Sony has revealed its next State of Play livestream will take place this Thursday, 14th September 2023 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST. The showcase will focus on "updates to previously announced games coming to PlayStation consoles", which includes indie titles, third-party experiences, and upcoming PSVR2 hits. A run time wasn't announced in the post on the PlayStation Blog. Given the wording, it seems safe to say there won't be any PlayStation Studios games featured.
"Tomorrow’s broadcast will focus on updates to previously announced games coming to PlayStation consoles. From indie and PS VR2 highlights, to major upcoming titles from our third-party partners, our latest show has something for everyone," global third-party relations director Shawne Benson writes. "Here at PlayStation, our vision is to be the best place to play, and publish, great games. And because there are thousands of developers and publishers all around the world constantly making great games, our team has their work cut out for them."
As always, you'll be able to catch the livestream right here on Push Square, and we'll cover all the news out of the show on the site. What games do you hope to see? Share your predictions in the comments below.

Not even telling how long it is? I have a bad feeling about this tbh
Oh boy, Lol a complete reaction to Nintendo I love it. They are sticking this one together with bubblegum and broken dreams. This one has great potential for anger...I feel it's presence in the force. Updates to old announcements gd this is going to be funny.
Oh, my word. This is NOT what Sony needs right now. First. Party. Games. Sony, please explain to me why I need a PS5. I can play these games literally anywhere else. Why Playstation 5?
oh sony.. why do you suck so much sometimes .. just why.
why cant you just make a great show. with all 1st party exklusive masterpieces that are lightyears ahead of the competition.
it would be so easy
Assuming we’ll get one focused on Spider-Man 2 soon. Hoping to see a few things between this and Nintendo
3rd party focused? They're gonna show an even more extended look at Suicide Squad! lol
Hoping to hear more about Stellar Blade at least. A Nintendo Direct and a State of Play on the same day, should be fun.
Also hopefully people will not overreact to this State of Play since it's Indies and Third Party Games, I say that and know people will but here's hoping.
I also assume their not showing first party games because of Spider-Man, so that Spider-Man is the main first party focus. Once this is over Tomorrow they hype train and trailers probably start for Spider-Man.
Realistically I'm hoping for FFVII Rebirth, Talos Principle 2, Low-Fi and maybe Stellar Blade.
Obviously many of us want PS Studios stuff but Sony aren't interested in doing big info dumps on their games now, select titles are only going to be shown when there ready.
So third party games which will likely be available on other devices? Why are they hiding first party games so much? They don't seem to want to give people a reason to actually own a PS5 anymore.
Oh this will DEFINITELY go over well. Following up a Nintendo Direct on the same day with no first party announcements won’t end badly at all.
15 minutes of the Gran Turismo - Blu Ray Steelbook Edition
Didn’t the last presentation get dragged because of a lack of 1st party games. Why just third party games in this one? Where are all the first party games???
Yawn. How boring.
It’s about time we saw little devil inside again
@B_Lindz If FF7 Rebirth is shown that's a good enough reason 😋
pragmata and a proper ps5 slim announcement would make this worthwhile. anything else and easy pass...
Even more PSVR2 games. Let me catch up before releasing more will you!
@Amin1998 Been developed on. I don't know what your expecting when studios like Polyphony Digital, Guerrilla, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Firesprite and soon Insomniac will have released a game in the past 18 months.
Only London studio, Firewalk, Insomniac's Wolverine and possibly Sucker Punch are the projects furthest along.
Always keep your expectations low. At least after this, it will be the Nintendo Direct so there's something to look forward to in case this SoP doesn't deliver (which I expect will be the case for most of us)
EDIT: nvm, this one's after Nintendo Direct. Still, there's something to be hyped about even if this one fails
Eh, truth be told I'm more interested in third party games at this point anyway. When it comes to PS Studios the only thing that'd get me really excited would be a second Tsushima game.
Hopefully some news on Stellar Blade at long last? Maybe Rise of the Ronin while we're at it. I'll keep my expectations low, at any rate.
Wait, people actually expected a showcase? Literally every single rumor was regarding a state of play. This could be great. Rise of the Ronin, Stellar Blade, FF7 Rebirth could potentially show up
@Amin1998 Thats what happens if you focus in AAA Games which take 5 years to develop and dont invest in new Singleplayer Studios
@AdamNovice I have absolutely no hype about the future of Playstation because we have barely any idea about future games that will be released for the PS5.
