Cyberpunk 2077's free 2.0 update is out tomorrow, 21st September, with its Phantom Liberty expansion following shortly after. While there's no doubt CD Projekt Red stumbled out of the gate, a gaming launch that will live long in infamy, those willing to give the title another shot will be rewarded with a vastly expanded experience.
While it's perfectly possible to pick up where you last left off, CDPR recommends you fire up a fresh save to get the most out of the changes over the course of a playthrough. For those who were patient enough to wait, you've got an incredible journey ahead and one that can finally be enjoyed without reservation.
Will you be firing up a fresh Cyberpunk playthrough? What are your plans for Phantom Liberty? Let us know in the comments section below.

Not 100% on this yet as i've got so many games on the go right now i don't know if i want to replay another big game. Guess i will decide tomorrow.
I wish they would just drop the update already. Curious to see what has changed since release almost 3 years ago (I hope a lot)
Where‘s the PL review gone?
So they finally finished the game huh... a 3 year delay but I might actually give it a go!
So, part a joke a part not, but I think that people who play games at launch are usually f*cked. Why? Because if you play a game a year later you have all the bugs fixed, 60fps modes added, etc. I am honestly starting fo play games with delay. It does not matter anyway when you do, the experience that you will get is what does.
@Sergo well worded but people do like the excitement of playing day one, regardless of performance issues.
I love waiting for games to drop in price and by then the performance has been sorted as you mentioned Sergo 👍🏻
@Sergo And these games often become quite cheap when they are in good shape. But there are also first-party games which run like a dream from day one. Why should you wait to play Zelda TotK or GoW Ragnarök day one?
Luckily I was planning on doing that anyways. Only played it for the first time last Christmas but its gone on to be one of my favourite games of all time. Couldn't put it down
Don't really have time to get my character's xp and street cred levels up on a fresh save in the time between 2.0 and Phantom Liberty releasing. Will have to see what 2.0 does to my existing saves. It's not that I don't want to play the whole game again. I have played it entirely 3 times. I've never done that with an open world game before but I love Night City, the story, the characters and the gameplay. I wish all these updates happened earlier in the year at a quite gaming time, instead of releasing at the beginning of gaming season.
@Max_the_German
My guess is they accidentally uploaded it before the embargo.
For years I have this game installed on my hard drive. Since day one. I have waited and waited. Saw the game being updated again, and again, and again. And I've waited. Not fired the game even once. Never did.
Now... the wait is finally over. I'm gonna play this beast of a game.
How unfortunate that we lost, these days, the use of the "complete experience" available on day one, on the actual disc. I think that maybe Square Enix is among the last companies to ship (some of) their games in a really finished state (say what you want about FFXVI, this game was polished as hell. FFVII Remake also).
Got it and hardly played it so this is perfect for me. Will play with 2.0 before i buy any expansion tho to make sure i like it first.
@Max_the_German Seems the embargo is 4pm BST (8am PDT / 10am CT / 11am EDT / 5pm CEST) they, along with a few other outlets, seem to have released early. The fact a few did this seems there was likely some miscommunication around, though take that all with a pinch of salt, it's an assumption.
From the little I saw it looks like it was getting glowing reviews.
Can’t wait! Gonna have my first play through this weekend now
Not sure if I’m allowed to do this, but once something is on the internet it will always be on the internet.
Push Square Cyberpunk: Phantom Liberty Review:
https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:eIYV6-1Yb_gJ:https://www.pushsquare.com/reviews/ps5/cyberpunk-2077-phantom-liberty
I’m one of the unlucky few who got their mits on this awful game at launch on PS4. Let me emphasise the at launch bit. When it was relaunched on PS5, I thought let’s give it another go. First thoughts wow how things have changed for the better and many improvements all round. Now with update 2.0 coming tomorrow I’m definitely giving this game another go. Night City I’m coming for ya. A game that started out in infamy, now many will be celebrating and enjoying a whole new and better experience. Oh and Keanu Reeves at his best.
Never played it but it’s on a long list.
I originally planned on already doing a second playthrough in time for Phantom Liberty, but seeing what all of the changes were going to be with the update, I decided to wait.
Even though I've had Phantom Liberty pre-ordered for months, I'm not sure when I will get to play it as I'm not sure when I will get to my second playthrough. I'm still playing another game and I don't want to start it and not be able to finish it before Spider-Man 2.
Regardless, I am really looking forward to a return trip to Night City and then eventually playing Phantom Liberty given how much I loved my 1st playthrough last year.
I started this on release, PS5 then went into storage. Picked it up again a few months back. Looks like I’ll be starting again for the third time, though thankfully never got far.
7th playthrough coming right up.
Release First
Fix Later
Modern Gaming.
That was the plan. Can't wait to jump in again.
I'm done the main story, so I'll do some of the side quests to check out the changes before I get Phantom Liberty.
No NG+, no chance of that happening
Hell no, I’m not sinking another 100 hours into this. Plus, I don’t wanna give up my collection of Unique Legendary weapons. I might give the DLC a whirl but with the release schedule being what it is plus an enormous backlog, even that is uncertain.
Should be a fun dive back into Night City. A fresh start is what is needed to play 2.0? No prob choom.
@Max_the_German Because the chance is much higher that they will be better in due course. Admit that there are just a few that are great at day one.
@Luigia Yes, this is true. Dont get me wrong. I am not happy that in most cases i am right.
@Sergo your too modest and see you in Night City 👍🏻
Ugh that's a tough one... mainly because I played through CP to the end and sunk quite a few hours into it. There is a case for a fresh playthrough though. I'd be 100% sold on it if they'd added a third person mode to the game but I'll just have to hope the sequel ticks that box 🤞🤞
@Pixipantalon My thoughts exactly. I've no interest in starting over after the hundred or so hours I put in doing most everything in the game. But with third person mode, I'd start a fresh game faster than lightning. Hopefully the sequel does have it.
@Nebbuless yeah the absence of third person really was a bummer for me especially after The Witcher games... and I believe the original version of CP2077 which was in development until 2016 was in fact a third person game. Apparently they switched director during the development cycle and changed everything.
In this era of games, having both third and first person options shouldn't really be a stretch considering it's been around dating back to Skyrim, and especially in games where there's character creation and extensive cosmetics/customization.
I REALLY hope CDPR feel the same way for the next Cyberpunk game. If nothing else, it would increase their player base because it caters to everyone in that regard...
@Pixipantalon I did hear about the perspective switch during development, which is still mind boggling to me. It may be an unpopular opinion, but nothing about CP2077 screams first person to me. It's so much less immersive and more restrictive not being able to see the world around my customized character, not having cutscenes with my character in them, etc. SPOILERS: I was floored when I saw the only real cutscene in the entire game before the end credits. It looked so awesome.
Absolutely agreed on everything else. I can't imagine why it wasn't an option to switch between perspectives, or even just force first person perspective for conversations like Fallout or Starfield.
Here's to hoping that with the new engine and all the newfound knowledge CDPR has, they'll be able to provide more features like third person mode in the sequel.
And they couldn't add NG+?
