Capcom has been on an unstoppable streak for a good few years now, but its announcement of Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess fell a little flat during not-E3 as there was very little to latch onto. Now, in the aftermath of its first trailer, the Japanese publisher has peeled back the curtain a little bit on the PS5 release.
Firstly, this is the latest endeavour from Capcom Dev 1, the division responsible for releases like Resident Evil and Devil May Cry. It’s being helmed by Shuichi Kawata, who’s worked on a variety of projects, including most recently the Apple Arcade outing Shinsekai: Into the Depths. If you’re not familiar with this underwater adventure game, it was later ported to the Nintendo Switch, but isn’t available on PlayStation platforms unfortunately.
Still, Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess is described as a strategy action title, and we must admit we certainly got some Pikmin vibes from the first trailer. Kawata says Capcom will share “more information in the future”, but for now that’s all we’ve got to go on. It’s nice to see the Japanese publisher experimenting with some original experiences, though, isn’t it?

Gamepass day 1 woohoo.
Also aying ratchet and clank on ps plus for the first time.
Love these services so much.
Excited to try this on gamepass, one of the fave reveals at the Xbox showcase
If it wasn't for Metaphor this game would have stolen the show for me.
I actually didn't get Pikmin vibes from it until now for some reason but I can see it. Awesome.
That poster artwork is boss.
Its a modern day Capcom game so i have high hopes.
Love how it looks, love strategy games.
There's no need for it to be "free" when you have money to buy the stuff you like 😌
If you can be objective, its hard not to admit that gamepass was proven to be even more of a massive value after their showcase.
This is where Phil Spencer was technically wrong in that recent interview. Sure they may not be able to TAKE market share away from Sony or Nintendo, but they absolutely have, can, and will share the market with those that ultimately want to play the big first party and third party games coming day 1 to gamepass and pick up their console or play via pc to do so; in addition to playing bangers that come to PS5. The kicker here is not just exclusives releasing day one on their sub service, but the major 3rd party titles that can be played for free via gamepass day 1 as well, or shelling out $40-60 on the PS platform.
Its really a no brainer for many that play games once or want to try some titles but not shell out the hefty price tag on a gamble.
less than ten games in that price range pay for picking up the other console alone, let alone the ability to play on pc or stream. It's just a massive value despite some bizarre attachment to its profitability for the corporation as some means of justification on the model. There were several games in that showcase alone that I would play on gamepass. Sony not only resists the investment for day 1 releases but is now apparently choosing to lock the ability to use there so far lackluster streaming to the premium tier of their sub svc. This would be fine and great if Sony had a focus on what made them big. Yet generic live service filling out the void between the handful of samey big budget narrative playable movies is certainly not a great look and ultimately will result in a net loss on some front for them, whether that be player base exclusivity, public perception, developer talent, etc.
Following Sony's awful showcase and apparent roadmap, along with Xbox's starkly contrasting future, I am absolutely getting the other console for the first time in any generation, or building a pc come fall (although its unlikely the pc route with the overinflated price gouging in the pc hardware space, and the lackluster performance of nearly all recent games released in the space as of late). That aside, It's a pretty good time for the unbiased gamer indeed.
@GymratAmarillo it's not free, we pay monthly for it. What a strange comment to make. Besides, October will cost me a lot, spiderman 2, assassin creed, alone in the dark, and Alan wake 2. Thank the gaming gods for gamepass and ps plus. Gamepass is great, and it's not going away. Neither is ps plus. We play games where we want and how we want, don't worry about it. Plus with the cost of living, and rent, heating, all that stuff, subscription services are vital for those who enjoy gaming but might not be able to afford new games here and there. You sound almost like Rishi Sunak haha
Strategy exist: Imma head out. I wasn't drawn to the art anyway.
@Scottyy Damn shame about it being a strategy game, I was intrigued by the action and art style personally.
Now I won't ever play it, but that's my choice.