Yes, games are being developed, but saying that doesn't generate any hype.
All Playstation seems to care about at the moment is overpriced hardware and increasing prices.
Very confused by this.
Some shocking PS Plus news to announce or something?
Otherwise what is the point in this.
@Amin1998 Maybe because Sony's first party games are hit by delays as it was rumored ?
Actually, why go up against Nintendo and the inevitable Cyberpunk 2.0 announcement on that day? This is such a bad call by PS.
@itsfoz probably to announce they are pushing back the Spidey 2 release date because it shares it with Mario Wonder. "We want to make sure people experience the best game possible."
@itsfoz Contract obligations.
Show me Stellar Blade and FFVII Rebirth and I'll be a happy clam.
@itsfoz Cyberpunk is on PS5
"Our latest show has something for everyone" except playstation fans
@lightningbolt79 a reason to own a ps5?Are you joking?there are plenty of reasons to own a ps5 as it is. Just because this show isn’t what you wanted you ask is these a reason to own a ps5.Not my type show either. I’m smart enough to know sony will show what’s coming when it’s ready. And it will be great as usual.
@lightningbolt79 Announcing a game that's years away can have the opposite effect though.
@Ninerguy1608 At last someone with a bit of common sense.
Looking forward to being disappointed!
Tremendous use of resources to promote games that will launch multiplatform instead of showcasing why people should own a PlayStation 5.
FF7 Rebirth, Stellar Blade and Silent Hill 2 news and I will be happy.
Think maybe we get something 1P at TGA but I would suspect otherwise we are not getting a showcase or anything until early next year.
@truerbluer they are spending a few hours putting this one together.
My predictions:
>Alan Wake II
>Assassin's Creed Mirage
>Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora
>Naruto x Boruto
>FNaF Help Wanted 2
>Arizona Sunshine II
>Teardown
>The Talos Principle II
>The Foglands
> Journey to Foundation
I'm keeping my expectations SERIOUSLY low for this one. If we're damn lucky, we'll get a new look at Stellar Blade, but I'm not holding my breath.
@AdamNovice Tears of the Kingdom? Starfield? An example of a sequel and a new IP that generate tonnes of hype despite being announced years before their release. And both games have been received very well (yes, even Starfield. Despite the slightly odd online reaction in places, mostly from PS fanboys, and the review bombing, the game has been a success).
@RBMango MK1 is out when this state of play runs
@AdamNovice you mean someone who agrees with you.
Common sense has nothing to do with this. You just can't stand people being negative about Playstation here. Burying your head in the sand and pretending many fans aren't happy doesn't help.
@truerbluer FFXVI I’d third party and not playable on anything else, so is Bloodborne
If they show FFVII Rebirth and announce Half-Life Alyx for PSVR2 I’m a happy man…
Really Sony thats it? 🙄🙄🙄
@AdamNovice I would think Bend and Bluepoint should each have projects that are quite further along by now.
@MinotauroBJJ I forgot they had the 5 days of early access for the premium editions.
FF7 REBIRTH TOMORROW!!! Woohoo!!!
@DennisReynolds third party Don’t mean they won’t show triple A titles
@Ninerguy1608 if these games release on other systems, which most will, why buy a Playstation? Why not buy cheaper alternatives that have certain features the PS5 lacks.
A reminder of what happened at the last showcase. Xbox tweeted about all the games that they were also getting, which was a lot. If I was a consumer and there are no PS5 exclusives on the horizon (or very little) why pay for that when I can get the cheaper Series S which would suit most people, and has extra features like quick resume and the superior Game Pass?
And by the way, I'm not turning this into a PS Vs Xbox discussion. It's just an example of why PS really needs to be careful because at the moment, it is clear people have little hype about the future of PS and if they are lacking exclusives, why buy the expensive PS5 in the first place when alternatives exist?
@ygorapBFR well considering PS GERMANY teased that people are going to have a reason to put FF7 Rebirth on their wishlist soon 2 days ago, it’s likely we’re getting a trailer
@Ralizah you’re going to be a happy clam then
Arrowhead isn't owned by Sony so I could see Helldivers 2 appear here with a release date (Death Stranding appeared in a 3rd party State of Play despite being a PS Studios game).
