When it comes to the best PS5 games, Guerrilla’s sprawling open world Horizon Forbidden West is right up there – especially when you factor in its excellent Burning Shores DLC. And it looks like Sony is plotting a re-release of the game for its new-gen console, which will include the expansion out of the box.
A rating in Singapore, spotted by ResetEra, reveals an upcoming Complete Edition of Aloy’s sophomore outing. Additional information confirms this is indeed a compilation featuring the original game and its post-release add-on pack. While the PS5 is currently the only listed platform, some are speculating this version could also release on PC – especially as it’s been nearly two years since the title debuted on console.
We suspect Sony will officially announce this bundle in due time, and it’ll likely become the primary way to purchase the title moving forwards. Remember, you can still read our Horizon Forbidden West PS5 review and Burning Shores PS5 review through the links, and we have a full Horizon Forbidden West guide as well.

It’s a few weeks past 18 months since release. It’s arguably nearer a year and a half than two years.
Highly recommended, one of the best games this generation so far.
I really didn’t like this game. It took me a while
To warm towards the first one but then I loved it. I couldn’t wait to finish this one. I find the world really boring and bland
All through my playthrough I couldn't shake the feeling that the story had jumped the shark, but as a game it was enjoyable.
However, once you notice that Aloy sighs as she delivers every single line of her dialogue, you can't un-hear it.
@Boucho11 There were times when I was thinking ’Man, this is a 10/10 game’, but then there were also times when I thought ’I don’t like Aloy, and the story is awful’. On the whole, it’s a 7/10 game for me. Glad I stuck with it and finished it though.
I need to just go back and power through this game. There's surely something I'm missing here, but after around 30 hours I still haven't found it. It's everything I've grown to loathe in an open world game, and it released around when Elden Ring came out, which is exactly what I want in an open world game.
The story is bad and very cliche at this game. The game ends in a very unspectacular and anticlimactic fashion.
Gameplay and exploration is cool though. I played the game in PS4 launch model and the performance was surprisingly very good. Hope the PC version is Steam Deck verified.
@The_Pixel_King yes that’s how I felt. I quite like Aloy as a character as I said in my previous post, I find the world boring.
@Constable_What this is how I felt too!
The first one was a really good game, can’t wait to play the sequel
> And it looks like Sony is plotting a re-release of the game for its new-gen console
What new gen console? FW came out on PS5 and its rereleasing on PS5 again? Im confused.
@KillerBoy
I was massively disappointed, i loved ZD, but FW was weird. While the combat was absolutelly amazing i didnt like the story one bit.
Everyone treats aloy like a second coming of jesus and it gets boring real fast :/
There is no character arc for aloy whatsoever.
Definitely one of the best, felt like a true next-gen console playing this when I bought a PS5 last year being tired of waiting for games. Was very impressed with gameplay, combat, facial animation and enemy variety. Made me realise what I was missing out not playing PS games.
Horizon Zero dawn 9/10
Horizon forbidden west 6.5/10
@TabulaRasa It's amazing how we all see these things differently.
Been playing games since the 80s and personally I feel like I've never had as much fun gaming as I have in the past few years.
If you're not enjoying PlayStation I suggest giving Nintendo or XBOX a go. Or if you're just not enjoying gaming in general, maybe take a break from it for a year or two. I've had to do that in the past and enjoyed it much more when I came back to it.
Ps4 had horizon zero dawn complete edition.ps5 is like why not us.yeah not surprising that horizon forbidden west complete edition is in the works.word up son
@trev666 I generally agree with you and others, 1st one is 9/10 but the 2nd is a 7/10, for me.
Something about the second one that just didn't live up to my hopes. Maybe it's the fact that I already knew everything about the world.
A lot of the wonder from the first game was when I first stumbled into a cave underground and saw all that technology.
We also had Aloy develop as a character in the first; in the second, like someone said, she was well known and always treated like a god.
And the dialogue from Aloy was kind of annoying. She talked way too much, was always sounding down, and gave hints about what to do within 10 seconds of showing up to any new area.
