If you enjoy the likes of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater but wish it had more feathers, you're in luck. Skatebird has just launched on PS5 and PS4 today, 1st June 2023. Nearly two years out from its initial release, this cute indie title is now available on Sony's consoles for £16.99 / $19.99.
So, what is this exactly? As you can see in the above trailer, it's what you'd expect: a skateboarding game, only with little birds instead of people. You skate through various levels full of quarter pipes and grind rails, building combos and finding collectibles just like in Activision's popular series. Because you're a bird, you can flap your wings to glide and extend jumps. Of course, you'll also unlock new clothing and boards with which to outfit your bird. It just looks kinda silly and kinda fun.
Alongside the PlayStation launch comes one last update to the game, adding a brand new map named Skate Heaven as well as new music and a selfie stick photo mode.

Birdman cameo?
Tony the Hawk DLC will also arrive soon
OMG! Its the game I didnt know I needed, cute Af and it looks like some interesting courses to explore and ride.
I just showed my wife and we both squealed - how sad is that? Sad or not, it going to be downloaded now
I was looking forward to it before it released, but played it on Game Pass and was really not a big fan of the gameplay
@Titntin Yeah, that’s what everyone thought when the first trailers for this game came out. Unfortunately, once people actually played it, it didn’t turn out so well.
I haven’t played myself, but every review or commentary about the game mentioned how bad the controls were. Maybe they might have fixed it in the last two years? I’d still wait for reviews before picking this up blindly.
@Impossibilium Too late! Though I do appreciate your words of caution. I'm not expecting the controls to be tight or endless levels. Hopefully me and the misses get a few chuckles and laughs from it for a few hours.
I'm fortunate in that £16 is pocket change to me, so idea of value is skewed. I wouldn't recommend anyone else buy it cause its cute and they like skateboarding, unless like me they have some cash to burn and are happy to do so for a giggle
Its not like I need any games, I've more than I could play in the next two years. I've only done the wind temple in Zelda, and FF16 is out in two weeks - HYPE!
I hope its not unplayable, I expect to get a little fun from it! Have a great day and thanks for the heads up!
Bird is the word should have been the tagline.
Played it on Gamepass a few years ago. It was pretty bad. Avoid.
@Titntin No problems. Hope you have fun!
I mean for me it felt nice to play, but I had never played a skate game before. I enjoyed it enough to 100% it the same day. Some of the music however wasn't my taste.
When you've got Session, it's hard to imagine playing a THPS-alike again...
