Ahead of its first public playtest this weekend at Evo Japan, a bunch of Tekken 8 press previews just dropped. Various gaming publications got to go hands on with the in-development fighter, and overall, things sound extremely promising. While these previews don't feature any completely new information, the actual gameplay impressions are super positive across the board. Tekken 8 apparently feels fantastic to play, thanks to its heavy emphasis on aggression.
The best part about these previews, though? We've just been given loads of in-game footage. Both IGN and GameSpot have published video previews that showcase actual matches, complete with health bars and everything else. This is easily our best look at Tekken 8 yet.
The footage features all of the characters that have been confirmed up until this point. That's Jin, Kazuya, Paul, Law, King, Lars, Nina, Jack-8, Jun, and Ling. Tekken fans will be able to pick out a number of recognisable attacks and combo strings, but it's safe to say that the new Heat system is really going to change how your average Tekken match flows.
Simply put, Tekken 8 is looking pretty damn good, and again, with its first public playtest coming up at the weekend, it likely won't be long until we have additional impressions from top players. It's an exciting time to be a fighting game fan, that's for sure.

Okay, I'm sold.
Really wondering how far along Tekken 8 is in terms of development. This playtest build seems surprisingly robust.
This looks fantastic. I’m hoping we see a release date this weekend. I’ve been holding off on preordering Street Fighter 6 because of Tekken 8. If they both launch this year, I gotta flip a coin and decide which fighter I’ll get… and hopefully MK12 gets an announcement too before I flip that coin. I like them all, but there can be only one… that I can afford, given that I’m a casual, before I wait on sales or play socially. Lol.
@somnambulance I don't think Tekken 8 will launch this year, despite all the marketing.
Bandai Namco is doing another Tekken World Tour with Tekken 7 this year into early 2024, so I'm thinking Tekken 8 will likely release after that.
Plus, the World Tour lets them market the hell out of Tekken 8 in the lead up to launch.
But... You never know. Stranger things have happened and Tekken 8 seems to be quite far along.
@ShogunRok It just feels like the game is almost here with these character trailers. I mean, we’re getting these at a faster rate than the SF6 ones and apparently MK12 is this year and we know nothing about it. I could see Bamco doing the world tour and releasing the game. Seems odd, but Tekken 7 has a dedicated competitive community and I can see them appealing to fans of both Tekken iterations. It’s having the cake and eating it too
@somnambulance I think Harada said recently tekken 8 will release next year so just buy sf6 which comes out in two months. Trust me you won’t regret buying sf6 I played the beta.
@ShogunRok Is there a way for small content creators to
request the same footage the likes of IGN and Max has gotten
ahold of? I know Bandai Namco has sent these
outlets the same footage, and even some media outlets with a small Youtube following. Just wondering if there is some official form or something like that. Thank you for your time.
@LightningIsTheWay I've seen the footage being spread around on YouTube, but I think it's probably a case of a bigger channel being sent the gameplay, and then smaller channels taking it and reposting it. I don't know who the original source is, though.
Usually, for official gameplay footage, a publisher will send it out to content creators and press outlets who attended an event — no forms involved or anything, and it'll be under embargo so that it doesn't leak early.
Outside of that, it's possible that smaller channels who didn't attend an event just have a PR contact at the publisher, and can request footage once the embargo has lifted.
But in Tekken's case, I think it's more likely that the footage has just been passed around and reposted.
Hopefully that helps!
@ShogunRok It does! I'm going to try to find a PR contact, it makes sense that outlets that were able to attend the event got access.
It was curious to me as one such outlet-no offense to them-only has about 80 subs, yet they still were granted footage because they were at the event. Telling me that Bamco wants everyone and their mother to know TEKKEN 8 is coming.
Anyway. Thanks again.
