Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, after much teasing, has been laid bare, with Activision releasing an explosive gameplay reveal trailer. A direct sequel to last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, we got a good look at what the next COD looks like, with a helpful writeup over on the PlayStation Blog filling in the gaps.
Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Call of Duty, all 16 core maps from the original 2009 Modern Warfare 2 have been modernized and readied for MW3's launch (along with new ones). Activision says these golden oldies will retain their authenticity while benefitting from the series' more modern tech, modes, content, and more. Not the least of which, there's a new game mode called Cutthroat, a treacherous-sounding 3v3v3 affair.
Perhaps most exciting to our eye, the largest Call of Duty Zombies map yet is coming, where players can team up with other squads to survive hordes of the undead. Modern Warfare Zombies (MWZ), as it's called, will feature missions and core Zombies features in a tense PvE survival experience against some of the largest enemies in the series' history.
Along with another suite of campaign missions, Open Combat Missions purport to change things up. Players can go in guns blazing or utilise night-vision goggles and silenced weaponry to approach mission objectives as they see fit. Both Ground War and War modes will return, with three big maps where Ground War matches will take place. A single, colossal War map has been promised as well, a returning game mode from 2017's Call of Duty: WWII.