As for the closer I'd guess it'll be FFVII Rebirth with a release date, I hope we see Gold Saucer.
I got a baaaaaad feeling about this
@Ninerguy1608 Well said sir, i picked a ps5 because it plays all my ps4 games and for the exclusives when they eventually appear are on another level to everything else and i have every faith that will continue. When will people start seperating their brain/arses from their keyboard fingers and accept the fact games nowadays take a long time to make and that we are not long out of a global pandemic which seemingly according to some didnt affect game developers and studios. Go play Redfall if its instant "gratification" you require
Armchair analysis based on Sony's previous statements and what we've seen.. I think behind the scenes Sony have gone hard on Live Service, really hard, they mentioned 60% of current titles we're live service, but i'm wondering if it's even more? At the time this seemed to be where everything was going but sentiment has shifted. I think Sony might have been absolutely mortified at the reaction to Suicide squad and are potentially in a position where they are trying to rework some games and start a bigger single player shift. All of this takes time thus so much silence.
Sony were actually perfectly positioned to capitalize on the great single player resurgence/renaissance it's what they had been doing to great success, It had been their bread & butter, but instead of waiting for the moment to come back around to them they chased trends. The equivalent of FOMO, holding a stock that wasn't doing enough then selling it to go and chase a green candle.. only to find out that they bought the top and now the stock they sold was pumping. The sentiment on live service games has massively shifted past two years with realization creeping in that the model might be unsustainable.. and that epic single player adventures are possibly a safer (thought not as lucrative) bet, plus they have a long-tail sales wise.
I think there's some real sweating going on behind the scenes with the massive bet on live service. Just speculation, I actually have no idea but a hunch. But the complete silence on 1st party output whilst MS slowly gain ground is telling.
@RBMango no problem, I’m super excited for tomorrow. All this news and when I get home from work I can play mortal kombat
This could be good, but it’s also about time Sony shows us what they’re actually working on. Right now, FF72 (and DS2 hopefully) are practically the only scheduled 2024 games I’m interested in on PS at the moment.
@Sequel You might be onto something with this. Sony has put A LOT into live service. I don’t think they expected the backlash from the Sony Showcase and I also don’t think they realized that live service games would be literally failing left and right this year.
@Sequel Microsoft is actually losing ground. They were doing best when PlayStations were not available. They need more than Starfield which I’m hearing is actually quite disappointing
Stellar Blade release date? FFVII Rebirth before TGS as well- so that’s a lock.
Sony is not going to have a first party showcase just before Spider-Man 2 comes out.
Would take too much attention away from it.
There’ll likely be a Spidey 2 SOP just before launch as well.
Keeping my expectations very low for this, so I won't be disappointed.
@somnambulance Yeah they got to where they are with these amazing cinematic games, I hope they never forget what got them there.
I have no expectations regarding games for tomorrow, and don't mean that in a form of slight. I accepted a while ago that Sony is taking the L on first party announcements this year, so the third party and indie focus is no surprise. They're getting consoles out like wildfire, and can show their studio's work closer to launch as their hardware sales grow. It makes sense (from a business perspective, not for us fans).
What I DO expect is to get some update on the service as a result of that price hike... I'm biting the same bait as Grubb that Sony will reason this with a major update of some sort. If not, then that's a bad taste left for me and I'll be cancelling next month. They need to demonstrate something.
As for what games might show up? Rebirth, Stellar Blade, and Little Devil Inside seem likely, Silent Hill maybe, and wildcards like FF Tactics (at Nintendo Direct would be really cool too) or even the fabled FF9 Remake would be amazing. But again, no expectations on any of these. We'll see
So, yet another contractually obligated compilation of third party marketing. Sony really did not play this generation well. IT feels like they are setting themselves up to make mistakes others have already made, been hit hard by and either shut down from or are trying to recover from.
PS focused sites are reviewing FMV games and other nonsense because Sony ghosted this entire year, and during the biggest fall in a while, Sony has one Spiderboy game using a played out Ubisoft template and no roadmap beyond that to entice its fans other than earnings call roadmaps and marketing affirming they are shifting over half their entire focus toward live service, multiplayer gacha garbo.
