Rockstar Games has today announced Red Dead Redemption is coming to PS4 later this month on 17th August 2023. Its DLC Undead Nightmare will be bundled in, but this is a mere port of the original game. Whilst it was rumoured, this new version is not a remaster or a remake. There is a new trailer, which you can view above.
This is all the single player content from the original game and Undead Nightmare, as well as more bonus content from the Game of the Year edition. There's no multiplayer included. While the digital PS4 version is available on 17th August 2023 for $49.99, a physical edition will be distributed on 13th October 2023.
The only addition this port will have over the original experience is additional languages, now supporting Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, and Latin American Spanish. The port has been done by Double Eleven Studios.

WTF are you kidding me
Hmmm, is this what that Korean game listing pertained to?
RDR is my fave game of all time possibly. I’ll be buying this and playing happily.
"Not a remake or remaster"
Good. A faithful port is all it needed.
For $50 (and I assume 50€ in my case) that's gonna be a pass. Make it 20€ in the future and I'll bite, as I do want to play RDR1 at some point - but I'm not paying nearly full price for a straight port of a 13-year-old game.
Also still in 30 FPS??
£50 for a port = nope. I could just plug in my ps3 out of storage 👍
No increased frame rate or resolution? Even when played on PS5? Seriously? And how could they not be bringing it to PC as well?
Edit:
I just noticed that the PS Store listing has the "PS4 Pro enhanced" label, which makes sense since I believe that is mandated by Sony, so there may be some improvement over the PS3 version after all (at least when played on PS4 Pro or PS5).
Is Rockstar taking the piss?
Kings of the lazy cash-in strike again.
@Orpheus79V 60 FPS and higher Resolution are tho lol
Good grief what a bargain 😂😂
Super duper lame.
Rockstar taking the minimal effort. Kind of a shame.
If its a good port I'll get it on Sale
This seems a bit lame to me, is that fair?.
The lack of a PC port is egregious but tbh i'm satisfied with this. Will grab on sale. Wouldn't be surprised if they were doing this to satisfy hardcore fans and then in 2 years time this will get delisted in favour of a terrible remaster.
Wow 50 for just a port of PS3 game lol. Not going to be surprised when gta6 is announced and it cost 80$ or more.
50 dollars for a straight port and no mp? Rockstar and Taketwo let me have what you're smoking. Unless this makes it to PC I'm good.
Its things like this that make me not excited for GTA6 at all.
They put the switch tax on this version for price parity 😂. But hype either way! Will be waiting for the physical version
Edit: wow this is literally just a PS4 and switch port and nothing else. No Xbox and PC ports, no native PS5, doubtful of any improvements. They really did just throw the switch tax on this version, since this might as well have just been made to cash in on the switch
At least, finally I could play it.
Dear Take-two & Rockstar, Whomever you've shovelled this port off too,please don't Grand Theft Auto "Definitive edition remaster " it like Grove Street Games did!🤞🙏
Sincerely yours,
Players who remember when Rockstar cared about single player games.
The original GOTY Edition of Red Dead on PS3 is still pretty cheap so I'm probably going to grab that instead if I want to experience it for the first time (seriously, $50 for a port?) but it's nice to see it on modern platforms at last given it's recent scarcity.
Boy, it's a good thing I bought the original X360 version at GameStop on the cheap to play at 4K on my Series X.
I also think that the download included the Undead Nightmare DLC (despite the fact I didn't buy the version that included it - but I could be wrong about that).
Owners of the PS3 version should be able to get this for $/£10.
If is food i will definitely get it.i didnt finish it on my ps3.word up son
@RedRiot193 I'd have happily paid £20 for it. I'll wait for a sale, I guess.
@Judal27 That's probably because it has been available on Xbox via Backwards Compatibility for years (and even got Xbox One X Enhancement to 4K Resolution).
I get you're all disappointed that this isn't a remake or remaster, and rightfully so, but this is still pretty cool coming from someone who hasn't played Red Dead yet.
$50 is crazy though.
@Fyz306903 Yep 20 is the exact price this should have been.
