The latest Alan Wake 2 trailer that debuted during the PlayStation Showcase revealed you won't only be playing as the famous writer in the PS5 sequel, but also an FBI agent named Saga Anderson. Entirely new to the world of Alan Wake, she's recently moved to Brightfalls and is "a really capable investigator. She is a mom, a teller of bad puns — what's not to love?" asks principal narrative designer Molly Maloney.
A new video embedded above helps you get to know the new co-main character, detailing how she links into the story. Principal writer Clay Murphy adds: "We have this theme of duality and echoes in Alan Wake 2 so we needed a counter-point, like another perspective, in the game that would play off of Alan's as well as having a character located in the Pacific northwest so we could have both of those worlds present in the game and playable for the players."
Melanie Liburd is both the face and voice of Saga in Alan Wake 2, who says this is her first time lending her appearance and voicework to a video game. The British actress has also appeared in TV shows like Power and This Is Us. In the video, she said: "I'm excited for the world to see Saga because I think she's a brilliant role model and just to see a woman in this role — a woman of colour being a protagonist in a game — we don't see that often. And just to have a lifestyle that she has, doing her best to balance work and a family, I just think that's really relatable to a lot of people."
Alan Wake 2 releases for PS5 on 17th October 2023 as a digital-only release at a price of £49.99/$59.99. Are you looking forward to playing as Saga Anderson in the game? Let us know in the comments below.

It’s looking a bit like a playable True Detective or something, which is quite cool.

This game looks like its shaping up nicely and could be a nice breath of fresh air from what the platforms are continuing to consolidate into in terms of games on offer.
Looking forward to this one!
@rachetmarvel watch power book 2 and you'll see a lot of her in it. Might be a lil x rated...
@KundaliniRising333 after Alan wake didn't get the flowers it deserved, I'm hoping this will be at least as big a hit as control was
Nahhh I think they're deceiving us, she must be related to Quantum Break's Saga Anderson.
Some multiversal ***** going on in here
I just bought the AW remaster and it's… honestly a bit dated? But the presentation and mood and music is still enjoyable. And I loved Control, so I'm hoping to see a fusion of the original concept and some updated design sensibilites.
Odyssey Johnson wasn't available.
As for Anthology Brown, who knows?
But they definitely didn't ask Chronicle Smith to appear.
@rachetmarvel. I was about to write the same thing haha.she is beautiful.word up son
@Cherip-the-Ripper Alan Wake was shown as a show on TV's during quantum break wasn't it? I'm very foggy on it, not having an Xbox, I never played QB just YouTube'd it, so couldn't exactly decide how much to explore for those things, but I did play AW with a friend a lot originally, and loved it. There's definitely some weird connection they've always had through their games, perhaps more than just casual easter eggs.
But this is the first time AW will release on PS initially, and QB was never on PS, so I can't imagine them basing too much on the actual QB stuff. Maybe just certain ideas they wanted to use have made their way over instead
@Ravix
I had to look it up because it's been a while for me as well but the in-game tv show Night Springs does appear in Quantum Break, also does in AW and is mentioned in Control. Apparently Alan Wake himself wrote the episodes for the show in-universe and the FBC acquired the rights to the show.
There definitely is more than a subtle connection between all of the games.
Between in-game collectible notes, recurring character (names), powers and I think organizations as well (FBC and maybe more).
Apparently most of it is 'explained' in Control's AWE DLC but I haven't played any of Control's DLCs.
I don't think they'll gloss over anything that's happened in Quantum Break.
I'm glad it's releasing on ps day one, hope it will fuel more sales and Remedy gets to build this universe even more.
It's why I was initially glad they secured Epic funding because I think they're masters at crafting this shared universe between games together with fromsoft.
And I'm not even necessarily that hyped to play the game, I just want to know more about what's happening in the universe.
@Cherip-the-Ripper well, if Alan Wake was a Lake, Then Alan Wake II (or the universe) is an Ocean 😁
I actually hope the new co-protag is sam lake rather than this rando woman
Going to be honest i'm not thrilled about having another playable character. I want to play as Alan Wake in Alan Wake 2 not someone else, maybe if it was Jesse from Control it would be different as it would nicely tie in with that but instead its a new character i don't care about.
Uh oh… already know where this is gonna go.
@WallyWest I mean, you could give it a chance… You go in already not wanting to care won’t help. If that’s the case you might as well skip the game altogether.
@AhmadSumadi I mean i'm still getting it but after spending 13 years really wanting a sequel i can't say i'm thrilled the title character and the main draw of the game has to share it with a brand new character who has had no ties to the Alan Wake/Control universe till now.
@KundaliniRising333 looks pretty generic and boring, neeeeext
Pffffff! More like Alan WOKE! Am I right? Write? Mhhhhhmm check please.
Digital only was already a tough sell and now its alan wake sometimes? Guess its not a bait and switch like MGS2 or last of us 2 at least.
I hope she adds to the game and has depth as a character instead of just being an inclusion to appease some type of people.
Still really excited to pick up this game. Still thinking of getting it Day 1. Funny tho that this game reminds me of Deadly Premonition 2. Sequel to cult classic game announced years later. One of the playable characters is a black detective lady while the other is the previous protagonist. Only difference is DP2 has a majority of its plot set before DP1. Not spoilers by the way that’s like publicly advertirsed. Whereas Alan Wake 2 I have to imagine largely is gonna take place after AW1.

@Ravix @Cherip-the-Ripper Personally I'd love to see them finally port or remaster Quantum Break over to PlayStation.
If Alan Wake 1 can be brought over, so can QB yes?
@KidRyan I hope they do as well! Don't know how it all works but I'm thinking the included tv series might be hard to get on another platform licensing wise. Especially now that Lance Reddick died.
Could ofcourse just watch it on youtube however, bit it's a nice tie-in to just have on the console to watch after you complete a chapter.
@Cherip-the-Ripper If anything, you'd think they'd want to hurry up on a re-release to get some good PR from honoring Lance Reddick's death.
Quantum Break was released in 2016, so I could see a 2026 remaster/port? Celebrating 10 years.
@KidRyan it took Alan Wake 11 years so that might not be too far off. If their Epic partnership continues I hope they manage to see a financial benefit to it.
@Cherip-the-Ripper Fingers crossed that turns into reality!
