Turn-based sports game WrestleQuest has been pinned at the eleventh hour, with developer Mega Cat Games announcing that a bug causing "players to lose their save game progress" was discovered during final checks. WrestleQuest was previously slated to launch today, 8th August, and is now expected to launch on 22nd August.
The studio released a statement announcing the delay, which reads:
"When performing final checks on one of our launch platforms, we discovered it was possible for players to lose their save game progress when playing WrestleQuest on multiple different devices. Because this is a game filled with hours of content and player progress is so important, we could never bodyslam our fans like that. We are truly proud of this game and believe that we have a product that delivers on all counts. We’re blown away by the support we’ve seen from players excited for WrestleQuest, and we can’t wait to share the finished game with everyone on August 22."
You don't see it every day, but it sounds like the last-minute delay hasn't hurt the devs' confidence. WrestleQuest looks great, a hilarious sendup of turn-based RPGs and wrestling both, and we hope the team tracks down that pesky bug.
Were you planning on picking up WrestleQuest today? When was the last time you remember a game being delayed on launch day? Let us know in the comments section below.

Birthday present from me to me then 😄
Even if I have no way to verify what they say, the fact that they say it so candidly is fantastic. Companies have to understand that customers value honesty and transparency, at least I personally do.
After years of gaming plagued by botched releases, this is refreshing.
If this was a major IP, from a major studio, they would just release the game and try some PR spin to explain why they big is actually good for the gamer.
Probably helps that there isn't a physical release (as far as I'm aware), so isn't already ready for collection in stores etc.
Another Chokeslam to the release date. I'd rather a delay than release a broken game. Prevents another Curb stomp to the consumer.
Bah gawd what have they done?
Thanks for not just releasing it anyway. Most would have.
This is going to be so much fun
Disappointed as I was going to buy this today and play it; HOWEVER, this is breath of fresh air. Odd how speaking to gamers with respect and honesty seems to be going over well...
This looks like a purchase for the Switch, prefer this style, non action in handheld mode.
Could this be the Golf Story Successor we all want and deserve, but never got?
For anyone that doesn't know this is also part of the Netflix games collection.