@ShogunRok I think they have been for a while now with older games after the remasters of the old games....
I wonder if it's because they are afraid to make any adjustments to the original code since I remember hearing RDR1 is kind of held together with duct tape. Plus obviously the last time Rockstar "remastered" something we got the GTA Trilogy disaster so perhaps they just decided to play it as safe as possible.
At least it will be available on modern hardware other than Xbox though now.
Man Rockstar just don't give af anymore do they? Rolling in that GTA Online money, why bother making anything decent?
$50 just to bring it up to date with the Xbox version via back compat, which runs at 4k, and is free if you own the game already.
What a joke of a price. Rockstar you suck
That is absolutely ludicrous, it’s such a cash grab lol
They're asking $50 for PS3 gen game and they couldn't even pretty it up a little bit?
So glad I stopped supporting R*. They are not the company they used to be.
@GamingFan4Lyf oh then they're not missing anything but a physical edition. Hell xbox might have even gotten the better end of the stick since this isn't even being ported by Rockstar themselves apparently. This was definitely made with the switch in mind lol
@ShogunRok That does seem to be their MO these days.
All they really care about is GTA online.
Absolute cowboys
Strange...couldn't even add RDR2 coat of paint. This should be $20.
@Judal27 Unless you buy the physical X360 version and stick it in the console. 😁
But all that does is download the Backwards Compatible version and the disc acts as an unlock key.
Yeah. I usually don't jump on the developer hate train... but this is nonsense. And to charge 50. That's disrespectful.
You would have thought they would have learned their lesson after the mess the GTA trilogy caused. Maybe all these b.s releases are just there to fund GTA6 and a possible RDR3.
@ShogunRok Yes. Rockstar is clearly no longer the company it was back on PS3 when i felt anything they touched would turn to gold. Now the creative heads have all left, they seem to be geared up only to make money on past glories (RDR2 on PS4 still had the involvement of what was left of the creative team).
This port comes as absolutely no surprise - particularly at that price point.
People do need to manage their expectations for GTA 6 imo. I hope i'm wrong, but i am worried about it!
Rockstar, you really shouldn't even have bothered mate.
I'm guessing Grove Street Games are handling the porting duties...gulp
Wow, the pricing is such a tipo-off. I paid like 10 for the Xbox version 8 years ago under discount once it was made backwards compatible. And they want 50 for what looks to be a port of pretty much the same quality? Way to rip PlayStation users.
@MagisterMagi what, you think this is going to run at 720P? Good joke.
@Orpheus79V 1080p would also be a joke for an ancient Game like this (its native 4K on Xbox). Also it still running in 30 FPS
@MagisterMagi It's PS4 Pro enhanced, so it'll be higher than 1080 on PS5 anyway. The trailer is 2160p, did you even bother to check that?
60fps would be nice, but I also don't care if it has to be 30 for technical reasons (RDR code is supposedly messy). Sometimes giving old games that ran at 30 before an unlocked framerate causes problems.
Rockstar have become an absolute joke, moneygrab after moneygrab, so i keep my expectations about Gt6 to the absolute bottom.
Wow this sucks.
I mean, the Trilogy was a slap in the face but they aren't even doing any work on it this time.
No way I’m paying out if it’s not a remaster, how out of touch are Rockstar!? People are literally waiting to throw money at them for the remaster/remake
Take-Two is so corporate now it's pretty sad. Port aka lowest amount of work + feed it to the 125+ Million Switchs & 100+ Million PS4s + zero mention of current gen + full price = profit.
Larian and Rockstar.
Compare and contrast.
Damn that sucks. No proper PS5, no 60fps?, no remaster and no mp wow. Possibly be £40 or £45 in uk but still no thanks im good. No doubt in 18 months or 2 years it'll be less than £15 in CeX, PS store sale, Amazon deals or even PS Plus Essential/Extra. I've no need to jump all over this and certainly not on release date, no matter how much I enjoyed it originally
no port will be released on xbox
This probably started as a Nintendo switch port. Having it on PS4 so we can play on modern consoles is just a bonus.
