Just like that, Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged has been announced by Milestone. Considering the original was the studio's best-selling game ever, we suppose a sequel was inevitable — and here it is. The debut trailer is CG, but it teases a number of interesting new twists to the formula.
Based on the collectible toy cars of the same name, this arcade racing game traditionally keeps tracks locked to those signature plastic orange roads. While you diverted a little bit in the first game, it looks like this will be a larger focus this time, with the trailer including a large portion of driving outside in the open.
According to the official website, we'll be racing around various new locations, each of which will have differing terrain types, all of which will affect the handling of your car. Some of these new environments include the backyard from the trailer, an arcade, and a gas station.
We're also introduced to motorbikes, monster trucks, and other vehicles joining the fun, and some new mechanics show up here; jumps and sideswipes look to up the ante in terms of action.
The website also confirms the return of the campaign mode (with an all-new story), plus several new modes for the sequel: Grab the Gears, Demo Derby, Drift Master, and Waypoints. Details are slim on those, though they're fairly self-explanatory. On top of all that, Turbocharged introduces a new skill system, which allows you to outfit your favourite vehicles with unique perks.
We really liked Hot Wheels Unleashed, and going by this announcement trailer and what we can see on the website, we should be in for a treat with the follow-up. Hopefully we get to see some gameplay soon. Fortunately, the sequel isn't too far away, launching on PS5 and PS4 on 19th October, 2023.

Yes please!
I bought the first for my son last Christmas and he never got into it, surprisingly. Polite pass on this one for now.
I HOPE they know how to manage the battle passes this time (not having bp would be asking the impossible) so they don't need to kill the game in less than a year.
Fantastic! I put 100s of hours into the first one so will be day one on this one too.
Hopefully it's more arcadey and less physics-heavy. The first game was begging to be kid-friendly but it was so easy to botch a jump or turn and fly off the track, with the normal difficulty requiring absolute PERFECTION in a lot of races... it just wasn't kid-friendly at all.
Even I gave up in frustration cause it was just a slog to work through and fight the demands of what should have been a straightforward arcade racer.
Touching grass this time
Loved the first one, but the campaign was too short. I really hope they make it bigger in this one.
First one was actually surprisingly awesome
Really enjoyed the first one (I even bought the Game of the Year edition with all the DLC bundled in), so I’ll definitely be picking this one up, too. Hugely underrated racer, this.
After the way they ***** up the PS4 to PS5 upgrades and not having a cross save migration it’s a no from us!
It's a week late but finally the big hitter for Playstations showcase has arrived!
In all seriousness I loved the original, one of the few games I've bothered to platinum with my short attention span and I cant be more excited for this!
@Stormageddon True, but the original ran and looked like a dream on the old Pro.
I'm all for keeping up support for the old stager if it's a game that runs fine within its capabilities. Let's face it, Hot Wheels isn't exactly pushing the boundaries of the PS4 to breaking point.
Hope they actually make this one cross-buy (and without a premium charge [glares at LEGO 2K Drive]).
Tempting, I'll grab the game when it eventually drops onto PS Plus.
