All PS Plus Members Will Receive Commemorative Avatars for PS5, PS4

I'm not going to use any of the avatars as I've had the same Nathan Drake one for over a decade, but it's still cool that they are offering them.

It's surprising that it's already been a year since the revamp of PS Plus. It's been a great first year overall at least up to the Extra tier. Hopefully that continues.

I'm looking forward to seeing what new avatars are available.

can i ask whats the point of free wallpapers when the ps5 doesnt do wallpapers ?

Will you guys make another post about this when out? Because there’s roughly a 7% chance I remember it in a few days.

Nothing will ever replace my Astro Bot avatar.

They need a lot of new avatars, they still got PS3 one’s on there and nothing new in a long time. Customization is poor on PS5. Something i would like them to spend more time on. Happy to see what these will be.

Can you even get and change avatars directly on ps5?

@Flaming_Kaiser yeah they had some great ones. This is kind of why i defended MS’s decision to not do a Ui overhaul, cause it allowed for all the features and themes and customization to be there from day 1. However it did make it feel a lot like last gen. Sony did a whole new one and at first that was cool cause it felt new and like you didn’t buy the same thing over again but once that wore off it was missing features and themes and stuff gamers have grown accustomed to using. Pro’s and Con’s to both decisions.

@NinjaNicky - Surprised you never heard of it as the avatar was made available the same day as the game launched on PS3, it was a day one release on PS Plus.

@Flaming_Kaiser @Green-Bandit PS4's UI is still light years ahead of the 5's, even after almost 3 years.

@Green-Bandit I just liked the themes i like the PS5 but some things are way worse in the new OS. I still don't know to find where the downloads are. 🤣

@sanderson72 I have to agree I loved a lot of it way better then on the PS5. Removing my option to back up installation of save files is a crime.

@Flaming_Kaiser yeah the new OS is just ok, it’s faster in some cases for me, but it’s not complete feeling in other ways. The Themes is a sure miss tho, i am using the Diablo 4 background on Xbox at the moment and really like it. Maybe Sony in due time will bring some customization to the Ui. 😊

@Green-Bandit I want to find things again I would love for them to just make navigating such a mess. Bring back local backup saves and yes i would like to see themes back again.

@Flaming_Kaiser yeah the Ui is pretty barebones to make launch and not to many updates since. It lacks a lot of basic stuff and makes you press buttons too much for simple tasks. This is what i was saying earlier as a Xbox and PS users, i was actually happy to see the older Xbox Ui come to the new console, as i knew how to use it and it was fully featured. Now that’s not to say the Xbox Ui don’t need improvements or is perfect. I just think making new UI’s every generation is a big ask, especially for Sony as they aren’t a software company.

@Flaming_Kaiser @Green-Bandit The PS5 UI reminds me of the first few iterations of the PS3 UI - a bit of a beta release feel - before that finally matured. At least the XMB is better at navigating than whatever the 5's UI is called.

The PS5, after 3 years of development, is still a total mess with many random button presses to do the same job that took the PS4 1 or 2 to do the same. It's almost as if they looked at the PS4 UI and someone decided that it should't do anything the same as the straightforward, logical UI and replaced it with failed bling.

Themes and actual proper folders would make up at least for the some of the many shortcomings.

@sanderson72 I totally agree I would love the PS4 OS with some of the little things of the PS5 ones. I do like the hints and that movies and games are separated and the speed. How awsome would a PS4 have been with the PS5 speed instead of starting from scratch why not build on the PS4 OS and optimise it with some new features.

@Flaming_Kaiser A Pro with a decent 6Gb/s SSD up its SATA 3 was surprisingly close!

Oh, and another thing, just let us use the browser! The settings are there, you can clear the cache and so on but they won't let you use it!?!??! Grrr....

@sanderson72 you nailed it, that’s how i see it as well. We have seen very very little updates to the Ui, and i still think the cards were a waste. We haven’t even mentioned the store is a complete nightmare. It needs lots of work. I am interested to see if we get any of these updates this year. Cause once the system hits 4 years old, they might as well start preparing PS6 Ui to launch with a smoother experience.

@sanderson72 I have to be honest I never use the browser but the more options the better the removal of a basic option of local backup was the biggest kick in the teeth. The second i get the chance to jail break it to get that option back I'll do it. I never ever did anything illegal but this makes drop that believe.