I don't know what they will do in the third game, but I hope they can recapture some of that magic, wonder and mystery from the first game.
Game was dreadfully boring I’m out for Horzion now. I don’t see this reaching the sales of the last game.
Some seem to forget or dont realise HZD 2017 is Guerillas first attempt at open world and I thought it was top tier. For a first attempt at open world Guerilla did it better than many that have been doing open worlds for 20+ years. Sequel HFW obviously looks better plays better and I didn't mind the story at all but wanted a little more from the final mission. Loved HFW gameplay enemy variation. HFW is just pure quality overall. Burning Shores story expansion was fantastic too. Also Decima engine. Adore the world of Horizon and really looking forward to what's next in this world. Never once got bored of main Aloy and I think she's absolutely beautiful and not fat in anyway
@TabulaRasa I thought I was growing away from it too tbh, but my issue turned out to be fomo - I was trying to play every game that topped the charts or that everyone else was enjoying without considering if it was something I would enjoy.
I burned out, didn't know what I wanted to play and ended up not enjoying anything.
These days I'm much better at listening to my gut and skipping the games that don't excite me. I enjoy it all much more as a result.
I borrowed HFW. It wasn't as good as the first one, but I wasn't disappointed since they tried something a bit new with the story. I'll wait for the complete edition to get much cheaper, so I can play the DLC.
@Shepherd_Tallon
“ If you're not enjoying PlayStation I suggest giving Nintendo or XBOX a go. Or if you're just not enjoying gaming in general, maybe take a break from it for a year or two.”
To that I’d definitely add give VR a go. Towards mid last gen I was getting tired of gaming after 30+ years of it being my favourite activity. As soon as I jumped into VR it was like the first time again. Everything new, fresh, and exciting. Honestly, I wouldn’t recommend someone get Switch, and certainly not the very similar Xbox, if they aren’t enjoying the PS5. I’d recommend PSVR2 all day long.
>best games
>horizon
lol
@Vacuumator technically of it a few weeks past 18 months, it is closer to two years than one though
This is one game that left me with zero interest to go back to this world. I enjoyed my time with it, but unlike Ghost of Tsushima I don’t have the slightest urge to do new game +, or dive into much of this world. Can’t nail down why either, just overall it wasn’t very appealing to me I guess.
Didn't enjoy it at first, ended up loving it.
It's by far the most disappointing Sony exclusive this generation imo, and the only one I didn't finish. Different strokes I guess.
Maybe Aloy's constant repetition of "I'll save this for later." Had a subconscious effect, outside of driving me nuts.
Hopefully leaks like this suggest a state of play is coming
@thefourfoldroot1 Fair shout.
That first time I tried PSVR, it really was like playing games for the first time again.
It was the Last Guardian VR demo. It was a very basic demo, but the instant the area loads and you get that sense of presence you can't help but think about what the future of VR will be like.
Jump forward a few years and we've already got all of GT7 in VR. When the sun reflects off the dashboard and you have to squint your eyes irl so you can see the road, amazing.
I enjoyed the DLC way more then the full game, that said I hope Guerilla is working on something else. Would love a Killzone reboot or remake, it's time for Horizon to rest at least for a bit
Still haven't played the DLC yet but this is one of my favorite open world games on the PS5. It's been a while since I played an open world game and audibly gasped at how beautiful the environments are.
And don't get me started on the underwater. I was so hyped with that.
"Excellent Burning Shores"
I'm still trying to understand what made it Excellent. Frozen Wilds did a better job of extending aloys journey. Burning Shores felt half hearted attempt to do that and give a love interest no one asked for.
While I enjoy exploring the many tribes of Horizon, this latest entry got us involved with a people in the framework of the game that I had no love for at the very start. Unlike the tribes of horizon zero dawn, where the people could be separated from their leaders, these guys were straight up tyrants. Except the guy leading the lost part of that expedition. We spent very little time with him. Leader of the sundom got more time then this dude got to show a different side of his people. Story wise it was just weak, especially since this entire game seemed to imply we'd see more of them. Kind of hoping we're at war with them in horizon 3 and they are as mindless about following nemesis as their own rules.