Also with all the games releasing from now until early next year I'm quite comfortable waiting for a sale.
Wow that’s lazy. And that price is outrageous.
@JSnow2
Xbox users can rejoice that they don't have to pay $50 for RDR as they can play RDR on Xbox One or Xbox Series X via BC
The funny part is, people will gobble up this crap like there's no tomorrow.
@Orpheus79V no native PS4 Games can output native 4K, 1800p at most. It would need an actual PS5 Patch. A Trailer being uploaded in 4k doesnt mean the Game is lmao
@trev666
RDR is already available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X via BC
Pay us $50 for doing the bare minimum !
I'm sure I paid less for the original game. That's crazy.
Can see why they've not bothered with the Xbox version - back compat probably does a better job.
With the level of effort expected here its a £20 game at a push and I'm being generous with that.
@Dark_Knight does the XBOX ONE version have a fresh set of achievements for it as well. Just curious
What an absolute joke, $50 for a basic port? Why not put it on PS5 and make it 60fps at the very least, this regularly costs a fraction of this on Xbox and at least its 4K
Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Gaming in 2023 ladies and gentlemen
Rockstar sux, this is very lame to charge so much for such old content and not even make it 4k 60hz?
Hard pass, which is a shame...
This would have been perfect for PS + Premium
That’s disappointing. Probably still get it at some point.
@Loamy It is a port. The only addition is new language options.
@Wheatly thats a good point the xbox backwards compat version is 4k will this ps4 pro version be 4k?
Rockstars logic the Nintendo Switch has a 130 mil and the PS4 has 118 mil so let's target those instead and completely ignore latest gen. Lazy money ports
Actually heartbreaking. Not even a 60fps option. But not surprised after the lackluster GTA trilogy.
Well, there are no specs at sight but regardless of that I’m not spending 50$ + taxes (in my country) for a simple PS4 port haha lol. I’m telling you these guys are a bunch of greedy people. Will get it at $15 top.
If that's fifty quid for the original with no frame rate or res increase, then Sony/Rockstar have really reached the bottom of the barrel on this one.
Removed - trolling/baiting
this surely cant be 720p 30fps ?
runs at 4k 30fps on xbox
So it's costs the same as it did when it first released 13 years ago 😂.
Them trying to milk some $$ feels like evidence a remake is on the horizon
I'll wait for a price drop.
Oh well. I'll still see if Digital Foundry can spot any differences and might think about it again then, but not too fussed either way. Rockstar's over-prescriptive mission design is now very long in the tooth - I'll never forget failing a Heist that me and my mates had spent hours on because I missed the landing zone by a hair's breadth at the end of the getaway and failed the mission for the team - and it's clear they're more interested in GTA:O these days over anything else.
lazyness. i expect this port to be littered with bugs as well. not that i plan on replaying this game ever again...
Judging from this forum - this seems like a really popular move with the fans.
@Orpheus79V It seems to run fine at 4k with an unlocked framerate via emulation. You can see for yourself in a Digital Foundry video showcasing its performance in both RPCS3 and Xenia.
A missed opportunity to jump on the 're-make' bandwagon so a right piss-take instead.
Absolute barrel scraping. Was really hoping for a remake within Red Dead 2.
Seriously? I'm massively disappointed.
I just wish they could have just remade it in the second game's engine and merged the two games like the new Hitman games.
Huh. No Xbox?
Missed opportunity but also, not feasible from a development standpoint. Just because it is a remaster doesn't mean it won't take time away from upcoming projects. Yes, their output has been shocking since GTA V but (from Rockstar's viewpoint) imagine taking 3-5 years to remake RDR 1 when GTA VI and other projects are in development or in contention.
What's unforgivable is the state its in, it looks really bad. At least update some textures or something :/
@theMEGAniggle Already runs @4k on Xbox as a back compatable game.
Way too overpriced for what it is, at least it's another big game that's taken out of the PS3 library.
Also cool that the devs from my hometown are doing the port.
Let's hope this means they're putting all their efforts into GTA6.
