Aside from a handful of State of Plays, we’ve barely heard a peep from Sony in almost two years. We know games like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Marvel’s Wolverine are in development, but aside from vague comments about The Last of Us’ standalone multiplayer spin-off, we have no idea what the rest of its first-party teams are up to. In fact, the roadmap for PS5 is largely non-existent outside of third-party stuff. (And that’s without even touching on PSVR2!)
We’re long overdue some kind of presentation from the platform holder, then, and it looks like it may not be far away. Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb, who’s notorious for largely reliable insider information, claims that there’ll be a proper PlayStation Showcase prior to Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest, which is currently pegged for 8th June. Obviously, that leaves a pretty large window for when the event could take place, but it’s good to have a rough idea.
Grubb has previously mentioned that the Japanese giant has been “saving the good stuff” for this show, and given how uncharacteristically quiet the company’s been, expectations will be sky-high. There’s chatter about this setting up “phase two” for the PS5’s release schedule, so it should be much bigger than your average State of Play. Of course, none of this is officially confirmed by Sony, so temper your expectations until it is.
Personally, we reckon the firm needs a pretty big presentation: it managed to get away without one in 2022, but we don’t think it can coast through another 12 months without some proper, meaningful updates. What would you like to see from a hypothetical PlayStation Showcase? Are there any games in particular that you’re dying to see revealed? Lay it all out in the comments section below.

Expectations are going to be through the roof for this, not sure anything they show could feasibly live up to that.
Nevertheless, it'd be nice to see some new games from Sony for once!
@get2sammyb I hope they're painfully aware of said expectations. I don't think they'll exceed them but I sure hope they will meet them.
@dschons They must be. They must know that going on hiatus for basically two years has people's expectations through the roof.
@get2sammyb The problem is some people are expecting announcements on the same level as "We've acquired Kadokawa and Square-Enix somehow". It's not even about the games anymore. It's about the impact an announcement has or the structure of the show.
I'd like a live showcase like playstation experience
@Shepherd_Tallon Well I think those expectations are a bit silly. My expectation is new first-party games. I think we'd need to see two or three outside of Spider-Man/Wolverine to provide a proper roadmap for the system.
I disagree, I think expectations are at an all time low for Sony PS showcases at this point. We know that a large part of what Sony has coming are live service titles. Simply knowing what those titles are, doesn't make them any less lame, late, and predatory.
Sony can't live off a few marvel games in the pipeline alone. Unless they have some non iterative major announcements hidden. yet considering how Sony played the generational transition, I highly doubt it. I suspect anything meaningful or new, if there is anything beyond the gambling games, is years off at this point.
Im looking forward to some third party titles coming in the near and further future for sure. Not a damn thing from Sony studios though, and honestly that's largely Sonys fault and the result of years of non communication, iterative uninspired sequels, and corporate shareholder driven nonsense.
I hope they do have something beyond the live service/monetization centric garbage and spider man/wolverine. If not it's going to be a dry few years on the Sony first party front.
They really have to know how high the expectations are. Show some new games nobody is expecting AND what we are kind of expecting (the Last of Us multiplayer, Wolverine, FFVII rebirth , MGS remake etc)
@get2sammyb I’m definitely holding them to my high expectations since they’ve been so quite for so long. The silence annoys the hell out of me.
@get2sammyb Indeed.
I'd be expecting to come away from it with two games at least to be excited about. I'm usually happy enough with that.
@KundaliniRising333 Well that's a pessimistic outlook!
I just only care with upcoming kids games for PS4 / PS5.
@get2sammyb perhaps, but one based on past trends from Sony.
I mean let's be real here we do this every time rumors of or an announced showcase is on the horizon, and nearly every one for two years straight has been a lazy 20-30 min marketing commitment for something almost nobody wants. Or in the case of last year no big showcase happened at all. Not even ones to promote some of their most major releases.
I doubt I am the only one who feels Sonys fan relations and overall strategy are at one of the lowest points in the entire history of Playstation .