Gameplay didn't do much for me. I expected something more on the scale of the casino in Vegas. We never got that. Also gonna go out on a limb and say the Hollywood sign would be gone by this point in the story. Stage layout was more obnoxious than clever. What's his name showing up in a side quest was nice, but it would have better to have teamed up with him than what's her name to give the player something to latch on to. Again reflecting back to Vegas. A real zarthras of horizon imo.
Burning shores was a burning waste of time.
As far as traveling companions, I felt she was an annoying rubber stamp of aloy. Putting aside how the dlc ended. People put hype into her, but she just felt out of place 90% of the time. Like a character introduced in Naruto filler episodes, which would end a "you're just like me" moment. Honestly feel like they could have made a better enemy character out of her and foiled out her people a bit more. Everything else about her felt forced and one dimensional. They could have modeled her more after the woman from the hunting lodge, would have been more interesting. As I said that is putting aside the ending. Horizon 2 and now this dlc has me wondering if I should take a pause before buying horizon 3 at launch during another crowded release season. Seems the quality has gone down. That isn't even getting into the mess horizon 2 was in at launch.
There has been a slow decline in quality with Sony first party releases that has me concerned.
@TabulaRasa it isn't and I'd say you've short circuited your own fun if you think it's been weak. Middling maybe, but with ff16, returnal, God of war, and many other great games in the last 2.5 years. I'm hesitant to call it weak.
Horizon 2 wasn't as good as the first I'll give you that. It's DLC didn't win it any points even without the pandering controversy that didn't serve the game or its story in any meaningful way.
So something is slipping at sony. But we've gotten some real tigers from 3rd parties and lesser known sony studios. As well as new sony acquisition insomniac games.
@Boucho11 same, the dlc is equally as disappointing compared to frozen wilds. Though I loved the first one almost immediately. I don't know what changed, but everything just seems less, over burdened, not well thought out, and way over extended.
@Constable_What let's hope it doesn't become elden ring. They are two different styles of open world, I absolutely hated elden ring, yes I did finish it. I'm not defending forbidden west either. It lost something zero dawn had that separated it from everything I hated about open world. Forbidden west introduced other problems. The biggest glaring issue is that she's in race against the clock story wise. Every 5s she has "hold up a moment" interruption. The director or actor had no idea how to preserve the tension and frustration of alloy behind her sighing constantly. The fetch me quests become intrusive. The whole "let's do a perspective puzzle " didn't fit this games atmosphere. Not too mention to many of them. Weapon up grading and armor upgrading as well as stats had not only become convoluted, but gave no easy path to start experimenting from the start to help the player understand why they should even focus on it. Another starfield like example of 'we expect you to spend time with this in the end game and not at the very start', this is bad game design and it's also what got ff13 in a lot of hot water with its fan base.
I did eventually end up enjoying forbidden west, but it was missing that spark and introduced some plot threads that felt forced. Wouldn't say it jumped the shark, but it got dangerously close. Carry Ann Mosses character being one of the least interesting and most forced aspects of the game. Half the time I don't even think she knew wtf was going on. They were trying to be clever with a twist that was so heavy handed that it never really arrived when it did. I also don't think she should have been cast in this part. She wasn't convincing in the matrix as trinity and she wasn't convincing here either. If they had to go with a actress to nod, I'd have chosen Lucy lawless since she has managed to make that sort of character work in shows outside of xena.
Something was off with this game and I have a few thoughts, but I wonder how much of it was change in leadership and corporate de&I influence.
Of course there gonna re-release it sony want your money...take take take 🙄
An excellent and underrated game, especially when you compare it to this year's narrative turkeys (FF16 & starfield)
I'm so glad that Sony's only release this year so far during one of the greatest years in gaming, 1 DLC, is getting a re-release. I was worried Sony wasn't going to show up for this generation. 🙄
@GreatAuk You can get rid of the hints in the setting I think with a update.
Absolutely loved Horizon Forbidden West. For me, it's easily one of the PS5's best games.
I hope we get a God of War re-release for 2024.