$50 for a port? Hard pass. I’ll wait for a discount. $30 I would have bought it day one
@theMEGAniggle
They didn't want to re-release the game for Xbox because it's already available for Xbox via BC. I already emphasized that in my previous comment.
Cash in on saps buying this release then remaster and charge again to milk it for all it's worth. That's my cynical view anyway.
I'm looking forward to YouTuber The Professional's rant about this. I love his Rockstar rants.
Like others, I will also wait until the game is £20 or less. More like a tenner, actually.
Needs a sale price on that for me to bite. A BIG sale price at that.
Now if they said you get it free if you already own it digitally l, that would have made the price taste a little less bitter.
Wow, I heard the rumours, didn't expect it to turn up this quickly though! It's disappointing it's not a remake or remaster but, seeing as I have no way of playing this game anymore, I'll take whatever form it comes in. Not for £50 though. Will wait until it's half price.
@Orpheus79V Yeah and I hope they charge as much as if they had put some effort into it. Oh good, I see they are. I was worried that since this is a no-effort port that it might be affordable.
AHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAH. Sounds about right considering Rockstar these days.
a $50 cash grab rerelease.
Well this was the worst possible outcome, not even taking advantage of PS5 hardware by the looks of it. Still, I guess a basic avenue is better than no avenue at all.
This could of really used the upgrade though. It's a classic game that unfortunately will always be overshadowed by the likes of GTA.
It's kinda nutty how RDR is a second class game to them.
What a shame.
I've still got the original PS3 boxed game but I'll just get it in an Xbox sale for about £4:99.
@TrickyDicky99 I guess they had to pay for the devkits so they didn't bother.
this is confusing , because watching the trailer it looks much better then the original , is that not a remaster? also it says ps4 pro enhanced.
Well as a RDR super fan this is disappointing. I will just keep my Series X 360 version. It’s the best version out there and you can get it on sale for $10 or less at times.
Still playable on Xbox, so...ah....Thats a "No" from me Dawg.
I mean I won’t pay them 50$ for it but I’ll gladly pick it up on switch on a sale. I also won’t pay 50$ when it’s just a port and while I don’t think anyone should be celebrating about it I think anyone who’s genuinely really upset should just think “hey what if they did try remastering or remaking it like GTA Trilogy.” And if that’s not enough to make you pause I don’t know what will.
Absolute crap!! Anyone who pays £50 for this shouldn’t be allowed money!! They’re not bringing it to Series X as they already have the 360 version which ya can buy with Undead Nightmare for about £10 or less an it’s 4K on XSX! I’ll buy it on Xbox!!
Cash Grab, hmmmmmm....
I am starting to belive they are over buget with GTA 6 .
GTA definitve edition and now RDR (no upgrade for 50$/€/£ using the ps3 code, the worst version of the game).
@twitchtvpat it’s 4K, that’s all. Still 30 fps.
The game was crash happy before, I’m sure people will see a lot of the PS game error screen. The undead portion is a lot more fun than the campaign.
@MagisterMagi what?a ps4 pro game can output anything up to 4k and a ps4 game can output up to 1080p
Nice. It's great that there'll finally be a way to play it on a modern PS console.
People please don’t preorder, and certainly not for $50
Well at least they learned their lesson from the gta trilogy. Dont fix what aint broke. But converting the ps3 cell broadband architecture to x86 is…. Somethings gotta give. Better to just recontrol the 360 version to ps4.
I'm not giving the clowns $50 or even a penny for this lazy ass job. 🤡
@Rob_230 @ShogunRok Well,saw via twitter & couple of other sites the port is being handled by "Double Eleven" apparently whose other credentials include the likes of Minecraft Dungeons & 😬😵 Fallout 76!!😱
Yeah,that bodes well!😂😔
Rockstar is indeed one of the the greediest companies in the sector.
Given it another thought. It's a win for physical on PS4 and Switch if that's your thing and a win for those that enjoy trophies on PlayStation and might be a less frustraiting platinum overall too with no mp trophies required and thats about it. But yh I ain't spending £40 on release for a lazy cashgrab port, still be waiting for huge sales in late 2024
Please do Max Payne 3 next!
