It’s taken a bloody long time, but what’s this? Dead Island 2 looks good! A sprawling 14-minute video preview shows playable character Dani working her way through Los Angeles, messing up any and all kinds of reanimated flesh that gets in her way. The gameplay encounters look unbelievably entertaining, thanks to a rich and varied palette of weapons and combat styles.
We’re also really enjoying the vibrant art style, which obviously is appropriate for Los Angeles, but is seldom seen in gory, zombie games. We suppose the jury’s still out on the quest themselves – in this video, you’re basically repairing an electric gate for an ageing rockstar – but if the moment-to-moment action is as enjoyable at this looks, then maybe this will have been worth the wait all along.

Thank god this looks better than Dying Light 2, played that turd for 10mins and deleted it. Nothing like the first. Good luck to them.
This is just how I remember the original Dying Light, one of my favourite games of all time.
I am so excited for this one.
@EquiinoxGII I played it on ps premium trial and got bored.
I have to say - this is looking really good fun! This definately on my radar now...
First day purchase for me!
Looks like it'll be a lot of fun. This isn't really my cup of tea, but I must admit it looks pretty good.
Considering this game was in dev hell for so many years it actually looks like a lot of fun.
I think everyone is starting to get zombie fatigue but the art style and kills are keeping it a little fresh here. Definitely interested!!!
@Loamy fist bump x2
Looking really good.word up son
Really looking forward to this. Me and my brother have recently finished Dying Light 2, Gotham Knights and Saints Row, so we’re looking for another good co-op game.
I was so bored by the other games in this series. But God help me, this looks fun. Just when I thought I was out……..
It looks solid, but fffffffffff do I hate card-based systems. It's so stupid. Just give me a skill tree and let me feel as though I am growing stronger. Don't limit me with a handful of abilities tied to cards, of all things.
Why tf would cards my character is holding in an apocalypse determine what I can do as I fight for my life? It makes zero narrative sense and it diminishes the in-moment possibilities for the player.
When devs tout such systems as SOOO AWESOME and engaging, all I can think of is how severely limiting they are. That may work in a short form run-based title (or mode) like Back 4 Blood (though I heard players disliked it), but not for a narrative title that is tens of hours long.
It's akin to how Far Cry 6 tied player abilities to pieces of clothing. Instead of letting you do everything Far Cry games are known for, Ubisoft put needless bumpers on the experience making for a less engaging gameplay experience. Want to disarm opponents? Better have the watch on! No. Just let me learn to do that cool thing whenever I want.
My purchase of this game will rest almost solely on how obnoxious/limiting the cards prove over the course of the title. But I have very little hope it won't suck the joy out of it for me.
@MFTWrecks "Why tf would cards my character is holding in an apocalypse determine what I can do as I fight for my life? It makes zero narrative sense."
I don't know, maybe because it's a game?
@Nepp67 Yes. Hence the use of "narrative sense."
Looks more fun than DL2
Definitely waiting for a steep sale on this one. Don’t trust it a bit.
@get2sammyb You know i Think Sony Should Work With Both Techland And Deep Silver To Bring Both Dying Light 2 And Dead Island 2 To PSVR 2.
@Loamy Top man. All the best to your dad x
The Dead Island Definition Collection is on sale for $5. I had some good old fun with it back on PS3. Is the collection worth it for some stupid fun?
It’s everything I bought into Dying Light hoping that would be. Techland dropped a clanger going in that direction but ultimately it was my loss.
Damn this looks super fun. I hope it's really good cause now I'm excited!
Hopefully Dead Island 2 ends up being as enjoyable as the first game, I still have my concerns; mainly the tongue-and-cheek tone replacing the creepy atmospheric tone of the first game, but it's still a day one purchase and always has been.
I can't wait to play this.
This looks so average. Feels like they're stuck on ps3 times.
I am guessing LA breaks off due to massive Earthquakes? Otherwise, it wouldn't be a dead...island.
Gameplay looks fun, had to mute the video though.
@MKD88
If you liked them back then, then yes for five dollars do it.
@EquiinoxGII Yet this game still fails to look better than the first Dying Light and what's more just feels like a copy but without anything to make it unique.
Also millennial Marvel writing 🤮
Forspoken, Atomic Heart and now this. I hope all the recent criticism towards this writing and dialogue tells all developers going forward to stop this style of writing.
@Phornix so true. I personally haven't bought or played any of those games tbh, so can't comment on them, but let's face it, they aren't full of great stories from what I've read.
I'll definitely pick this game up for $20 New or free with PS+ in a few years. Looks fun but not $70 worth to me.
