While few, if any, will ever weep for Rockstar Games, having to deliver a follow-up to something as monumental as Grand Theft Auto V has to be among the most daunting tasks in all of modern game development. CEO Strauss Zelnick apparently knows this and is shooting for the moon anyways, stating that Rockstar Games is "seeking perfection" while developing Grand Theft Auto 6.
Zelnick made the comment in a recent interview on The Aarthi and Sriram Show (thanks, TweakTown). It's kind of a CEO's job to talk up an upcoming product, so take that particular quote with a grain of salt, but its nice to see such confidence.
GTA 6 could be out on PS5 as early as next year, so we likely won't have too much longer to wait to see some real gameplay. Despite the catastrophic leak last year, parent company Take-Two has gone on record stating it won't have an effect on development.
What are your expectations for GTA 6? Are you ready to declare it The Once and Future GOAT, here and now? Go berserk in the comments section below.

after all these years of joking, its still weird to actually hear news about this game.
GTA 5, though very good in some ways, was also pretty bad in other ways. And I'm quite nervous about 6 being the absolute worst yet, especially if those in charge think that what made 5 good, was actually the stuff that made it less good. And I'm talking about within the single player campaign only (the boring heist set ups and overall drawn out mid game quest design, urgh)
I fear they have lost their mojo.
But, if the premise and writing is inspired by films like Wild at Heart, True Romance, Raising Arizona, then we're in for a great game. But I just have a feeling that this one going to come across as more inspired by reality TV rather than just parodying it for a bit :/
I hope gta6 will have only one protagonist, I don't enjoy switching up between the 3 protagonist on gta5.
I only bothered with GTA V back on PS3. It's essentially been a decade since I last played the series and I honestly don't care to return knowing that it will be a glorified GaaS. I'd honestly be surprised if they bothered with a single player at all.
They shouldn't be seeking perfection, they should be aiming for revolution. Rockstar has been looking antiquated since GTAV. And with open-world tent pole releases like Breath of the Wild and Ellen Ring, imagining another tired game with fickle, limp movement and level design at odds with its sandbox is less than inspiring.
Red Dead 2 got away with it due to its ornate, immaculate detail and beautiful sunsets. But that was still years ago — and even then, there's just as many detectors as there are admirers. Rockstar needs something big, fresh, and trend setting. GTAV but more graphics and physics just ain't gonna cut it.
I'm expecting disappointment to be honest
@wiiware
I thought having three protagonists was great for pacing and mission design.
Thank the gods, I thought they were only aiming for an average game.
While aiming for the stars is always important I feel Rockstar has some misplaced priorities. This is the studio that made horse testicles that changed size depending on the weather in RDR2 and a stock market that changed based on events in game in GTAV. Both features that are virtually useless while playing. For R* specifically I think aiming a little lower, reigning the scope in, and publishing a little faster would be a benefit. It’s looking like it will be 12 years since GTAV when the sequel finally arrives
Still don’t know what GOAT means.
I've no doubt whatsoever that the world created will be fantastic and full of detail, Rockstar are the best in the biz at that. However, going off the last few years of GTA Online content, It's the writing, characters and humour that I'm a tad concerned about. I also really hope they don't tiptoe around some of today's social and political issues and instead just take the p**s out of everything and everyone.
Could be an excellent game as usual for Rockstar, but my biggest concern is how they'll handle the writing, especially the political satire. The political landscape has changed a lot since GTA V's release, with major events such as President Trump and Brexit for instance. It all feels more extreme and polarized these days. Whether Rockstar can work their magic and make the satire fun, I'm not sure.
While it won't be a priority for Rockstar I'd like to see a PSVR2 version of GTA. From PC Mods we know it can work, and would be a huge system seller for Sony.
Have absolutely zero interest in GTA6. Need something new and different.
One area Rockstar could really stand to improve on is combat. Their worlds are beautiful and insanely detailed but once combat starts the way they rely on lock-on for shooting feels so antiquated. Really hope GTA6 improves here.
I'll be interested to see how it turns out, but the crazy hype I used to join in on with Rockstar games has long gone.
Also, how on earth do they deal with woke, which wasn't a thing for previous releases? If they 'lean into it' even one iota, I'm leaning out entirely.
I'll probably play it at some point if reviews are good but I'm not excited about it like I was 10-15 years ago for a new GTA.
Maybe if they did something crazy like GTA Bangkok or something but we already know that's not the case.
And like others have said, I hope they do something about the crime system with cops spawning randomly in the desert. Or shooting your body armor while driving a car, etc.
@Ravix I'm in agreement. GTA5 is still over hyped the actual main game isn't great. I mean its ment to be grand theft auto. Not min golf and tennis simulator not to mention the strange triathlon mini game but completely forgot about actual illegal side activities.
It was a very eye candy game in the sense of everything looked pretty but not kuch could be done in the game.
But on that note red dead 2 is absolute perfection, im playing through it again now on my PS5
@Bez87 yep, RDR2 is immensely replayable. GTA5 is maybe the first GTA game that I've played that I didn't enjoy going back to. It's a real slog in the story, and there's nothing but the world to enjoy again, really.
GTA4, I may have played about 8 times. I just kept going back to it, and yes there are some moments where you want to get through them quicker, but I cared a whole lot more about that game as a whole. Stuff seemed to matter a lot more, there was a constant fight against the world, and a struggle to survive.
GTA5 was like: do a thing. Oh no, no, gangster one says you fail. Do another thing. Oh no, no. The FIB/The government/Military contractors. Blah. It was too Fast and Furious style of hardship. Just complete fantasy tripe. Nothing was grounded in reality, other than some small character elements between the protagonists. All the heist goals and enemies were just dumb Hollywood stuff.
In fact, I'd sum it up as...
GTA: More Micheal Bay than Michael Mann that seems catchy enough 😁
I feel like a new GTA game won't be the same without lead writer and producer Dan Houser. When will he hear about his new projects?
Cant wait for grand theft auto 6.its gonna be a masterpiece.word up son
@Ravix I just found GTA5 an enjoyable time with the story but I never felt any reason to go off and see the world because it really had nothing in it. Any YouTube videos you find on the game about secrets are just symbols or pictures of things.
But Red dead 2, I can literally play my own story for hours on end without even touching the main quest.
I've just done 2 treasures maps to get extra cash and on the way, I stumbled across a guy who wanted a race, a woman who needed a lift home as her horse had died and some blind guy just standing around.
I know of the crazy secrets within the world, like the crazy couple who are brother and sister and rob people by spiking there drinks. Like this stuff is incredible to think you could play the whole game and never come across any of this. Thats just 1 of 100s of things going on.
Plus you can speak to every NPC in the game, Rob stores and trains properly, I remember GTA 5 you had to trick the game to Rob a store.
GTA 6 better learn and expand on what red dead 2 has done to be perfection in my eyes not just better than GTA 5.
I'm a little worried that the originals have left the company.
Always happy to hear Rockstar continues to strive for perfection and high quality game releases.
