It's been a very busy couple of months for big game releases, and it seems pretty much everyone has something new to enjoy. It's meant the UK's physical games chart has been relatively competitive, with lots of notable titles vying for spots in the top 10. The latest contender is Street Fighter 6, which lands a second place debut — falling behind only The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Capcom's fighter sold most of its physical copies on PS5 in its opening weekend; 79 per cent of them, in fact.
The game's arrival has knocked most games in the top 10 down. FIFA 23 has moved into third, Hogwarts Legacy is now fourth, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is in sixth place. God of War Ragnarok is back on its way up, however; it's currently number 11, up significantly from 25th.
Here's the latest top 10 in full.

Where did Gollum end up? Curious after it debuted in 6th last week if I remember right
I imagine the digital-to-physical ratio is higher than usual for fighting games. I know I'd only get one digital, whereas I get most single player games on discs.
Seriously, those Nintendo games are selling so good even though quality is questionable. Especially MK8 and AC:NH. I would argue that even Zelda is quite average, but i would get roasted
@Danloaded It isn't in the top 40, so it didn't chart at all this time.
@Darth_Stofi You could argue it - you'd very much be in the minority but you could still argue it!
@Quintumply Maybe it received a negative number with all the folk returning the preorders they forgot about, after reading the reviews!
Great to see Street Fighter doing well. It's my favourite since Alpha 3. Everything is so well balanced and online play is impeccable. Wreaking havoc with the Red Cyclone as we speak .
Didn't SF6 only release last friday, that's only 3 days on the market. I'm sure a weeks sales is 7 days not 3
I've not had a huge amount of time to put into Street Fighter, but very glad it's doing well sales wise, Capcom seem to have put a lot of effort into it so good news it's paying off.
Also, come on, who is still buying GTA V 😂 is there anyone left that doesn't own this game?
I blame the rubbish box art for it not being number one.
In all seriousness it's a great game and I'll be curious to see what it's digital numbers were, as I suspect most will get it that way given how content will be added going forward anyway
@Darth_Stofi the new Zelda is better than most games I've played, whilst MK8 is great fun, Nintendo put out some of the highest quality games regularly
@Darth_Stofi I’m gunna get you after school later.
@Mauzuri Diversity? Really? Does it have anything like The Last of Us, Uncharted, or God of War in terms of storytelling/ mature themes and graphics? Genuine question. To someone like me who used to game on Nintendo consoles, most of their games and franchises seem to be cartoony with decent (e.g. Pokemon) to excellent (Mario, Zelda) gameplay. I could be wrong, but that's the impression I've gotten over the years.
That's actually pretty darn impressive. I really thought, at least in the UK, Zelda was going to be knocked off its perch with the next big Playstation release.
@Darth_Stofi I mean, it's perfectly fine to not like the new Zelda, but it is objectively one of the most critically-acclaimed games of all time. I've never thought much of The Last of Us, but I'm aware I'm in a minority on that front.
@naruball Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon are more diverse than Uncharted, The Last of Us, and God of War.
What's another big PlayStation game? Spider-Man 2, let's say. A narrative-driven, addiction themed game selling itself partially on graphics. What's the next Nintendo game? Pikmin 4. Is anything really like Pikmin?
Saying Nintendo doesn't make PlayStation games doesn't mean Nintendo's games aren't diverse. They both certainly have a brand, but Sony's tends to be more specific than Nintendo's.
Diablo will do the trick, then it's short lived when FF16 knocks that off.
I'm a fan of Street Fighter, so hope this hangs about and gains some new players. It's not as popular as Mortal Kombat, but it's technically one of the best fighter series, maybe only Tekken is above it.
@RoomWithaMoose the same could be said the other way around, just because Sony doesn't make Mario/Zelda like games doesn't mean the console doesn't offer diverse games. This is coming from a Nintendo and playstation fan. And to be honest if you look at the generations after the N64, then PlayStation consoles have a more diverse selection of games. Nintendo is really build around Mario/Pokemon and Zelda, and now and then a game like Pikmin. If i look at my games collection then with every Nintendo console i own most 80% of the games is of those series. There is nothing wrong with that because they are good games. But you can't call out another console being less diverse then Nintendo when every gen Nintendo basically releases pretty much the same games. Zelda ,Pokemon, mario, Kirby, Mario kart, smash bros, Mario sport series
Street fighter 6 selling 87% on PS is crazy high
@Martijn87 I think their point is that Nintendo's first-party published exclusives are far more diverse than Sony's first-party published line-up. Modern Sony platform exclusives are generally a specific sort of game, at least for the big releases, whereas Nintendo publishes games that are pretty wildly different from one-another, like JRPGs, online shooters, real time strategy games, turn-based strategy games, action-adventure games, racing games, platformers, character action games, etc.
@eltomo I don't think so regarding Diablo 4 as Xbox players will most likely be waiting for it to come to Game Pass which'll decrease physical sales.
@Martijn87 Pretty much what Ralizah said. Sony USED to be more diverse than Nintendo, then the PS4 happened. Now the majority of their games seem tailored for a specific audience.
