As promised alongside yesterday’s poster reveal, here’s your very first look at Twisted Metal’s television adaption, which is scheduled to start streaming on Peacock in the US from 27th July, 2023. The trailer is the very definition of a teaser, showing star Anthony Mackie getting into his car, selecting a CD for his Sony stereo, and riding into the apocalypse guns glazing. The stinger then ends with a brief shot of Sweet Tooth.
The series will consist of ten episodes, each 30 minutes in length, and will adopt an “action comedy” vibe. Looking at this teaser trailer, it’s clear that PS Productions is going for a campy, corny vibe, which is going to be difficult to nail – but could potentially be entertaining if executed well. Unfortunately, there’s not enough on offer here to draw any firm conclusions either way.

They spend almost as much time telling you the teaser's starting than on the teaser itself!
Interested too see if Samoa Joe is any good in this
@get2sammyb wonder if they're saving the actual trailer for the showcase along with a game announcement
@Americansamurai1 Possible!
I just don’t get who it’s for. Somehow this got a budget and was greenlit and the cast are reading a script that was written by writers. Let’s be honest, Twisted Metal was never a cultural phenomenon and is barely remembered by anyone in their twenties or below. Without nostalgia for the games, this is just a big old mess that’ll inevitably be panned by critics.
Lol Len was a hilarious and excellent music choice. I don't have Peacock but I'm more interested than I was a minute ago.
What was he shooting at? Seems like a waste of ammo to shoot at an empty rode.
This will find a place in a haystack of forgettable, awful shows.
Very nice, very nice, now about we Sony's new Twisted Metal game?
Dude, I'm stoked for a new TM game. And that teaser wasn't much but I'll watch it while clutching my copy of TM2. The GOAT
@get2sammyb Why do those “Teaser starts now” things even exist they’re on every trailer now, do studios think audiences are that dumb they can’t even tell if the trailer has started yet
Lol looks pretty fun, maybe I'm due to give Anthony Wackie some credit
@nessisonett turn your brain off and enjoy the spectacle. It's an action comedy ffs, basically Fast & Furious. You'd be wasting your brain power if you looked at it with a critical lens
@theMEGAniggle That’s such a brain dead argument though, plenty ‘dumb’ action movies both review well and are enjoyed by audiences. Mad Max Fury Road and the John Wick movies are perfect examples of that. TV isn’t the space for that sort of content, you can’t turn a 2 hour thrill ride into a 6 or 8 hour show without slowing the pace.
@nessisonett you just gave two examples of movies that are the furthest thing from 'dumb' action movies.
Movies like Fast & Furious, Face/Off, Transporter, Expendables, Kingsman are 'dumb' action movies. Spectacle over story. Turn off your critical lens and enjoy the action. And the story they have are nonsensical. I'd even throw in Uncharted to that.
Its proven to be attractive to viewers so just because you don't see it doesn't make it a brain dead argument. I didn't say it won't suck but its clearly a dumb action TV show.
And lastly, it being a TV show does not automatically equal it not working. I think the service its on is more detrimental to its eventual fate. If it was on Netflix then it wouldn't matter but being on Peacock will hurt it.
@nessisonett I don't think this will be action heavy, I think they're going for stoner Tank Girl vibes. It's going to be attempt to be Guardians of the Galaxy w/ the humour and pop music, it ain't no Mad Max or John Wick, that's blasphemy!!😝 I don't even think it's going to be as serious as the Expendables movies, pure tongue in cheek nonsense here. Possibly going for a Firefly vibe at most, I could see Mackie studying Nathan Fillion for his sass factor.
Fortunately for me I like pretty much everything, from John Woo hardcore Hard Boiled action flicks to Seth Rogen stoner flicks. The trick is, and a lot don't get it right, everyone involved needs to know what they are making, drama, action, comedy, spoof. You can tell when they don't know, it's garbage. Best case scenario, this is a spoof, like Mel Brooks making a Mad Max movie, see Blazing Saddles. We'll see.
@theMEGAniggle This: "it was on Netflix then it wouldn't matter but being on Peacock will hurt it"
In my head Peacock is for people to watch the Olympics. Paramount has some stuff going on w/ those Yellowstone shows, I signed up for Tulsa King b/c I'm an idiot who watches anything w/ Sly in it, and of course all things Star Trek. Peacock has Poker Face but I think that's it. Guess is there attempt at bringing people in who watch MCU movies and The Last of Us? I feel really bad for anyone tuning in to this expecting The Last of Us . 😂
@rjejr couldn't have said it better myself. This is clearly not meant to be taken seriously from the teaser, it looks fun and looks like Antony Mackie (a very unserious person) in his element. Plus Will Arnett? Are you kidding me??!
I don't have a Peacock subscription and this is tempting me but won't make me get one. I already reluctantly pay for 4 streaming services as it is.
Peacock also has a lot of NBC shows I believe but that audience doesn't strike me as action comedy focussed
the fact that they’ve decided to focus on a tv show of a dead franchise that fans have been begging for another game for over a decade is the reason i love that ppl are panning it already .
i wouldn’t have felt like this if they released a damn game first. this is a slap in the face , even if it’s good, i rather play it instead of watch & then never watch again .
@theMEGAniggle seriously or not , if this isn’t a mix of twisted metal 2 , black , 2012 then it’s a flop .
@nomither6 Just so you know, a new game is heavily rumoured to be in development at Firesprite.
@get2sammyb i’m aware . the “rumor” makes me take it with a grain of salt . i’ve been excited about rumors before
Twisted metal world tour PS1 big box version is pricey these days lol. Need! P.s this actually could be good but it needs to be action heavy, like the games
@theMEGAniggle I will probably sign up for a month of Peacock for this b/c I have to know, but I'll wait for it to be over like I do w/ most shows, even TLoU I basically watched all 7 episodes in 3 nights before the finale. And Poker Face looks interesting. I'm sill not expecting it to be good good, but it could be enjoyable for a laugh. Maybe Paul Rudd will put in a cameo and kick his butt. 😂
Sounds like rights are purchased in wholesale, after the motto "I heard video game movies/shows will be the next superheromovie boom, give me everything you got!"
It looks 50/50 to me. The first half is cookie cutter what suits think people want to watch while the bit with sweet tooth at least looks faithful.
@Americansamurai1 That would be perfect cross-promoting if true. Here's hoping that turns out to be the case.