Ah... you sly devil. The Sonic game was true but this is the April Fools joke. Sony doesn't showcase their games anymore.
I am a little bit sad of how Sony treats its fanbase in terms of communications. They stay quiet, shadow-drop different things, do not communicate with the players. It is understandable that overhype negatively affects both players' expectations and sales / reviews, that is why companies today mostly prefer not to announce any games until they are at final development stages or at least have something to show. But keeping loyal players in the dark is even worse, at least I think so.
I wonder if PS5 pro is part of phase 2. Not that I would buy the next one, as I didn't with ps4 and it worked out fine, but and interesting way to phrase it.
Sony’s had showcases that manage those expectations. Back in the E3 and PS experience live conferences.
If it has those again it can meet expectations. If they don’t, these pre-recorded showcases will never live up to hype.
Sony has created an uphill battle for itself against fan expectations. At this stage of the game, they need to deliver a barnstormer of a showcase; all killer, no filler. Anything less than hitting those lofty expectations will be a great disappointment to many, including me. I firmly believe PlayStation has the games and surprises to pull it off, but something like the dreary September 2021 showcase will not cut it.
As for what I want to see at this showcase: I mainly want to see what Team Asobi, Bluepoint, and Pixelopus are working on. If Team Asobi announced a PSVR2-exclusive Astro Bot game, that would give me a strong desire to buy the headset. But, if they announced a large-scale non-VR title (especially if it's a follow-up to Astro's Playroom), that alone would make the showcase for me.
Well we know there will be some big third party games revealed/Shown at PlayStation's show as there always is, so I'd expect some big timed exclusive content on show such as MGS Remake, Silent Hill remake, Final Fantasy 16 gameplay presentation, Final Fantasy 7 Remake part 2 release date, Stellar Blade update, some Street Fighter 6 gameplay, KOTR Remake trailer, Honkai Star Rail trailer and release date, Resident Evil 4 Remake DLC trailer, Avatar Frontiers of Pandora Reveal (then a proper presentation at ubisofts show) and hopefully Little Devil Inside gets a release date and playstation plus extra day one drop.
Then for first party I'd expect a small segment on what's to come to PSVR2, TLOU Factions gameplay presentation, Spiderman 2 presentation, a small look at Wolverine and story trailer, CGi trailer for Naughty Dog's Sci fi game, Horizon Multiplayer game reveal, a look at what's next from Bunjie, a hardware revision announcement such as the add on disc drive.
Well that's my realistic expectations anyway.
Unrealistic hopes are Ghost of Tsushima 2 Reveal, Jak and Daxter Remake and our first look at Dragons Dogma 2.
Are there any games in particular that you’re dying to see revealed?
Dying to? No.
Expecting to? Oh, yes!
And not only games, but next console news too, Slim and/or Pro.
They better come prepared with a ton of good content, after all of those disappointingly lackluster State of Play(s)...
no offense but it feels like no matter what they do , people aren't happy. they announce games they are working on but people complain why show them off too early when they are so far out. but then they'll also not be happy and complain that sony isn't showing anything at all. i'd rather they just keep working on the games and show them off when they are ready to show them off. people don't like surprises any more? i'm guessing maybe the new corey san monica game , hopefully we can see what bluepoint / sony bend/ sucker punch / team asobi/ sony london have been working on, what haven / deviation is working on , and the rumored uncharted game from the san deigo team ?
‘All’ I want is:
I can’t even think of anything else.
We probably won’t get anything new from Santa Monica for a few years and I couldn’t be less interested in what Naughty Dog are doing (unless it’s unrelated to TLoU or Uncharted).
Who else is there?
Guerrilla - probably making Horizon games for the next 10 years.
We already know what Insomniac are working on, which is fine.
Media Molecule - still living in a dreamworld.
I’m interested to know what Bluepoint games are working on - their track record has been very good.
Sony Bend are working on something with MP elements so that’s already a write-off for me.
