The publisher behind Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, coming to PS5 and PS4, will be automatically refunding all physical preorders, with refunds for digital preorders available on request. This comes as Paradox Interactive posted a development update for the game on its website.
While refunding preorders is usually a pretty good predictor of things going wrong behind the scenes, the message, attributed to the team working on Bloodlines, cites updating special editions as the reason, stating: “We remain just as dedicated to delivering a great Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines game as we were when we announced, and are looking forward to showing you more in September this year.
“We acknowledge it was a long time ago that many of you pre-ordered Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. As development continues, we will be updating the game’s editions and bonus content, and we want to provide the best value to those of you who supported us via digital pre-order after all this time.”
The original Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, developed by Troika and released in 2004, is widely considered one of the best roleplaying games ever made, despite being released in a woefully unfinished condition. Set in the extremely adult World of Darkness, players take on the role of a fledgeling vampire trying to survive in a politically dangerous climate, with the various blood-sucking clans as lethal as any militarily trained modern-day monster hunter (there are plenty of those, too).

This gets me more skeptical of the game as they have been very silent on it
I think I could cover the bill to refund all the physical pre orders with the loose change under my couch cushion.
Well, that’s never a good sign.
Look, the original is one of the greatest flawed masterpieces out there along with STALKER but the fact they were both getting sequels was already insane for me. The fact this game seems to be in development hell is basically expected, if it doesn’t launch with heaps of jank and limitless potential then it’s not worth having.
All things considered, this is basically stating this game is dead. Or at the very best being completely rebooted, again.
A Bummer, I had fond memories of the first one.
The original was simultaneously flawed and phenomenal. I'd love to see a remaster on console.
@Deadhunter so would I.
Kudos to them for offering refunds, though someone prob did force their hands.
@Deadhunter I think a remaster or remake would be great to learn how to make it work and run better for a part 2 too.
Why can't we get just one a VtM or Werewolf game without issues. Bloodlines is one of the most cherished PC games ever and the new projects gave us so much hope.
Too bad things aren't going smoothly. Maybe they should have just focused on this rather than a bunch of spin offs.
This article is somewhat misleading as the announcement states that there will be need at the end of September including who the new studio is.
The pre-orders have been cancelled because what will release is significantly different to what people were promised, and the physical items with collectors editions will be different if they even exist.
I'm not worried given how the Discord server has been reorganized and they've revealed a new community manager for the game.
@Khayl would it be possible to include any of this in the main article body? Maybe a screenshot of the linked message for those who won't click through?
LoL I've the original games way better than today's mess LoL pretty much with everything today oh a remake people brought in who has no idea of the original makes a mess. No thanks il just stick with the original. Most new media content I look at isn't mainstream. Todays stuff it's not made for me 😂
I just hope that the price if it will be ready will not be higher that the preorder !
Here's some new screenshots shared on the WoD Discord server, which are described as post-alpha
And here's an update summary for this week from the Community Development person:

I think you're looking at the announcement the wrong way. The important thing here is that the game despite all odds is still alive and they will announce some progress in September. That's great news for us few Vampire the Masquerade fans
I remember looking into the studio they had working on it, all they did was support work for other games. They make fortnite content now.
@dimi exactly. It's kinda weird to me that I'm able to convey so much more information with two comments than the professionally written article above?
