
@TaMpA_bLaCk don't forget tchia later this month.
Hoping to see some good premium titles announced tomorrow
Looks like a spiritual successor to/influenced by Tecmo's classic PS1 franchise, Deception.
I'm for it! It's a fun gameplay idea that hasn't been around for a while.
What about the Extra/Premium games for March? So far we've only heard part of the lineup without a release date, if I'm right?
After watching the trailer I now desperately want this game to be reskinned as a Zelda:BotW shrine builder game, because that's what it looks like. Fun!
When i saw PS Plus Essential Game (instead of games) for April i wasn't too thrilled! Anyway hope rest of games are more interesting, even if they are not first day releases
Sounds kinda like the player bases you can invade in MGS V right?
This 'Super Doom Maker' game looks right up my alley. It's sweet that we got it for +.
@Darude84
I think they will be announced tomorrow at 4:30 pm
Not gonna lie, I'm interested. Looks like I can use that fallout 4 building skill somewhere new haha
Hard pass.
Next!
@Serialsid
In the case of Mario Maker I think you meant to say Sadism of creators lol
Pass. Looks like another bland mp experience.
When does premium announce the next game
Not my cup of tea personally… but seems the perfect type of game for PS+ Essential. Reckon that’s a great scoop by Sony tbh!
@Ken_Kaniff I may be wrong but I don't think it's a MP game at all. You either create outposts by building, designing traps, putting guards in and doing their patrol routes.
Or you enter other people's outposts and try to get past their twisted minds to grab the treasure. According to the blog you can do that with a friend.
If they can make it so there's lots of options, designs, mods and updates it could be a really fun game. Least they are trying something different.
@Quintumply Have the premium and extra tier games for THIS month even been announced yet? 🤔
@Ken_Kaniff it is, reminds me of Fortnite, what a wasted month, these days I'm more looking forward to plus extra announcements than the essential ones
I want to like this but I’m just NOT feeling it.
@Serialsid It just looks like it could get boring really fast imo.
A more cartoony, fun version of this I’d be all over (Super Mario Maker in 3D), but as it stands I’ve almost zero interest. The voice-over didn’t help either
Perfect game for PS+ though!
These are the kinds of releases Sony should keep on aiming for, ambitious indie titles.
The game concept and style looks cool and reminds me of the fob's in metal gear solid V.
The voice-over is entertainingly silly. For the first 20 seconds I thought I was in my GTAO apartment watching TV. Since it's a Plus game I'll probably give it at least an hour or two some day.
Hard pass on this one, hopefully the other April PS Plus titles grab my attention.
@rjejr there's no confusion. It's fairly straightforward for the majority of us. 🙄
@huyi has building in it, must be LIkE fORtNitE...
Literally nothing remotely close to fortnite. Literally looks and plays like Ghostrunner.
@daveofduncan You do realize - "there's no confusion" - and - "for the majority of us" - are not the same thing right?
Fool me once... I've gotten to where I don't even hold out any hopes for these. If not for cloud/online, I wouldn't even bother with any tier of PS Plus.
