Attention, soldiers: Helldivers 2 is now available to pre-order. Published by Sony and developed by Arrowhead, this is a third-person sequel to the top-down original, and has you blasting away the bad guys in tactical four-player co-op. A new trailer has been released to give you the gist: cool weapons, aliens, robots, and friendly fire combine for what should be a very fun co-op title.
It's still a few months away, launching 8th February 2024, but you can now pre-order it to ensure you're there from day one. You can get a physical copy via PlayStation Direct (with other retailers to follow, presumably), or you can opt for the digital version via PS Store or Steam. Whatever the case, the standard version of the game will set you back $39.99 / £34.99.
There is a digital exclusive edition called the Super Citizen Edition ($59.99 / £49.99), which includes the following alongside the base game:
- ‘DP-53 Savior of the Free’ Armour Set
- ‘Will of the People’ Cape
- ‘MP-98 Knight’ Weapon
- Super Citizen Status
- Stratagem Hero Ship Game
- ‘Steeled Veterans’ Premium Warbond
Whichever version of Helldivers 2 you go for, you'll be rewarded the following armour sets for pre-ordering:
- 'TR-7 Ambassador of the Brand' - Promotional armor made by SUMY Corp. as part of a highly successful marketing campaign for frozen yogurt.
- 'TR-62 Knight' - Crafted to deliver Justice to the darkest crevices of the galaxy.
- 'TR-9 Cavalier of Democracy' - Bearers of this armor ride no equine mount, but are nonetheless borne to battle atop the trusty steed of Liberty.

£34.99 is a lot cheaper than I expected considering they sold Returnal for £69.99. I hope it doesn't reflect a lack of confidence in the product.
Giving pre-order rewards is a really scummy tactic to coax more people into buying before they know what they'll get. At least there's no early access shenanigans with this game.
Not a bad price but should have been free with plus due to the increase price. Also a lot of people thought it was going to be 70, so at 40 it's 30 cheaper so now we know why plus was increasd lol
Good that Sony are messing around with the pricing scale again this gen.
Last gen the likes of R&C, Uncharted: LL, WipeOut & more ‘smaller’ first party games released at a more budget friendly price.
Maybe if Immortals of Aveum had launched at a similar price tag they wouldn’t have had to close down half the studio.
I'm surprised they went with a $40 price. That's way less than what I was expecting. I will more than likely pick this up day one now. I'm also surprised there's a physical edition.
@Fight_Teza_Fight And not released it sandwiched between great and loud games. It was so poorly timed.
@ChrisDeku lately the lower price game usually reflects size and quality, example AC:Mirage ...a return to old, meaning one city few small off areas, but no true exploration in comparison to origins/valhalla. So this helldivers game I expect maybe 20 hours, then the rest is dome repeatable raids and then dlc/live service, so overall "cheaper" games give me pause for buying
Day 1. Will be some dumb fun with friends
This game will likely be very fun and that price is quite enticing!
Pleasant surprise to see it for $40. I loved the first Helldivers, but am disappointed the sequel isn't a top down twin stick shooter any longer.
Everyone on here’s talking about how nice it is that this game is $40 when I for sure thought this would be F2P.
Recently got into the first one. Good fun and i like the difficulty, stratagems and overall great game
Please don't take this the wrong way, I'm very excited for Spiderman 2 and just started playing FF remake in anticipation for the second one, but this game right here looks like a nightmare glimpse into PlayStation future. I worry that they're going to be so focused on chasing these types of games that we're going to be lacking proper serious PS quality exclusives. Even FF only getting 3 months exclusivity indicates a changing of the wind, and with Gamepass basically farming more active players it feels like Sony are chasing the numbers. Am I being overly worried? I hope so. Because Spiderman 2 is going to be awesome but at the same length of the first one, followed by this? It feels off
@Pikachuuuu So the first Helldivers, made by the same studio and published by Sony 8 years ago was ok. The sequel getting made is a nightmare glimpse into the future though? How does that work?
@ChrisDeku live service type of games, as they stated before, which would suck. My comment explains why I think its, well worry, it's a glimpse into a bleak future. To put it bluntly, this looks mid, and cringe, but mostly I'm worried about Sony's lack of first party roadmap. This game looks like a free to play, something I would expect on Xbox. This is my opinion, so don't get all defensive please. Had enough of reading everyone's bickering
P.S my comment really did already explain why I feel it's a nightmare glimpse into the future so I don't understand why you're asking me
@somnambulance I worry this is how it starts. Playstations step into live service games, offered up cheap enough, instead of F2P, and at the cost of having less single player experiences. They're chasing the active player numbers it seems. I really really hope they still create first player experiences. Can't wait for spiderman 2 at least, and playing the FF remake now. Only.just managed to get off Starfield haha
I thought it would be free to play
probably will eventually
@Pikachuuuu Last gen they had fortnite and rocket league to print money..This gen they have to find something to stick..I wouldn't worry about ps5..Tons of great games to play..3rd and 1st party.