I guess they will take this off ps plus extra soon. Why would you buy this if you all you need to buy is the dlc to get definite edition now?
Personally, I enjoyed Zero Dawn so much more and thought that Aloy was rather annoying in this sequel.
Is it really one of PS5s best games? I doubt it.
A lot of people didn't like it like the first game.
I didn't even enjoy the first game and never completed it.
@Cashews that would be awesome.
I think God of War turned into a second Horizon.
And same as Horizon, I didn't enjoy the PS4 God of War and didn't buy God of War
Ragnarok.
I really miss the classis God of War with this perfect mixture of joyful Gameplay.
I hate this big exploring, crafting ***** they made out of it.
@NotSoCryptic I think you nailed it on why I love Elden Ring, and don't like FW.
FW is BLOATED. It's uninspired. Exploring is joyless as there are map markers everywhere that take all of the surpise out of finding things. The story is so far up its own ass I would have thought it was satire if it was insistent on taking itself so seriously.
It doesn't need to be Elden Ring. Elden Ring is already Elden Ring. I just don't find FW's open world, characters, and story at all compelling after my time with it...
I absolutely LOVED this game and the Burning Shores dlc! Definitely on e the best looking PS5 games and playing in 60 fps was fantastic. 😁
It took me years to get round to playing the first game. I just could not get into i but when i found myself at a loose end i started to actually enjoy playing it and by the end i really enjoyed it. I just can't be arsed even bothering with the 2nd game and jesus aloy looks like she has been to see the same plastic surgeon as simon cowel..
@Northern_munkey I do believe you've made the right choice there. I didn't like the first one very much, ended up getting the plat after maybe 50 hours but was still very hesitant to play hfw.
Ended up not even being able to beat it after 20 or so hours.
The games are beautiful, play well and very original in some ways.
But at the same time they're just, lacking, somewhere?
Apparently a lot of people feel the same way, on here at least.
And yh her face does look odd, there was even an article on here talking about it. Turned into what you might think it would though lol
One of the best PS5 games?
Nah. It’s good. But it’s not great. At least from a gameplay loop standpoint. And the story is real meh sauce.
Visually speaking it’s still the best looking game ever made in my opinion.
@ApostateMage
I think that’s because she actually had a character arc in Zero Dawn. A pretty good one at that. You saw her turn from an insular and very introverted character who was mistreated by her society at the beginning into someone who was willing to accept help and became a team player by the end. It was a simple character arc but it was decently written.
By comparison in Forbidden West there is literally zero character development for Aloy. And everyone acting like they wanted to drink her bath water got old really fast. She starts as a smug Mary Sue and ends the game as a smug Mary Sue. She’s never challenged in any meaningful way and she gets everything she wants.
@NotSoCryptic
A lot of it comes down to poor writing. Guerrilla has always suffered with a sub par writing team but what made earlier games, both Killzone and Zero Dawn work was that they had relatively uncomplicated storylines and very simple character arcs the cast. They knew their weaknesses back then and they built their game plots around that.
For Forbidden West they decided to go for a huge Hail Mary storyline play. And their writing team just wasn’t up to the task. Forbidden West has a very complicated story. But because of writing problems they weren’t able to explore it naturally and thus were forced to rely on common cliches and forcing events in a weird fashion.
Plus they didn’t even try to go for character arcs in the second game. The only character who saw any real development over the course of it was Sylens and to a lesser extent Varl. But even then it was so forced and unnatural.
@GreatAuk
Honestly I wish they would take a break from Horizon. Make another Killzone game. Get a new writing team assembled. Let them practice with a new Killzone campaign (I think a full reboot of the franchise would work) and then take that experience and apply it to a 3rd Horizon game.
Man, there are some strong opinions on this game. Personally I do find it amazing in many regards: the technical ambition, gameplay, creativity and design, story is alright as well... but for some reason it still doesn't reach me on an emotional level, no matter how hard the story tried.
@Shepherd_Tallon Same here. I’m shocked how most people I see online say this generation is lacking. I’ve been having a ton of fun. Games look amazing, run well, and feel great.
