Delta Force is a series of military FPS shooters which began all the way back in 1998 and came to PlayStation with PS1's Urban Warfare (the fifth game in the franchise). Creator NovaLogic shuttered back in 2016, and its assets were acquired by THQ Nordic, which in turn, was swallowed by a bigger fish, the Embracer Group. Now, a pre-Gamescom teaser has revealed the series will live again and is set to be fully revealed at Gamescom's Opening Night Live.
Producer Shadow Guo spoke to IGN and said that the game's campaign would follow the classic Ridley Scott war flick, Black Hawk Down. In addition, Delta Force will support large-scale PvP multiplayer, featuring combat on the ground, sea, and air. Guo outlined what's on offer, stating:
"Our team has extensively studied the movie and delved into the historical context respectfully. This dedicated research enabled us to recreate a truly authentic and immersive gaming experience that captures the essence of that monumental event. To create a grand atmosphere of combat on ground, sea, and air, we designed a variety of methods for engagement and maps that integrate diverse terrain features such as vertical height differences and caves, as well as different vehicle routes.”
Do you recall playing the Delta Force games on PlayStation? Are you surprised to see the series return or that it would focus on the events of Black Hawk Down, or more accurately, the Somali Civil War of the 1990s? Let us know in the comments section below.

Feel a bit like they should just stick to fake conflicts like the Modern Warfare games or Battlefield. Same problem as that dodgy Fallujah game, it’s way too fresh not just for soldiers but for the many civilians killed or displaced. Lines get muddier the more recent the conflict is, funnelling that into a shoot the baddies game is a recipe for disaster. Every second game 20 years ago was a WW2 game but at least they could guarantee that we all knew exactly who each side were, what they represented (on a base level) and who won. Much easier to dumb down. Ask the target audience for this game the motives behind the Somali Civil War and they won’t know a single thing. Dumbing down a nuanced ongoing conflict for an audience to understand without severe misrepresentation of the facts is borderline impossible.
Can I play as Chuck?
Looks pretty good from that short clip. The film is brilliant, if they can capture that atmosphere with the same attention to detail it might be a decent shooter. Nice for COD to have a bit of competition anyway.
Damn it, GoldenEye N64 cover! Now I'm expecting the rest of the Delta Force cover dude's face to look like this too:
Power-ups in what once was a realistic shooter, no thank you.
I will stick to the OG classic Delta Forces.
Looks surprisingly decent from what little was shown. COD and Battlefield need a solid competitor, imo. Def worth keeping my eye on it.
I hold very fond memories of Black hawk down and it's sequel, Team Sabre back on PS2. They were by no means amazing games but I met many long term friends which ultimately made the experience so much better.
I'd be interested to try this out purely because I sank so much time into the original games
I remember this game getting yanked from shelves during it's controversial release in the state of Maine. BIG debate at the time as refugees were facing backlash from the locals, and racists organizers were throwing rallies at the state capital. It eventually got put back on shelves, but what a wild time.