@Dark_Knight there's 100+ comments what made you think I read your previous comment
No remaster, no remake, charges 50 ***** dollars for an incredibly old game. Yeah that's Rockstar.
I’m actually numb. Is this for real …?! Three years into the PS5 life and they port ps3 games to ps4…?
At this point I fear GTA6 will release on Ps4 :-/
Total cash grab.
Loved RDR but I won't be buying this. If I ever feel the need I'll just pop it on the PS3.
Had it been a remaster or remake, I would have most likely went for that.
Ubisoft get a lot of ***** but at least they give FREE next gen upgrades like AC Origins,Odyssey,Far Cry 5.Rockstar couldn't even give us a 60 fps update for Red Dead Redemption 2.So its no suprise really is it there cash grabbing a port.Stop being so greedy rockstar rant over.
The bare minimum product huh, suddenly I think gta 6 won't be as good as the previous titles if all rockstar want is to deliver the bare minimum product 😕
They really have given up on everything not gta 5 or 6 haven't they
I remember a lot of ppl on here saying yeh Xbox has backwards compatibility but who wants to play old games ?
Well it seems a lot of ppl on here do and are annoyed by the price ( rightfully so ), if they added something extra that Xbox don't already do then yes but £50 is taking the **** bigtime for something that anyone who owns a Xbox gets normally
I'm annoyed with Rockstar for another lazy port, but i'm more annoyed with Sony for it's lack of effort on backwards compatibility. RPCS3 is proof the cell chip can be emulated well, but Sony love re-selling you your collection. We're lucky ps5 plays ps4 games to be honest.
@LordAinsley yeah, they can't even be bothered to take the time to make it look like complete crap? weak.
@Martsmall a lot of people seem to forget that PS2 had PS1 bc and even the early fat PS3 had both PS1 and PS2 bc but eventually ended up removing PS2 bc from newer PS3 versions for whatever reason leaving only PS1 on PS3. It's when the PS4 released is where Sony had real issues with bc because of how difficult and complicated they made the PS3 sort of shooting themselves in foot. Xbox backwards compatibilty costs huge amounts of money, meaning it would be far easier for Microsoft to achieve what they've done on their end than it would if Sony done the same on their end with huge differences in bank accounts, but when gaming on the Xbox you don't think of how much it costs to develop Xbox bc and why would you
@Beerheadgamer82 why would consumers worry about how much it costs when we get the upgrade for free ?
Sony could have done it easily with what money they have ,it's not about the cost it's about what the consumers want and as you can see a lot of ppl want red dead and who can blame em it's a amazing game
I shall vote with my wallet and pass. I would spend $20 for a remaster, but $50 for a straight port is egregious on many levels. Sadly, people will buy this. We do it to ourselves.
Honestly, at this point, just be happy we're getting anything. No, this isn't perfect, but at least RDR1 is no longer locked to PS3/360.
@Martsmall completely missing my point to my comment by ignoring the costs it takes to develop Xbox backwards compatibilty, hence why even Microsoft themselves don't do it anymore. When there's a 3rd party day one game on GamePass you don't care how much it costs for it to be day one on your GamePass while your gaming and why would you, hence why PS Plus Extra hardly has much day ones because of how expensive a 3rd party day one costs to be on a subscription. You know if I really enjoy a console over the years I'd definitely love to know about it even more with a little research. Yh Sony ain't exactly what you would call a small company but in comparison to Microsoft then yh they are smaller. Although being smaller doesn't necessarily always mean being in 3rd place all the time
Lamest thing Rockstar has done in a while. Really pathetic cash grab. I wouldn't pay $5 for that port. No effort, no money from my wallet. And to think we were all excited for some great remake or remaster reveal...
@Jayslow "This probably started as a Nintendo switch port. Having it on PS4 so we can play on modern consoles is just a bonus"
You know the fandom has sent the concept of console generations out the window when a previous generation machine is called a "modern console" in contrast to a current gen one.🤔😅
Really? Do you have a source for that?
