A day before the launch of its expansion, Guerrilla Games has just released a new patch for Horizon Forbidden West on PS5. It's an important one, too, as you won't be able to start playing Burning Shores without it.
The patch brings the game to version 1.021.000, and it's pretty big, weighing in at roughly 14GB. The patch adds various accessibility features to the game, including an option to automatically pick up resources, thalassophobia relief (improves visibility underwater and lets Aloy stay underwater indefinitely regardless of progression), and the ability to enlarge subtitles. Here are the full patch notes:
- Introduced new accessibility features, including:
- Enlarging Subtitles
- Auto-Pickup
- Color Blindness settings
- Auto camera
- Navigation assist in Focus Mode
- Thalassophobia mode
- Additional accessibility features
- Support for Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores expansion has been added.
So, the important thing is to get this installed if you're planning to play the DLC once it goes live, but the patch also includes some nice extra options besides. Are you excited to play Horizon Forbidden West: Burning Shores? Glide into the comments section below.

Very cool features and not coming to PS4?
BTW anyone who can’t get the pre-load to work will likely not be able to play the DLC at all until it’s fixed
@neitan I would guess that the patch comes as well to the ps4 version with the accessibility options, probably a bit later. They’re focussing on the dlc launch for the moment, which is ps5 only.
Turned on my PS5 and this started downloading. 1.021.000 at 14.136GB. Larger subtitles are always welcome. Still need to find out about the dlc I pre-ordered, but I can wait 3 more minutes to check.
Edit: Don't agree with letting Aloy stay underwater, it's too relevant to the plot. Sure drowning sucks but I think it's important to the game.🤷
@rjejr it’s just an accessibility option that won’t be active with the standard setting. No need to turn it on.
Could you spot the improved clouds in the base game with the patch installed?
@Reeneman "Could you spot the improved clouds in the base game with the patch installed"
Interesting question. I know exactly what you are talking about but I'm not sure that feature is in the base game. I just jumped on my sunwing and flew as high as the game would let me and I'm still very far away from being in the clouds. I'm just outside the base, so middle of the map, but I don't recall ever being in the clouds. Not that I fly a lot, fast travel is still better.😁
So, I'm going out on a limb and saying only the LA area in BS will have the new clouds.
They FINALLY added auto pick-up. Hallelujah!
@Reeneman Oh, and thanks for the info on swimming, I read it as always on, which would kind of defeat the purpose of a big point in the game. They can throw in all the "options" they want - god mode, invisibility, unlimited ammo, etc, just not as the default. Some people may make use of that option but I'd still say wait, it's not necessary to progress. Maybe in NG+? I've never done "hard mode" my entire life, not starting now.😂
@Reeneman Surprised that there's been zero clarification from Guerrilla (or push from media outlets to get this question answered) about this. Presumably the features that make Burning Shores a PS5 exclusive should trickle down to the base game, right? It's not like the clouds are going to suddenly start being generated with a different method depending on which quest you have selected in the menu....
@rjejr many thanks for testing
@darthvirgin I agree. The lack of infos before release is still very very strange here.
Let’s see. I will try it out as well after midnight.
Thrilled for the dlc.
So many games on my pile of shame… uff working on it xD
@darthvirgin I hope i'm wrong but i have a feeling the DLC takes place in its own map with its own features so stuff like the fancy clouds only exist in that map. Guess i will find out in 7 hours.
Automatic pick up should be standard. Very happy to see it!
@Thenewguy ah nothings better than spamming a button to pick things up cough couch Fallout cough but as an RPGer I’ve grown accustomed to it I guess.. nice implementation of that here.. AC: Valhalla kinda does this at some point
Burning Shores, Dead Island 2 this week and Jedi Survivor next week AND my LG OLED monitor just arrived. Oh yeah, a wonderful time ahead on PS5
So the Thalassophobia, will that just remove water altogether?
@SirMarshmallow uff Jedi Survivor… true! Arrgggh want to play it - now!
Everything is ready to go. Ended up playing for an hour just to get myself a new Sunwing and ended up doing several battles. Can't wait to get stuck into Burning Shores at the weekend!
@Reeneman bruh me too. Not that long to go, we got this
Anyone know what time the DLC launches?
Fair play if Sony don't want to add the actual environments to the PS4 version but the new equipment/outfits would have been fine as a free update, maybe expanding on thr champions medals NG+ feature.
@everynowandben It's midnight here in the UK, so I'm guessing it will be midnight in whichever region of the world you're in.
CANCEL YOUR PREORDER and re-purchase if you cannot preload. This worked for me, I am all set to go for 9 PM PST. Playstation support chat, you have the right to cancel until the dlc is live in your region
@everynowandben "Anyone know what time the DLC launches?"
If you preorder(ed) the dlc and have the game installed on PS5 and install the newest 14GB update - ok that's a lot of ifs, sorry - then when you start up the game there will be a triangle button on the home screen. Press triangle on your controller. You should get a screen w/ the time remaining until you can play it, which I believe is midnight tonight 4/17 local time.
You can also click on the "time remaining" box/bar and it should bring you to a screen asking if you want it auto downloaded to you rPS5. Mine was supposed to happen yesterday but didn't. 😝
Thanks for sharing the latest patch notes!
