We thought EA Sports PGA Tour was a fantastic golf sim, even with its analogue-based swing mechanic. But obviously that gameplay style is not for everyone, and the publisher has acknowledged that by updating the release with a more classical triple-click swing system. The patch is available now, and while we’re yet to test it out for ourselves, we’re looking forward to hitting the links later this evening.
The patch actually adds a lot of meaningful improvements outside of the fresh control scheme: a fast-play presentation system will get you across the course quicker than before, and improvements have been made to the green putting grid – as well as the camera in certain awkward situations. All this stands to make an already outstanding sports sim better than ever before, and we’ve included the patch highlights below.
If you’re still on the fence with this excellent golf game, then you can check out our EA Sports PGA Tour PS5 review through the link for more.
Patch 2.0 Highlights
- Addition of 3-click swing feature
- New Presentation settings added
- Fast Play: skips player reaction and putting walk up NIS automatically for a faster presentation experience
- Putt Meter: turns on/off the putt meter visibility
- Button Hints: turns on/off button hint displayed in the bottom of the screen during gameplay
- Green grid improvements: In order to help with ball visibility and also responding to player feedback, after the ball is hit the green grid now quickly fades out

- PC mouse support added
- Camera fixes: For unplayable lie animations when camera was placed in areas that blocked visibility
- Cup resized: Reducing the size of the cup so it maps to the physics model 1:1 and players don’t see the ball roll past when it looks like it should lip in

- Shot types screen added in Pause menu - explaining all different shot types
- Store content added - Including hats, shoes, drivers and more
- Shot types explanation graphic added to Pause Menu
- Fixing Online issue: Backing out of Event info Screen while a countdown is in progress will load the users in a wrong course the next time they matchmake

Excellent!
All great additions. I'm loving this game and hope that EA continues to add new features and fixes as we go forward.
3 click here I come....
Much as I thought I wanted three click, after a weekend with this title (10 hours via Game pass - thank you), I enjoyed using the stick for taking shots.
I enjoyed it so much, that I wouldn't switch to 3 clicks now.
That said, I'm not buying this at full price, so by the time I get it at half price or better, I might feel different!
Options is always good though, so nice to see them being responsive to feedback.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this - if you are on the fence, try to play a demo for a while and you might be convinced..
@Titntin One of the best sports games in some time IMO!
"Cup resized: Reducing the size of the cup so it maps to the physics model 1:1 and players don’t see the ball roll past when it looks like it should lip in"
I knew I wasn't going mad!
I actually found myself preferring 2K mechanically myself. Though I will give EA the edge in terms of ball physics and presentation.
These are some good improvements though. The putting in particular felt off to me so I'm interested to give another go.
Really enjoying this so far glad EA are making golf games again i never could get into the 2k games.
Enjoyed it so far. Would be nice to reduce the number of times the PGA Tour/other logos come up between shots. It's used to hide camera changes/loading but it's OTT. Don't need to see it 70 times every 18 holes.
I like a good golf game. Is this one still only 30fps? If so, I’m be at the 19th hole until that’s available.
@Titntin I’m also glad they added the three-click.
But yeah, I’ll definitely try the analog stick first, to see how it compares to other golf games. Just knowing that I can fall back to it if I don’t end up liking the stick makes it more likely that I’ll eventually buy this game.
But, much like you, I’m not paying full price for it. $89.99 Canadian is way too much. I’m definitely waiting for a significant price drop.
It sucks though that there’s no demo on PlayStation.
Sweet. I bought Mario Golf Super Rush recently and man, it’s mediocre compared to the N64, GC, and 3DS entries. It’s not bad but the altered mechanics just make the game less fun.
This might be my go-to golf game now that it has 3-click button controls. Plus the option to make the game faster paced is a huge plus as the game felt a bit slow before. I have to say, they’re doing a good job of fixing the game’s issues.
@Anke Same here. I know the hole is a bit further away in a lot of cases but I swear it would hover right over sometimes!
I have some 25 hours into it and I feel like excellent is a pretty generous appraisal, though these are good fixes.
2 out of the guys at work i play golf with and pga2k23 with play this and they tell me its really good and i wont really notice the 30fps. Although they do agree with me that 60fps makes pga2k23 more responsive they are nagging me to take a punt so i may cave as its golf and i'm all about the golf..
@R_Ryder It’s a golf game. When you’re using the controls everything is still. I have no idea why people think this will make a difference to them!
I was one of the 60 FPS or nothing people, but I got it anyway after trying the trial, and I love it. The swing isn't perfect and driving the ball is too easy, but playing on full sim options, it gives me one of the best golf experiences I've had. By that I mean that I actually have to play the course instead of solving equations in my head and pinpointing the landing spot. The game does this a few ways, but among them are showing the carry versus the total distance on a shot, hiding exact wind speed (and varying gusts), and hiding exact elevation numbers. I wouldn't recommend it to everyone, but if you're looking specifically to recreate a PGA Tour season with that in mind, it's a lot of fun.
These changes are also great and show that they are listening to feedback, so I look forward to a few more in the future, especially with multiplayer.
As for 60 FPS, the thought is it would improve the feel of the swing which is a little heavy/delayed from the button input. It works as is for me, but I can understand the annoyance.
Where's the new Everybody's Golf
When they add a 60fps mode I’ll buy it
Great that they've patched these things in but you have to ask seriously why weren't they there in the first place
Hope they update the swing meter, it’s abysmal compared to 2k23. Can’t judge the lag either on the swing. Really hope they improve it and add 60fps soon
The should make a VR mode. Don’t have PSVR2 yet but my fav game on Oculus 2 is golf an i’m not even a golf fan.
Swap the 60 pound price tag with the 30 frame performance and I'll shake on it.
@DualWielding It''s called Clap Hanz Golf and it's on Apple Arcade and the Switch. Sony were too blind to see the ramifications of closing down Japan Studio and this is part of the fallout.
Feelings of melancholy and how fun Everybody Golf was upon seeing the “nice shot” picture in this article. Damn you PushSquare!