Because I bet it costs very little. It's the same architecture. It's like upgrading your PC and the old games still work on the new hardware.
PS2-to-PS3 required special hardware, and PS3-to-PS4 was effectively impossible, while XBox didn't have that same problem over the same generations - because it didn't have the same type of architectural change at any point in its history. Sure, they may have had to do a bit of work here or there, I'm not saying it was free - but I very much doubt it cost Microsoft even moderate amounts of money to implement backwards compatibility, much less "huge" amounts.
@nhSnork I just meant we could play on PS5. Only point of this port so we don't have to dust off our PS3.
Since I'm a purist, I hope the resolution and FPS stay true to the original PS3 version
Guess I’m sticking with my PS3 copy. I at least would’ve bought it on Steam for the mods had they done a PC port
Cowboys indeed yee haa 🤣🐂🐂🐂
@RobN no but only because I don't know how to share links via a mobile phone to these comments section, never needed PC or a laptop. A quick Google search never hurt anyone when looking for what you are looking for, it's all there ready for you to read
I'll ask you the same. Do you have source about why Xbox backwards compatibilty is not expensive. If it's cheap in the long run I'd certainly love to read about it and be proven wrong
@hypnotoad
Let’s be honest, all of their effort is going into GTA Online 2.
We are only getting GTAVI because they needed a new city for GTA Online 2.
@Czar_Khastik
That glorious 21 FPS at 640p!!!
Glad I played the Xbox 360 version. Granted it did kill my last 360.
Wonder If it's running in an emulator, like mario 64 in mario 3d all stars? Feels like a crazy decision after the garbage remaster of GTA 3 etc. For a company that takes themselves and their place in the medium so seriously, they sure don't give a toss about their legacy.
@OrtadragoonX Ah, a man of culture as well. 640p21fps is how we roll
@Jayslow ah, I see. Indeed, in this case PS4 may have been a more familiar platform to port to as well.
@MagisterMagi yeah this is. Like. Nintendo lazy.
It's fine that they are bringing it to the PS4, but for $50 is an absolute joke. It doesn't matter though as despite the reaction here, I have a hard time believing it won't sell.
I still have my PS3 copy, but I would have considered getting it at some point to play it all over again with a fresh set of trophies if it was $30 at most. Oh well, it's not like I don't already have a ton of other games to play.
This would make it much more accessible than booting up my PS3. But $50 is too much for a remaster let alone a straight "port". Will wait for a deep discount.
Rockstar was my most beloved game company, up until recently when they screwed up with my favorite games ever GTA trilogy remasters, now they are porting a game which is fine, but for a 50 euros???
I dream for a 2010 Rockstar to come back. Unfortunately it's not going to happen.. still looking forward to GTA 6, hopefully they will redeem themselves, since they are still making the best games on the market. But I wish they would show love for their work.
@R1spam I am with you 100%. It's almost like they are ashamed of their work and only doing because they know it will be an easy cash flow.
Nothing wrong with businesses making money but this is a shameful moneygrab in that Take Two is charging full price for a PS4 compatibility fix that should've been free.
If the game was boosted to 4K 60fps (an easy feat) there'd be some justification for charging for those that want it, but as it is this is shameful. I suspect the Metacritic user score won't be positive.
First y’all complain that the GTA Remasters look trash, now y’all complaining RDR ain’t getting a remaster lol pick a side
$50?!? For just a lazy port??
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
No!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@danzoEX
Seems to me both of those issues are on the same side.
Sub par shoddy work on the GTA "remasters," and now a lazy 1:1 port of a 13 year old game in which R* is charging $50 for, that can often be bought for under $10 on Xbox?
I had no desire to buy the GTA "Remastered" games as I'm not a fan of the series, and I have no desire to buy an overpriced copy of RDR when my 360 copy I bought 13 years ago is playable on modern Xbox consoles.
However, consumers have every eight to complain about this. R* makes Billions, mostly by just re-releasing GTA 5 numerous times and GTA Online, yet this is just being cheap and lazy.