There are obviously some stinkers in there but for the most part this is one of my favorite generations for all platforms. The visuals are blowing me away and I think the games are just super fun. Maybe I’m just getting older but whatever lol ¯(ツ)/¯
@Altaria_97 @Shepherd_Tallon i agree. Personally this gens been pretty good for me so far. I've enjoyed a lot of great games so far and i've really enjoyed replaying a lot of my ps4 games in the boosted modes. Here are some of my fave games so far in no particular order..
Elden ring
The ascent
Diablo 4 (i know really)
Mw2
Godfall
Outriders
AC:valhalla
Demons souls
Borderlands 3
Hogwarts legacy (game of the year)
I have not however enjoyed the constant remakes and ports that were really not needed but it is what it is i guess. We still have a lot of great games on the horizon and once devs start focusing soley on ps5 games and stop the cross gen forced parity its only going to be better. Its never been better to be a gamer no matter what your chosen platform is.
@species "KACHING KICK IN THAT MONEY BIT@@@&S!!!"
Horizon as a series for me is just a 6, sure i do admit both games are visually stunning in many ways. But I never had fun playing them other than looking at the beautiful artwork. The story is just awful, found it hard to push through the second game. Even the first one took me a while as after 8 hours in i merely finished it to get the trophies and see the ending as i was hopeful the story would start to make sense and become interesting to me. It did not. For those that like the first game and somehow didn’t already play the second game, this would be a good pickup. Just not for me.
@Northern_munkey we are 3 years into the PS5 almost and we have a list with maybe 8 games on them. This is almost blasphemy and beyond sad on a lot of levels. Ive never seen such a lull in a gaming generation such as this, devs have ran out of ideals, because games arent pushing the envelope, its all about making money and keeping gamers occupied. Just like a little baby in a crib, put a crib cycle above their heads, that makes noise and moves and keep them engaged until they fall asleep. Its crazy to me. I see my ps5 friends playing last gen games, or just sitting there idle not even playing any games. Horrendous console with a mediocre list of games that define it...
Do folk on this site understand the fundamentals of making a big triple A game these days? They take forever!
@MakersMark each to their own i guess. There are a lot of us here that are happy with the ps5. There seems to be an awful lot of people who only complain about how bad the ps5 is and how sony is only bothered about how much money they can make from the consumers (it is a business after all) yet they still frequent the comments sections and still buy games for their ps5's whilst still shouting about the evils of consumerism and corporate greed oh and my fave new byline "predatory practices." Yes we are almost 3 years in and so far there has not been many exclusive ps5 titles and cross gen development and endless remakes/remasters etc have seemingly hampered and taken a bit of the lustre out of it so far but its still been a brilliant time and an awesome experience for those of us that actually are enjoying ourselves and looking ahead. You are entitled to your opinion and i'll respect it so please respect those of us who are loving our console of choice.
@Northern_munkey so very well said. I used to game on Nintendo consoles and when I realized that Nintendo games weren't doing it for me anymore, the last thing that crossed my mind was to make an account and comment on Nintendo focused sites. That makes no sense to me. Unless people want to act like some old people who yell at everyone else because they're unhappy about their empty lives. They can always focus on something they actually enjoy. To bash Sony so severely and so frequently and still frequent push square sounds like masochism to me.
It can’t be that bad of a game, I never got into it but it’s rated higher than Starfield over on Metacritic and Opencritic.
@naruball yeah there’s definitely some people with a screw loose on here. What gets me is if you go over on PX there are some people who comment that Sony is terrible and how PlayStation fans are the worst and yet they’re over here trolling.
@General_Disarray doesn't surprise me. I do hope they find some happiness in their life outside gaming one day. Maybe that would help.
@naruball I’m so glad to have hobbies and things to do outside of gaming.
@Mikey856 seems they have.
Also the cost is increased massively. Other comments refers to running out of ideas, but studios and devs can be only one bad game away from financial ruin.
@MakersMark your entirely subjective opinion is just that, subjective.
There are plenty of people who are finding this gen to be fantastic and enthused with what’s coming down the pipeline.
