Publisher THQ Nordic, unable to conceive of a reality in which Alan Wake 2 doesn't release physically, has offered to do precisely that for developer Remedy. As the venerable distributor reminds the talented studio: "I mean... we did the disc version of Alan Wake for PC back in the day."
In case you missed it, the long-awaited sequel to Alan Wake is coming to PS5 on 17th October, where it aims to be the most graphically impressive game on the platform... at least, until the next big game comes along.
Would you pony up for a physical release of Alan Wake 2, or have you already accepted your inevitable digital future? Put your money where your mouth is in the comments section below.

Am I going to have to download 95 percent of the game regardless after inserting the disc in like a lot of games now which effectively makes the disc pointless aside from being a very expensive drink coaster? If so don't even bother guys.
This is quite an unusual intervention from a publisher right? I mean, good for them. Remedy’s decision is a shocking one.
@PegasusActual93 I see people bringing this up all the time but this isn't the case at all, it's rather an exception. If you mean D1 patches, that is absolutely true but, unless otherwise stated on the case, there has to be a gold master on the discs.
@PegasusActual93 You can sell that "coaster" for some money back. Physical all day, every day
Their reasoning for keeping the price at 60 is ridiculous, it's a 10 difference. If that's your main reason for doing it you're price should be at 30 like most digital only games. And why is the PC version cheaper, it's both digital.
I'm only digital and have been for the past 2 years now so it doesn't affect me personally but the option should still be there for those with bad internet which thankfully I have no problem of that anymore.
Digital purchases are a must for me because I don't like to own things
well, i'm not even sure this is remedy's call to be honest. isn't it the publisher's decision? in this case, it is epic games who is publishing alan wake 2 so it would be best to get THEM on the phone.
I have gotten to the point yes I love physical, but I am always down to save money were I can. Games now require you to install the full game on your console and have same day patches. I will get the physical only if its cheaper than a Digital(which is usually the case)
Definitely physical copy for me (and my internet is perfectly fine thanks! 🤣)
I can see why people go digital only but I 100% prefer physical - both from a collector perspective (for best ones) and a resell / lend to friends perspective
Keep up the pestering THQ Nordic!
Physical is always far cheaper as you can buy second hand then sell on for most of the money back. This is obviously what publishers are all trying to stop. Whether that be by releasing it only digitally or releasing DLC expansion packs long after release or making GaaS. Not saying it’s good or bad, but at least be honest about it.
The only slight point they could have is if retailers insist on price parity with digital as they once did. But numerous examples have shown that to no longer be the case.
"You hear that Mr. Anderson?...That is the sound of inevitability..."
Digital only future is coming, and not buying specific games because of it won't change anything, but hey, one can choose to die on any hill they like.
Remedy realise how handily the disc-PS5 outsold the digital only one, right? And that they're releasing the game during the period when everyone is looking for and buying Christmas presents, right?
@Martijn87 It cheaper on PC most likely cause it an epic exclusive due Epic publishing the game. Epic store doesn’t take the 30% hit like Sony/Microsoft/Valve does.
@Dloki And another one here. Was one of my most anticipated game this year , still is, but no chance to buy it full price on digital. Will be waiting for the physical release if there'll be. I love physicals
No physical no sale from me that's for certain ,don't care how gd or bad the game is ,give people options for crying out loud ,no excuse for not a physical release in this day and age
It will get a physical release when it doesn’t meet sales expectations. Just have to be patient.
It is after all only a game but yes patience is key
@Czar_Khastik so very zen 😂
If the game turns out to be good, I can wait for an eventual disc release. In the very unlikely case that that shouldn't happen somewhere down the line, I'll just pick it up for pennies on one of the many key distributors. Not like Alan Wake ever set the gaming world on fire.
Kind of odd to release Alan Wake Remastered physically on current gen systems if you're going to keep the sequel digital only.
Yes please, make it physical!!!
@PegasusActual93 wish people would stop spreading this misconception. The number of games on PS that actually do this is very small. The vast majority of games will install and run off the disc.
If I wanted a digital game, I would have saved myself £90 on the console and not bought the disc version…
All this does is guarantee many (like myself) won’t buy it on release and will instead wait for the inevitable deep sale as a result.
@TripleKing333 Exactly. The compression in the PS5 and the fact that PS5 games only ship on UHD discs all means that most games actually install off the disc with just a day 1 patch to download. Yes, there are unfortunate exceptions for one reason or another, but there are far less games on the PS5 that have useless physical versions than on Xbox, @PegasusActual93.
Not being a fanboy or anything, as that's just an unfortunate fact as even some of Microsoft's own games have useless disc versions for no reason.
I do buy primarily digital on Playstation (the opposite on Switch) but I don't want to see the physical option disappearing and think this is a mistake from Remedy which will cost them sales
I don't understand why people that like digital media want to advocate for a digital only future. Dude, you be you, let me be me. If I want to buy a physical game what's the harm in having both choices?!
@NinjaNicky When a game is 100gb and there is a 1tb cap artificially imposed by companies like Comcast there will always be people who favor physical releases.
Hope this happens. They are missing out on a big group.
I'd prefer to have a physical version in my hand.
Now if they can announce a physical edition before the game comes out and it’s day and date with the digital or not too long after? Sure but if not I’ll just pick it up digitally. I’m not happy about it but I do love Alan Wake and honestly this seems like a situation where the developers mind is made up and they kinda don’t wanna budge on it.
@NinjaNicky Um no? I just wanted to mention a reason that wasn't mentioned by any of the other post...
Each game became serious when it is on disc... Digital is like photo of famous painting, picture is the same, but it is not serious as fabric with paints itself...
Developers shoukd know that not all gamers have pristine fast internet connections and therefore they should keep supporting the physical release and put the full hame on disc not like others are doing (I turn to you EA and Activision)
Yes physical geez paying for thin air don't appeal to me.
@Charbelmk exactly not even half megabyte at my folks house and it drops out regularly
I won't be buying digital, but would consider it if there's a physical release.
I hope they're successful, digital games take awhile to be massively discounted.