That being said, people will still eat this up just like they did the laughable GTA "Remasters," because far too many consumers simply do not care about being hosed. 🤷♂️
@HotGoomba
Anyone who hasn't played it yet will likely be in for a treat. That said, even those who have never played it should wait for a deep discount in my opinion. This is grossly overpriced for what is being offered, despite being a great game.
@theMEGAniggle
You may not see, or read this, but the way comments are laid out in Push Square/Nintendo Life/ Pure Xbox is horrible.
It makes trying to follow along in a conversation an absolute mess with needless scrolling up and down. I find it extremely annoying for what are otherwise great gaming sites.
MGS: Master Collection Vol. 1 truly puts into perspective how bad of a value and lazy this $50 RDR1 port is. The entire collection retails for $60 and gives you seven games along with digital soundtracks, artbooks, comics and strategy guides. Sucks to see Rockstar giving its legacy games shoddy treatment yet again.
Rockstar gotta be Rockstar
@JSnow2 I think you nailed it. Huge base there. Switch only folks will eat it up at full price (no disrespect) and PS fans, whether they shell out at full price or sale, are all gravy. They can count on the hate subsiding when they get around to a decent release.
Absolutely ridiculous. I know I have no right to tell anyone how to spend their money, but people, let's not start a new trend of developers just porting games with little improvements.
Hard pass. With it's vast resources, R* could have made this into something special, something worth 50 bucks. Instead, we quite possibly got the laziest cash-grab they could squirt out.
So basically what Xbox has but way more expensive? Shell stick with my Xbox copy then
it's wild that the ps4 is getting so much love and support nearly 3 years after the ps5 launched. there are no signs of it slowing down either. i would say it has another 2 years left in the tank which is quite impressive. there have only been a handful of ps5 console exclusives as publishers are too afraid to leave the ps4 behind haha. what a strange console cycle this has been. i do wonder if rockstar is secretly doing a proper red dead remake for ps5, though? hmmm...
also, if this ps4 port has to be downgraded for the switch to be compatible, i would say that it will be on par with the original ps3 version without much in the way of improvements... maybe a slight bump to the resolution and a more stable framerate perhaps.
@AgentGuapo Even Nintendo at least scales up the textures a bit and adds some extra Stuff lol
@Kang81
On Xbox, Red Dead Redemption costs $30, Undead Nightmare Pack costs $10. The PS4 and NS version should have cost $40, not $50 because on Xbox Red Dead Redemption + Undead Nightmare Pack costs $40, although you have to buy the Undead Nightmare Pack separately.
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/red-dead-redemption/BWKLFHWT7DHC/0001
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/store/undead-nightmare-pack/BV8STWV74V3N
@DennisReynolds Its worse since it doesnt include Multiplayer and might not be native 4K
@RobN
Why doesn't Sony make an emulator for the PS5 so that we can play all the old PS games on the PS5 via the emulator
@x3King84
As long as enough people buy Rockstar games, Rockstar will act that way because they know enough people will buy their games. It's our own fault that Rockstar behaves like this.
@theSpectre
The only thing missing is the PC version, but I don't understand why Rockstar doesn't want to announce RDR for PC
Rockstar is now just a money grab of a company.
Even the main writers and the original creators of rockstar jumped ship.
We then got a awful GTA Trilogy we 0 care or love for those games.
And now we get a lackluster port to last gen consoles.
So I have a few points to make
When are we going to let the ps4 die...
Why isnt this and red dead 2 not being bundled together as enhanced versions for PS5.
We shouldn't support lazy developers for that price point.
I'm sorry but when we live in an age now where we have
Demon Souls PS5
Dead Space PS5
Control PS5
The Witcher PS5
Mass Effect Trilogy Remake
True remakes of Resident Evil 2,3,4
Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater Remake incoming PS5.
Then the crown jewel of developers Rockstar. Announces 3 years into the new gen consoles life cycle a port of a ps3 game to last gen hardware. For nearly the same price as these other remakes.
They truly are just money grabbing again
As someone who never played this on the PS3, I’ll take it!