When we do here from them its them selling us useless hardware for nonexistent software or releasing obligated pre recorded trailers they were paid to highlight within a certain time. The reality is, whether you like it or not, Xbox and their Sub service is a far better value than Sonys and a far better place to play third party bangers often times free, day one, with the sub,
We all know PS bread and butter was once their exclusives, but not so much anymore so stop beating that dead horse. and despite the glitz and glam of the production values, their first party games have largely grown stale, derivative, and frankly a little boring. I genuinely miss the days where good games were made in shorter time, with less bloated productions. Too much time between what they see as blockbuster games, and honestly, they are increasingly playing more like interactive movies than innovative games.
Is lords of the fallen day one on gamepass like lies of p, and most other big third party releases this year as well? I'm genuinely thinking about finally getting my first xbox, despite starfield being a huge letdown, especially with the ridiculous ps plus price hike despite them not even attempting to pay to put big third party games day one on the service. I got news for you Sony, if your plan is to coast of the strong deliveries from the third party front, probably should raise your sub prices when your competitor includes most of those third party titles on their sub service at no additional cost. Its just complete hubris. You cant ride the initial and lingering console scarcity gold rush forever sony.
shhh, I here the snorting grunts of the coming Sony defenders incoming..... I wonder if they'll call me negative, or ignore all context and question my ability to feel happiness rather than offer meaningful insights on the topic...... yay
@MinotauroBJJ In that case they might be comfortable not playing their hand yet. I was under impression starfield was quite a big deal but probably won't play it for many years myself. Spiderman will likely trounce it critically and commercially.
Doubt we get a showcase this year. Hoping to get a helldivers2 release date at lease and hopefully something plus related to justify the price hike.
@MinotauroBJJ MS has more than Starfield - Forza is releasing next month and by all accounts it is shaping up to be something special.
But they also have all of the gamepass games releasing day 1 which Sony has none of. like Lies of P.
And Nintendo always has something up their sleeve on their Directs. they are the best at the showcases.
pressure is on I think this video was ill-advised at best; a disaster at worst. we'll see Thursday is shaping up to be a fun one!
@Sequel I’m just basing this on feedback from user scores on steam and some big streamers. Consensus seems to be that the exploration elements are really poor. I’m sure it will move some units but it’s got nothing on a game like Spider-Man 2 although I’m admittedly bias
@Cashews yeah but Forza releases annually and people don’t really talk about those games much unless they’re into cars. Same with GT7. Awesome game but the online world never hyped it up like rpg games or other genres
Possibly the first time i'll go into a show without any hype. The last showcase genuinely damaged my enthusiasm for the future of Playstation. And a lack of first party content again after the last showing is a terrible decision.
Im sure if we see more FF7 rebirth i will get excited nonetheless. Lets see what they bring. Based on recent reveals, Stellar Blade will surely be getting a release date
@MinotauroBJJ Bi-annually but I get the point. The blogs have been talking about this one though.
you are probs right about the hype but who knows.
@Jireland92 well we don’t know how the Nintendo Direct will go so let’s wait and see.
Silent hill 2 news please!!!!
@anoyonmus Nintendo hasn't had a bad Direct in no one knows how long. They are so good people compare them for hours to past Directs on grading scales. In joy instead of mocking laughter and anger.
Wonder is coming out in a month. We actually do know how it's going to turn out.
Damn, PlayStation sure has sucked lately.
@Sequel I think it could be a mixture of going too heavy on live service and the whole Activision acquisition situation. Sony very well knows that it going through would result in their share prices plummeting (the EU approving the acquisition showed an insight into this) so they need something to counteract that drop.
Jesus, it’s Wednesday already? Could have sworn it was Monday yesterday
…. INSERT Angry at Sony Response Here
@KundaliniRising333 I own all three major consoles. You acting like you’re in a relationship with a toxic wife. These are just machines. Buy all of them that way when one of them is going through a slow period you can play the other more. There will be more games again soon. Xbox had an awful last year and it was collecting dust. They only just recently had a bit of a comeback. Anyway just saying it’s okay to like more than one thing
@Savage_Joe it has the potential to be the most fun video game discussion day of the entire year - and it has been a really good summer already. Tomorrow is going to be super fun.
@Cashews ik that past directs were fine but just because the last directs were fine doesn’t mean this will be also fine. It’s better to go in with low expectations and such.
Also ik that Nintendo says they will focus on games coming out this winter but they also just show brand new games off the bat as well.
@Savage_Joe can’t wait for the people to compare the two now.
Nintendo Direct is super early. 7 AM PT. Have to get up early then tmrw.