@Pikachuuuu The first Helldivers was a Live Service game, published by Sony and with the exact same tone and atmosphere. They were already making this game 8 years ago. It isn’t a glimpse into some future, but the past.
The first party schedule looks slim because they haven’t revealed those games yet. What is Nintendos first party schedule past the first half of 2024?(what would their schedule have looked like before they revealed Super Mario Womder only a few months ago?) Companies with strong track records don’t need to throw everything out into the open years in advance, that’s a sign of weakness.
@Pikachuuuu The only thing is that sales are indicating that more gamers want strong single player experiences. When you talk about successful games this year, you’re talking about Hogwarts, TotK, RE4, etc. and last year, Elden Ring and Ragnarok. I don’t think many corporates realize the amount of people that will be alienated from gaming if we continue down the live service route. I know, for myself, the less single player games I have, the less I’m playing. Thankfully 2023 isn’t the live service wasteland some of us fear, but that may be the trajectory of 2024.
Ohhh this Pikachuuu guy is a concern troll who created his account 10 minutes before making his first post here about how this game represents a nightmare glimpse into the future of a live service wasteland.
@ChrisDeku I think 2024 will be dry

@Pikachuuuu You have also commented on PureXbox about playstation so I take it you're an xbox player as well? So what's the difference how Microsoft are also creating a lot of live service games? Halo, Forza, Redfall, Grounded, Sea of Thieves, Elder Scrolls online, Minecraft, then paying for exclusivity on some popular live service games like Roblox, PUBG, Palworld and Ark 2.
Yet what do playstation have? Destiny 2 which they have not long bought. You can't be fine with one company doing it and not another. Sony are literally only just getting into live service games and they will be relying on them going forward since Microsoft have just bought call of duty and can take it away from playstation in the future causing sony to lose a lot of money. Sony will still create epic single player games like they always have but in between you will also now get a few live service games.
I'm actually quite looking forward to this, looks like some hectic fun and played the hell out of the last game on the Vita so seeing it take a huge step up in it's direction is great to see.
What I would suggest to people though is just because Sony are the publisher this is not a first party AAA blockbuster they are known for. It's created by a third party indie developer hence the lower price as its an indie game.
@SgtTruth Do not tell other people what to do. Your not there boss.
@UltimateOtaku91 I hate live service and am.worried Xbox will get too big for. It's own good and ruin gaming, like you said, Sony are only doing Live service because the acti deal, which is terrible. You'll see on pure that I said I believed Jim Ryan too. But why am I justifying or explaining myself? Sorry, but so what if I play both? It's fine I'm done with this site, clearly it's too radical. Been playing games since I was 3, had PS all.the time, just got into Xbox too, but if this how PlayStation fans want to treat another PlayStation fan just because they have different opinions then I can't do this, world is too hateful and nasty as it is, I don't need this mental space. I'm sure you'll have something snarky and that's fine. For the record I love PlayStation, I also love xbox. I hate how both companies are heading toward more live service games and actively pushing each other toward the cliff. Use to feel like fair.competition now all the fans are calling for either console to die, I hate it and I hate that people are calling each other trolls for enjoying both consoles or for.simply voicing their opinion.
@Pikachuuuu I can't remember being disrespectful to you in my comment 🙁 especially didn't call you a troll.
I was simply pointing out why Sony are making live service games and that they are way behind Microsoft in the amount of live service games. I just thought it would be fair to call out both instead of just sony as you are a multiplatform player.
Also this game isn't made by Sony it's made by a third party developer, Sony are just the Publisher, Sonys live service games will look and play better than this.
The thing to also remember is that the majority of console owners are casuals, people that buy a playstation or xbox just to play online games like call of duty, fortnite, apex legends and Fifa etc, there are way more casual games than us hardcore gamers that like mostly single player games. But it's only fair that sony make games to cater to all gamers casual and hardcore, make single player games for me and you and online games for the people that want it 😁
Well priced, good move Sony 👌
Not renewing my ps+ so was very pleased to see this on PC too, the gameplay demo looked fandabidozie.
Sign me up!
This is day one for me.