The whole "Nintendo doesn't make PlayStation games" comment was solely in response to naruball. I don't think Sony should make Nintendo games nor should Nintendo make Sony games, and I don't think the lack thereof reflects either negatively.
I might also add that giving Nintendo grief about long living IP is a tired assertion. It's fair for some series, like Pokemon. But the majority are constantly reinvented to keep them fresh. It's the same with God of War; it's not worth criticizing its overuse because modern GoW is mostly different from classic GoW. A series like Halo, however, shows its age with every retread.
Nice to see Street Fighter 6 debut so high up on the charts. It looks like a ton of fun.
@RoomWithaMoose again, you miss my point. If you don't want cartoony graphics, what options do you have on Nintendo consoles? If you want something that appeals to everyone, there are, among other games, Sackboy, Knack, and Ratchet on Playstation.
@G-Unix @Danloaded My guess is that the only reason it even charted last week was due to preorders, from people that preordered based on “The Lord of the Rings” being in the title, or bought it launch day for the same reason. Anyone that read a review — or just looked at a trailer! — stayed far away from the game.
Interested to see where it will place in the North American charts. My guess is behind Zelda but wouldn't be shocked if it takes first. SF 6 is fantastic so it's nice to see it off to a good start and hopefully it keeps going.
Good for SF6 man. Love to see it. Game is just an absolute blast. I can't get enough of it!
@Mauzuri @naruball In my opinion, in terms of variety, the two platforms are pretty equal. It just that the games that are more popular and sell more on Nintendo are family-friendly cartoony games, with the more mature games being less well-known. PlayStation is the opposite, with the epic, dramatic, mature games being the best sellers, with the kid-friendly games in the background.
Good for Street Fighter 6. I spent most of the weekend training and doing combo trials.
@naruball So your point is Nintendo doesn't make games of a very particular aesthetic, even though Mauzuri did point out some Nintendo games that better fit that aesthetic, and, because of that, Nintendo's games are less diverse?
This would make sense if you were just saying Nintendo's games don't appeal to you and why. But if we're objectively comparing the diversity of their output, it's not too relevant. Even speaking purely aesthetics, Mario looks vastly different from Zelda, looks vastly different from Xenoblade, looks vastly different from Sackboy. The only thing they have in common is that they're not seeped in realism — though you could argue the textures and reflections in Sackboy are, actually. And besides, talking purely aesthetics, there's almost nothing differentiating Uncharted, The Last of Us, and God of War apart from setting. So, maybe not the best example of the diversity you're claiming.
My point is that Nintendo games offer a wider, more diverse gameplay experience than Sony. Playing Super Mario Odyssey is almost nothing like playing Tears of the Kingdom. But The Last of Us shares a great deal of motifs with God of War — narratively, aesthetically, and design-wise. They are not THE SAME experience, but line up far stronger than most Nintendo pairs.
EDIT: Also, Knack doesn't appeal to anyone. Let alone everyone. It's also an old, dead IP. I avoided using Nintendo games that aren't currently relevant. Like Devil's Third! Everyone's favorite drunk Nintendo moment.
@naruball in terms of diversity in gaming (different gaming experiences) I think Nintendo still wins. Compare Metroid with Zelda, Brain Age, Clubhouse Games, Mario, Famicom Detective Club, Fire Emblem, Mario Kart, Luigi’s Mansion, Nintendo Labo, Super Smash Bros and Splatoon and you can see that no two gaming experiences are alike.
What the heck that MK8 is doing there?
Let’s just be grateful Nintendo and Sony co-exist and make the different games they do!
@Darth_Stofi why though? What are your arguments?
@dodoo Agreed
@naruball So Graphics are the only thing that makes a game diverse? In that case, if you don't like Realistic graphics, what other options do you have on Playstation?
Beside's that point, I don't quite get how Anime and Cell Shaded Graphics are "Cartooney", especially from games like Xenoblade(That I don't even like but I understand the appeal), Fire Emblem: Three Houses and Tears of the Kingdom that all have dark stories and pretty mature themes.
I mean, @naruball isn't wrong that the sort of realistic AAA Western releases that sell so well on Playstation/Xbox consoles are barely a thing on Nintendo consoles. I think a big part of that is Nintendo being the only one of the big three that's still primarily Japanese. And, of course, it's significantly weaker than decade-old home consoles from the competition, so while games like The Witcher 3 can technically run on it, a lot is sacrificed in the process.
It's a valid concern to have if you're really into that type of game.
@naruball @Ralizah I get both points but it must be said that tonally both companies can be accused (and I don’t believe it to be true) to be a bit monotone. Nintendo also uses the same characters in many games so it’s more aggravating. As far as genre go Sony probably is a little less varied lately but in these conversations we conveniently forget that the first ps5 Sony exclusives were a platformer, a souls game, a cartoony action-adventurer and a rogue-like. So yeah you are both right Imho
All I have to say is Mario Kart. The sales for this game is bonkers! Who doesn’t own it at this point.
Will be curious to see if Diablo 4 can dethrone it.
@Darth_Stofi Using MK8 and Animal Crossing as examples of questionable quality is kinda crazy given those are probably two of the most polished games they've ever made.
5 switch games In the top ten impressive