@MinotauroBJJ Disappointing or not. It certainly is making them a lot of money.
My predictions
Horizon 2pc port/complete edition
Helldivers2 release date and included with plus
Re4vr release date
Astro rescue mission port
Pacific drive release and coming to plus
Psplus update including PS5 streaming
Ps Stars coming to the system itself
Stellar blade release date
Mgs snake eater trailer
Silent hill 2 release date
Ff rebirth
Avatar trailer
Roblox trailer
Ends in the new ps5 model.
Welp that pretty much guarantees that a 2nd showcase isn't happening this year. I didn't expect one but I was holding out hope anyway after how disappointing the last one was but oh well.
Hopefully Stellar Blade is there at least. If I get that then I can walk away happy.
@MagisterMagi it could be like 15 or 20 min tbh.
At least Nintendo told us how long THEIR DIRECT is.
@anoyonmus the last direct hit us with Warioware, Wonder , Mario RPG and some Peach game no one knows about still that were previously unannounced - and then like 50 more new things.
No they really don't mess these up they know how to generate hype.
I have no expectations for the Nintendo Direct but I do expect the ND to be better than this SoP. 🤷
@MinotauroBJJ Wait, so you're saying the better option than voicing my criticisms on a topic and trajectory of a platform i once loved in a comment section available to do just that, i should just buy all gaming platforms, so that if one starts making some garbage moves, i can just play the other ones??
So, like if i went to the store, bought some moldy bread that was promised fresh, rather than voice my discontent, i should just next time by every bread from every bread company to ensure that i will at least guarantee that I'm not just stuck with the moldy bread? I guess that's one way to go about it. Not a bad idea.... damn i better make some more cabinet space for bread....., and every other product i purchase that has competitors. yeeeesh
i gotta long weekend ahead of me
I would like to see Helldivers and Stellar Blade release dates but I'm not that fussed either way as I still have a massive backlog of games to work through and Spiderman is coming soon. At the very least though I hope they show something to shut the habitual complainers up.
@Cashews ik they don’t mess these up but it is still safe to have low expectations.
@rjejr well the Nintendo Direct for me is at 7 am so yeah.
Let us wait and see.
I rather have a third party focus than a Spiderman 2, 30 minute deep dive. We get it already, it's a game that'll make a boat load of money and most of us are set to get it anyways.
With third party at least there's hope on some info on that team ninja Ronin game and stellar blade. Perhaps even mgs3 remake? Either way, it's present day Sony so brace yourselves for imminent disappointment.
At this point nobody can claim that fanboys have unrealistic expectations, Sony just makes one bad choice after the next...
It's always weird to remember the PS2/PS3 era Sony that was pumping out exclusives at a retrospectively insane rate. Or even PSone Sony that saw no idea as too esoteric (at least for release in Japan).
Contemporary Sony has practically beat me into submission at this point; at long as there's some cool indies, I guess I'll be happy. Well... I'll mostly be happy because of the Nintendo Direct in the morning — but I at least won't be upset at Sony regardless of what they show.
Tomorrow is staaaaacked!!!!
@KundaliniRising333 Not sure I quite understand the bread analogy. My point is you aren’t married to one console. Just buy an Xbox if you desire and when something comes out on the PS that you’re interested in go ahead and buy that. You said it yourself that GamePass is “free” so money isn’t obviously an issue. I just think some gamers treat these machines like a romantic partner. It’s okay to love more than one
At the very least, a release date for Re4 remake PSVR2 update. I am waiting for that to play that game
@MinotauroBJJ I know i was just being snarky. I am more a monogamous type of dude though. Sometimes its just easier that way.
It's not really a negative thing, like whining about a toxic partner to vent frustrations regarding the anti consumer trajectory of a major corporation. I fact i would argue that to not speak up and have an opinion on such matters, no matter in what aspect of society, that, ... that is the far more toxic and frankly ignorant take. One that when adopted on mass, has enormously negative implications for massive populations of life forms.
but i digress. I'm glad you have options,
@anoyonmus 10 for me - perfect!
@Cashews Well, same day as Nintendo's Direct, both announced the same day and this one only being focused on indies and third party games? !
More than anger, I think there could be interesting Indie/ third party games that they want both to announce the same day hitting both consoles. Yes, even if it is a meme by now, I believe Silksong is coming in between the announcements on both presentations.