Hopefully a full blown vr game using one of the ips or a brand new ip..just a big budget vr exclusive
@ItsBritneyB_tch the rumor is uncharted is being made by the new san deigo team, also Corey didn't work on the new god of war , he's been making his own game so we don't really know how far along it is. i'm still holding on hope for a days gone sequel , with some mp aspect mode added in ( a horde type mp mode would be fun imo).
This feels like a particularly cruel April Fool's prank announcement.
I think it is plausible since there will be a Xbox showcase in June 11. Now that the Activision deal is almost certain, Sony needs any movement to address the lack of information about future PS5 games. In addition, Sony needs to promote Spiderman 2 that will release this year and we know nothing about gameplay, story and art style. I'm looking forward to this event.
@Anti-Matter yes we know, this is the 137th comment you make about only caring about child games, is fine if you like those kind of games i just think its kind of strange that you feel the need to say that on every comment you make.
I'm expecting very little at all myself. Jim's more interested in giving the Activision blizzard deal the finger ( which is going to bite him so so hard in the ass) and porting "exclusives" to pc. Where are the AAA ps5 games really? Like no excuse!? Where are they? Ps4 is dead now, we need the big games and to be honest it's looking like a over hype already. Sony is lacking with the actual "exclusives" (and yes Microsoft is too) and exclusive as in PLAYSTATION console only not oh well let's putting it on the pc soon, that's just my opinion anyway. We need actual IPs Jim!!! Wheres resistance and killzone to combat that huge middle finger you've just give Microsoft or actually thinking about what fps Sony has??? Expecting a few indies and a few sub par psvr2 games at best.
@get2sammyb nicee i see the new premium badge is already showing on profiles
Taking this outside of the realm that Sony will have a showcase, what I would like to see sometime this year is...
I seriously question if half the above will actually release on PS5 or if dev time has increased so dramatically that PS5 will be skipped entirely.
Expecting a couple big reveals none are expecting. And nah I don't mean things like TLoU2 multiplayer, Ghost of Tsushima 2, Spiderman2 or Wolverine gameplay as we are expecting those at some point anyways, I'm on about from outta nowhere like where did that come from. Expecting nothing but the best from the best. I can never be negative leading up to these PS showcases. I like to be hopeful with excitement leading up to it. Still excited for new games today at 40 as I was at 14 with fixed on braces
factions, sm2, gaas titles.
stellar blade release date.
wont be what anyone is expecting
I'm still waiting for the WW/TP HD collections that Grubb has predicted multiple times.
The show better blow my socks off at least twice. I hope its not just chock full of live service rubbish, after 2 years of almost nothing
Dare I dream
PERSONA 6 Reveal?
Phase 2 of PS5? 2 - 5 = 3. Half Life 3 confirmed.
@UltimateOtaku91 Atlus is in bed with Microsoft now so I wouldnt je suprised if Persona 6 will he shown off during an Xbox Event lol
@get2sammyb That's my concern, people will be expecting the world but will be "outraged" when a fair number of games announced are their live service games.
I think this one needs to be pretty big for Sony for 3 reasons
1. Other than Spider-man 2 and Wolverine (which is presumably years away) what else do Sony have lined up for this year and the next year in terms of first party? We don't even have stuff to look forward to in the future right now. Applies to both PS5 and PSVR2 but ESPECIALLY the former, that is most important.
2. Xbox are going to have a pretty great year this year and they are likely to crush not-E3. Sony need to compete.
Knack 3!
Bloodborne 2….? Have we given up on that? Rumors and speculation were rampant for a while but have been silenced. To be fair, there’s so many Soulsborne games now that it might not create the same level of excitement it once could have.
I think I’d like to see something about Factions 2. It seems to have been in the works for a very long time. But ND are busy making TV shows, remakes of remasters, and PC port fails, so I guess there’s no time for like, ya know, an actual new game being developed. 😜
Judging by the existence of yesterday's article about PSVR2, Sony should really have a big segment in the next showcase on PSVR2 software if they're actually taking the platform seriously.