@Kang81 honestly it's horrendous, just make the replies linked in a thread and it improves 10000 fold
Wasn't it on plus or essentials not too long ago, yeah you had to stream it but if you wanted to play it you could. Hard pass for me.
Can someone tell me if I buy this from the PS store on my PS5 can I play it
Bully is better anyway.
@Orpheus79V If it's not 60FPS with a upgrade in resolution what's the use.
@Corellian11 Yes you can.
@Bez87
Demon Souls PS5 was a massive upgrade it was a night and day difference. I bought a PS5 for that alone.
Dead Space PS5 come on that one was also a night and day difference.
Control on PS5 also playing it on the new console was so much better.
True remakes of Resident Evil 2,3,4
Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater Remake incoming PS5
Remakes or remaster done great can really elevate a older game. If they give me Syphon Filter with new controls i really forgot how bad the control were on PS1. 🤣
Yeah, no.. I own the original game + the DLC on my PS3. I might buy the physical version in the future on a sale.
Just another useless release to make quick buck, with as less work and dedication to the original as possible, and priced outrageously. Because all of the previous similar cases worked brilliantly...
It seems that someone forgot the pandemics is over, and new games are aplenty, especially now that the summer nears it's end.
What a waste of a good opportunity to bring this good game back in stile...
@Sneakyfox yeah, I doubt I'll actually get the old console out. I'll most likely just not play it, as I'll be buying other games instead. I've played it two or three times before. Whereas if they brought out a version that looked a bit like RDR2 I'd pay £70 to relive the game that way, no problem.
@Dark_Knight Why doesn't Ford make an emulator so a Mustang can haul a load like an F150? Because they're fundamentally different and it's difficult to make one behave like the other.
We're spoiled with the PC era where things changed surprisingly little in many areas - chips just got faster and added more functions, but are fundamentally the same x86 architecture for at least three decades (except for Apple, who went from Motorola to x86 to ARM). That means reach generation added more on top of the old generation, it didn't throw it out and start over - the old ways of doing things were still there or emulated for compatibility. That's the XBox hardware and software (Windows DirectX) in a nutshell, too.
PlayStation did custom chips, and the one in the PS3 was a beast unlike anything seen before - or since. It had different limitations than other environments and excelled in specific things, but it was built differently. Read some articles about how developers had to learn new ways to code to get performance out of it - it wasn't just a PC with a brand logo stamped on it. Trying to emulate something that's built and works differently is a lot harder than something that's basically the same, just slower and missing some features.
Now, how much time and energy and money do you want Sony to throw at building that emulation, when they could be spending all that on making new games or new hardware? How much money will that investment return to them?
That's why.
@Sneakyfox the rumours, and the reasons for them were dumb. I still thought they'd eventually do this as a remake though, it's something I've always thought. Might as well just give up hope now though 😅
@Dark_Knight
For a base price, that's ok. It's still a bit hard to swallow that price due to how often it's been on sale, and how cheap those sales were too.
It's still a great game and I recommend playing it, but for a simple port, I feel it should be cheaper. Lots of different opinions on that though.
@Flaming_Kaiser exactly my point.
Literally all of them have been completely remade from the ground up for PS5 some selling at the 50 mark new.
Yet the 1 company who are making billions off of a single game, gta 5.
Cant be bothered to put in some effort and a literally small change to them to get a team to work on making red dead 1 and 2 parity on the new consoles and sell them.
They dont deserve my money for it
@Bez87 And I can except a barebones remaster if the price is right but you can't have it both ways.
@Flaming_Kaiser totally agree a literal port to a out of date console, should be 20 to 30 at most.
I'm pretty sure rachet and clank when it came out was only 50 maybe miles morales was 50.
Wasn't the witcher 3 ps5 version 50.
Like where in the world did they get the figure that 50 is appropriate for a literal port of an old game without enhancements when we've had so many great remasters or remakes
@Bez87 If a company deside to make it available to gamers this way no problem just price them accordingly. The Final Fantasy games had way more effort put in them at a lower price.
@Flaming_Kaiser your literally adding to the list of great remakes or reboots whatever you want to call some of them, which cost around the same or less than this.
