Legendary Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka has announced he's creating new music for a PS5, PS4 indie horror title revealed today: Stray Souls. Said to be inspired by the survival horror series out of Konami, it's apparently releasing later this year, and you can catch a first glimpse in the trailer above.
The reason we say "apparently" is because according to an Xbox Wire post about the game, developer Jukai Studio only "officially opened its doors in 2022". Unless the title was actually being made prior to last year, that's an absurdly quick turnaround. Nevertheless, Stray Souls is designed as "a truly immersive player experience inspired by the classics of the genre. To accomplish this, the team prioritized great audio, and for that, they turned to none other than Akira Yamaoka, whose work on the Silent Hill series is iconic."
In the reveal trailer, you can hear Yamaoka's latest track Splintered Minds. As for the game itself, here is the story setup: "Dive into the mind of Daniel, a teenage boy who inherits a home from his estranged grandmother. As he moves in, dark secrets hiding within the house and Daniel’s past come out of the woodworks — secrets Daniel can't seem to outrun…"

This looks awful Akira music is cool but the game itself looks pretty dire
This looks promising with its atmosphere, but that gameplay is looking rough.
Looks like putting the word "souls" into a game is PR for success (in their minds anyway)
My first glance assumption is a 3/10, but I'd be happy to be proven wrong.
I dunno. It DOES look like they opened their doors last year and are racing this one out the door and the poor composer probably got suckered on the project based on a synopsis and concept art.
Looking forward to see how this one turns out. It’s got my interest.
The game's creator and studio owner is a bigot. Please don't support the game https://twitter.com/bobvids/status/1668268035478528000?s=20
I really wouldn't be surprised if this turns out badly, but it looks cool.

Looks janky, but I'm still intrigued.

@Keyblade-Dan it's a indy game with a low budget
@RUFF_OVERLORD I couldn't care less I'm stil gonna play the game
@Toot1st So was Kena: Bridge Of Spirits and that game looked incredible from the get go what's your point? Just because it's a mid budget indy game doesn't excuse it looking like a bad game
@Keyblade-Dan t kena was no way a indie game is was a AA game with a large budget