I miss the days Sony used to communicate with its audience.
All I need is a release date for Stellar Blade and I'm good. More info on Pragmata and Aftermath would be a nice bonus. A new trailer for Death Stranding 2 would also be appreciated.
Sony has been such mutes about their first party stuff for almost two years now. I dont think whatever showcase they do will ever meet the expectations from this massive drought.
The sad part is most of what they'll announce is probably just those dumba#$ live service titles they have in development.
Happy to wait for the games to be ready before being shown off. Devs have it tough enough as it is. Couldn't care less about PSVR2 or anything remotely Japanese myself. Happy just to see more info on Spiderman 2 and maybe a couple of surprises too. Microsoft are banking everything on Starfield. They've got their work cut out too.
Pragmata please lord, show us this damn game already 😬 (although I felt that way about Project Athia for a while, so maybe we can lower expectations 😁)
Everywhere
Project 007
Not necessarily Sony stuff, but I'm sure some of them, Pragmata mostly, was initially shown at some PS branded show, I don't know.
Just show us some actual games and surprise us, damn it! 😁
I personally think PS5 is already thrown under bus, and SONY is concetrating on PS6 around 2025.
I must be the only one that doesn't have any expectations. If they show something cool then great but I'll be here gaming away anyway.
@themightyant Xbox having a great year? When? 2003/4?. Pushsquare, home of the glass half empty
Hoping for more PSVR 2 games, something to really blow us away. Astrobot please!!!
@get2sammyb Honestly I can’t blame him as everything he said is true, however I’m still excited to see what’s coming for PS5 but I definitely don’t have “sky-high” expectations as you described earlier, I really miss those PS4 days with Shawn Layden at the helm.
It sounds silly but given the silence, Sony really do need to knock it out of the park here. I'd expect most of Sony's first party to be present with perhaps the exception of Polyphony Digital, Housemarque, and Guerilla who will just have launched Burning Sands.
At the very least i would want to see:
Insomniac - Spiderman (if they want to hold off on showing Wolverine till next year i think that is reasonable
Bend - new IP
Naughty Dog - Factions and release date. Just get it done at this point and get onto the new ip / TLOU Pt 3
Santa Monica - Cory Barlog's project
Sucker Punch - Ghost of Tsushima sequel
Pixelopus - Collab with Sony Animation
Plus whatever Haven Games, Bluepoint, Deviation etc are working on.
I'd also like to see some 3rd party stuff like death stranding 2, metal gear solid, silent hill 2, final fantasy 7 remake part 2, Stellar Blade, Rise of the Ronin etc.
But most of all, i just want Sony to properly communicate again. The above is all very unrealistic for one show - but just hearing Sony talk passionately about games again would be enough
I hope they showcase a device that allows me to travel to a time where the Internet doesn't exist.
@Mikey856 This year mate. Hi-Fi Rush, Redfall, Starfield, Forza Motorsport. I'm sure they will have some surprises too. Yes I get that it's a PlayStation site but denying the obvious doesn't help anyone!
@themightyant 3 of those 4 were well in to development before they bought them. Impressive indeed. I wonder what they'll buy for a great looking 2024.
@themightyant literally none of those games would make me buy an Xbox 🤷♂️
@themightyant They definitely have potential to have a great year. Wouldn't be surprised to see something else like Senuas Saga coming out - plus the Activision deal going through. So in theory this year will be huge for them.
I still dont trust Microsoft not to fumble like they have in recent years (a la Halo infinite etc) but Starfield is the first xbox game in years i will admit to having been genuinely interested in - assuming bethesda can launch a stable product.
Hopefully a stronger Microsoft can also provoke Sony into having an equally strong year. I've 100% faith in Insomniac delivering a banger with Spiderman 2
@Intr1n5ic maybe they’ll buy ND and launch tlou mp
I'm just looking forward to seeing what they have first party wise.
We need to see what their first party lineup is over the next two years.