You could always stop buying games and sell your PS5 if you feel so strongly about it.
I'm a bit late to the party, but I reckon I'm about 50% in on Forbidden West. My thoughts so far is that the game is a stunner and the gameplay is improved. However, Aloy has become very unlikeable and the story definitely isn't as engaging as last time around. But the game got a lot better once you turn off the hints and disable all GUI clutter and just move around the world at your own pace. Too bad Aloy still can't shut up about giving hints every 5 seconds, it's driving me mad!
@naruball thanks 👍
Nice of Sony to finally complete the game. Shame it's not complete on PS4.

@TrickyDicky99 But it released during this generation on this generations console and had DLC for the PS5 only.
@TrickyDicky99 broken record right here.
Highly debatable. I thought this game was dull as dishwater, the dialogue was atrocious, the story was a boring re-hash and the core gameplay was EXACTLY the same as the previous game.
Cringeworthy
@TrickyDicky99 and the obsession continues.
@Boucho11 totally agree ,loved the first, this one bored me to tears and now I can't stand aloy ,and her miserable face,hope guerrilla make something different next.
@PixelDragon yeah, she's a bellend
@TabulaRasa
Technically not even a PS5 exclusive as I beat this on my PS4.
@MakersMark i still have my ps3 🤣 and its bought not "brought."
Yeah, I'm guessing this'll be getting a PC port sooner than later.
Will definitely pick it up on Steam.
I loved the first game. I even got merch which is rare for me including the Art Book that was limited to just 300 copies worldwide.
I was looking forward to the sequel but there was just something missing and it took my nearly a year to finish it. I got the DLC but only played the opening section where you get to the main hub island and haven’t touched it since.
I felt the same about GoW:R too. I hope I don't feel the same way about Spider-Man 2 next month...
The second game didn't have the same overall impact the first one did. But sit was still much better than other similar games, like AC Valhalla...
Burning Shores DLC was ok too, but a bit less than the main game... it felt rushed, they threw some ideas and new characters in there, but didn't take the time to develop them properly...
Here's hoping the 3rd entry will be better, that the devs manage to close this trilogy with a proper bang.
It's sad that Lance Reddick is no longer with us to bring life to Sylens one more time... won't be the same without him.
Still on the 3rd game subject... I hope the devs don't make it even bigger than the 2nd. But concentrate instead of filling it with meaningful and impactful stories, quests, puzzles and activities, and a bigger enemy and weapons variety. Bigger is NOT better, if it's mostly empty and bland.
I've tried 3 or 4 times to finish this game but i get bored with it so quickly.
Great games.
Forbidden West not as great as ZD, but still great game. Cant wait for the next part.
@Mikey856
That wouldn’t be so bad if the games felt inventive and fresh when they finally release.
That’s a real rarity these days honestly. Last time a somewhat triple A game really hooked me where I was cracked out on it and never got tired of it was Returnal. And that’s mainly because it felt like a PS1 or Sega Saturn game with today’s graphics and production values.
It wasn’t necessarily inventive but it was fairly fresh considering all the overly bloated open world games that also want to be movies (that rarely works; open world progression doesn’t really gel with very linear story lines) that permeate the industry. And the same old same old sequel.
What I really enjoyed about it was how it told its story. It was mostly environmental storytelling and inferred motivations. Rather than spelling it out in insane detail with movie style story telling it felt like a game that would have felt at home on the Sega Saturn with how it told its story.
@OrtadragoonX I dunno man. I think you may. Be putting waaay too much thought into it tbh. Games are games enjoy them for what they are. It’s hard to make something original when everything has been done over and over
The game never quite sat right with me. ZD was good and I could get through it, primarily because it was a mysterious and curious world where you would spend time gradually unravelling its secrets. FW was a sequel, following the sequel bait of its predecessor, and it was just an unnecessary game overall.
I also never really got how Aloy is such an appealing mascot to so many. She always struck me as flat and emotionless. Needless to say, I couldn't complete FW. I can't see a scenario where I'd find myself playing the inevitable third entry either. One was enough.