@Intr1n5ic I'm well aware they were in development beforehand thanks. Doesn't change the fact they will be Xbox exclusives and means a big year, not that i'm happy about it.
@Mikey85 We all like different things.
@get2sammyb Yeah, the gift and curse of silence are expectations build up pretty high. But I think Sony can deliver. We might know about some games (Spider-man 2, TLOU, Wolverine) but we've seen nothing from Sony's 'phase 2' essentially. 4-5 first party announcements, some updates on 3rd party exclusives, and I think they'll be golden.
@themightyant Well, all that purchasing of other people's games had to start paying off at some point.
@themightyant i reckon if Sony had anything big to announce this show would be on 13/14th, to overshadow Starfield.
i fully agree with both your points
@stvevan starfield or spiderman2 hmmmmm
@PlayStationGamer3919 🤦🏻♂️
@Mikey856 well i already know plenty about SM2, going to play similar to the other two.
Starfield is a brand new, interesting ip. But alot Depends on its release state.... and lets be honest, if it was releasing on PS also we would have plenty looking forward to it
@stvevan who doesn’t know about spiderman2 lol and I guarantee it’ll have a lot better gameplay than whatever loop starfield revolves around. NMS anyone?
In my honest opinion it's time to put the PS4 to bed and focus solely on the PS5 so we can get the quality games we expected when we purchased the ps5
I want to be dazzled with brilliance and not baffled with bull.... A PS5 not ugly slim to replace the big ugly original PS5. Also all black out of the box and with a web browser like the PS4 and Xbox X have. That would be brilliance.
I almost purchased an Xbox X while out shopping yesterday, the store also had a PS5, but there is just no way. Maybe if it had an ugly + no browser 50% off markdown I would have taken it home.
Games info: Mafia 4, GTA 6, and at least 2 new Sony exclusives to be excited about.
With Microsoft buying so many Western RPG and FPS studios, we could really do with some new Sony IPs announced to fill those gaps.
I’d just like a first party game that actually doesn’t take itself so deathly serious.
@KundaliniRising333 That's an exceedingly pessimistic outlook.
Live services doesn't have to be lame or predatory. Minecraft is a live service, Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a live service, Forza Horizon is a live service, Destiny is a live service.
Yes I am sure SOME of the games from Sony will be more towards the worst of what you fear, but I cannot believe the majority will be. Sony knows exactly what has made them successful in the last few years, what has made them stand apart, and they won't want to stop making those AAA games we love. I suspect most will be live-service LITE.
They have 22 studios, some with several teams. Do you think they are all twiddling their fingers or only working on live service games? I can't believe that. We are due an update on many of these studios and they won't all be 'years off'.
You talk of 'past trends', well here is a past trend for you. Every time people count Sony out they come out with a large showcase and surprise. It happened in the run up to PS5 when the pessimists were out in force, then they had a couple of giant showcases outlining the next couple of years, which they have delivered on.
I expect this conference to be exactly what you would expect considering it's placement around not-E3, a giant spectacle for the next year or two of PlayStation.
Perhaps i'm wrong... but I guarantee it won't be as dire as your pessimism suggests. Only time will tell.
@northofthewall it’s a complete copy of nms and hell, even they managed to develop a proper planetary entry system instead of a loading screen 😭 Bethesda haha. Good old charming bethesdas glitches. Are you also aware starfield has been delayed AGAIN
@northofthewall what the games that were coming to the end of development DURING THE PANDEMIC LOCKDOWNS no wonder they were late bro. And it definitely has been delayed 😂 is it ever going to release? Don’t hold ya breath
Im hype to see the future of Sony first party studios games unlike some haters here.
My Wishes (that are very needed after the questionable silence):
@northofthewall 5 years and counting. The game looks pretty average bro, the only reason there’s any sort of hype is because it’s a new x box game. And the only reason that’s true is because they brought Bethesda who were probably already developing it. Hence the delays because they can’t get it to run properly on series consoles like a lot of other games.
Removed - trolling/baiting
@northofthewall pragmata, death stranding 2 , FF7rebirth, the last of us multiplayer, knights of the old republic
Removed - trolling/baiting
@LordBakemono
Well, that's the only thing I want to get from upcoming PS4 / PS5 games.
While other peoples here are busy for AAA Western games, I only care for kids games since that's the only thing I have interest about.
Is he reliable though?
In February he stated that Starfield was releasing in June.
I think PushSq needs to keep a chart of the rumours that they publish and whether they end up being true or false.
@NoCode23 oh good lord yikes. Do it man. Buy it. No one will hate you.
You guys really like using that sunglasses pic.
Hopefully we get some nice updates and gameplay, not CGI trailers that have made up the competitor’s showings. Say what you want about the PlayStation releases since the launch of the PS5, they’ve released soooo much more than others.
Ps5 console launch was the best console launch ever. Practically all sony first party studios delivered with glorious results the past 3 years that ps5 is in the market. Right now except of Insomniac's Spiderman we do not know what any of the big Sony fp studios are doing. ND(beside factions), SM(the Barlog game), Bend, SP (tsushima 2?), Bluepoint, Housemarque,Pixelopus, Team Asobi, Insomniac's Wolverine, are getting to the 1.5 year release window, so most should be anounced in the summer show. We also should get release dates for third party colaborators like Project: The Perceiver, Death Stranding 2, Ueda's new game, Helldivers 2. The big Cyga games(Granblue Fantasy: Relink, Project Awakening). Maybe for the Pearl Abyss games(Crimson Desert, DokeV, Plan 8). Also Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. And of course all the GAAS games that they are planning like the Horizon MP, Factions 2, Deviation, Haven, Firewalk, London studio, Firesprite (twisted metal) new games, something new from Bungie all should be presented soon.
It has the potential to be huge for Sony.
Man, Grubb's tweets irk me as another clout hungry guy.
@Octane Don't play with my emotions like that.
@CaptD it doesn't matter as long as we keep on clicking on them. Same with tabloids. People still read them for some reason.
@themightyant I'm excited about none of that lol. But to each his own I suppose.
Cool.when it happens.and its official.then its all good.word up son
@tomic20 that's exactly what i've been saying myself. people are complaining we don't know what every studio is working on , but realistically a lot of those studios are working on something , meaning they still have plenty of surprises and games to announce.
I hope we see what Bend, Bluepoint, and Haven are working on.
Also any update on Ballistic Moon and Deviations projects would be nice.
@KundaliniRising333 hmmmm 10 live service games but non are coming from the main staples of playstation.
Reality is we havent heard from anyone.
Insomniac; Spiderman 2, I dont see wolverine being shown before spidey 2 drops.
SuckerPunch; time to unveil what they are working on.
Bend Studio; we still are at a loss of what they are cooking up for a return to triple A.
Bluepoint games; we know they are working on a remake of a beloved game of old and also we know they are creating a brand new ip. Let's see.
Team Asobi; made an epic launch title for Ps5 to showcase it. But they have been quiet ever since.
Firesprite; even though they helped out with Horizon Call of the mountain, they are well into development of there own game.
London studio; are making an online game.
Haven have talked the talk of something revolutionary but we havent heard much else.
Naughty Dog yes probably a live service game but they go above and beyond with their online games. Factions was great and uncharted had a great fun multiplayer
I mean take your pick. We have alot of news to hear about and then there is the whole twisted metal revival. We will have to see that.
The future looks very bright.
Be happy with a state of play for the horizon dlc at the moment 😅
There will hopefully be some big announcements but there really is quite alot on the way already🤩
@Shepherd_Tallon or rockstar!
PS5 remaster - well, they've done everything else!
Actually, "phase 2" could easily be a reference to the redesigned PS5 with hopefully less lard.
I'll believe it when I see it. Until there's an official announcement, Summer game events don't start for me until Summer Games Fest and the Xbox Showcase.