@Cashews Alright. I am expecting an 8 or 9 out of 10 at best.
Lets see who gets it right.
@anoyonmus I meant 10AM. I really dont expect it to be a 10/10 score unless they curveball a Neo Switch. But I think the chances of that are 0%. An 8/10 would be great.
This could all be well and good, but this is not what Sony really needs right now. Hiding what they are making continues, and given how late in the year this is, I'd be shocked if we got another. So, we will have seen FAR more of what 3rd parties are making for the PS5 than Sony themselves.
No matter how much longer it takes to make games nowadays, there is literally no way that a decent amount of their developers wouldn't have something to show at this point. They aren't just sitting there twiddling their thumbs and playing Solitaire on their work computers. I guess the thought brought up on here yesterday of Stellar Blade being shown at their next State of Play was unfortunately wrong.
I love my PS5, but it's a borderline shame that it's doing so well given how bad PlayStation has been this gen. They can continue moving forward keeping their fans in the dark knowing that things are going good regardless, and that's not a good position really for fans. This isn't even whining either. They should have to show things at some point, as going on autopilot like they are now is a real shame.
@Cashews oh 10 AM. Sorry.
You are on East Coast eh?
Im on West Coast so 7 am for me.
Third party can still mean PS5 exclusives. Hoping a FFVII rebirth release date.
Tomorrow is looking good with this and the Nintendo direct, also this being focussed on third party and indies still means PlayStation Exclusives will be shown, Sony will not show any new first party games via a state of play, they will save those for a proper showcase.
But I suppose certain fake fans will still make a fuss.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah I’m a bit surprised by the negativity here. Switch and Xbox had first party droughts too during this gen. It happens and that’s why indies and third party games are important in this industry
@Cashews Forza has already been criticized heavily by fans for it's weird gray graphics, reusing old incorrect car models, a lack of tracks at launch, and the weird nonsense RPG elements. It'll probably be forgotten about after a few weeks like every Forza Motorsport game after 4
My predictions are a release date for stellar blade, little devil inside and possibly helldivers 2. I'm hoping to see some Japanese games shown as well since TGS is around the corner.
They also have Pragmata, FF7 ReBirth, Silent Hill 2 Remake and Rise of the Ronin they could all show, plenty to look forward to on playstation without first party.
@SlipperyFish lol go read early impressions of the game on every major site. or don't it doesnt matter to me in the slightest.
Cool that it's going to have a focus on indie games but I'm actually more excited for the Direct then this, which is pretty rare in all honesty.
Personally, looking forward to PSVR2 stuff, even about games previously announced! Sony needs to show some love for it cos it's a great bit of kit!!
@MinotauroBJJ Yeah the negativity towards sony is always twice as bad as what xbox/nintendo get, I mean xbox went over 12 months without anything at all not even third party AAA exclusives, atleast when sony has a dry spell they try to give us third party content to keep us tied over.
@Cashews dunno why you have to act like that, I was just saying. I care a lot more about what fans think than publications. I'm a huge racing game fan and have every reason to want Forza to be good, but I've been disappointed since FM4 and the reboot isn't looking so good.
@UltimateOtaku91 PS fans been spoilt rotten the last generation and now get upset when there aren't as many games or other platforms are getting good games
I hope all these directs this week is because the insiders know GTA 6 officially will be shown soon and they want to show off games before it all becomes overshadowed and irrelevant for a few years because 6 is gonna consume a lot of our time for awhile love it or hate it.
@SlipperyFish Citations please.Everything I have read is that it is looking great.
@cburg do Facebook fan groups and Twitter users count as citations? Lol.
@RoomWithaMoose whilst I really am not a fan of current Sony and can’t believe i’m actually defending them; in the case of your comment regarding pumping out exclusives at an insane rate - No one can get games out as quick as they used to - it just doesn’t happen any more. Not even Insomniac or Obsidian can keep up the rate games used to come out at. We got like Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask and Wind Waker in the space of 4/5 years (as well as the Oracle games from a different dev) Same with Final Fantasy VII to X. Crazy times. I would much preferred that had continued than to move to these more insane dev times but there we go.
I would be hyped if Team Ninja show Ronin. I hope the combat is epic and not dumbed down for a more casual leaning crowd
@SlipperyFish I havent bought a Forza since the 360 - I think it was 4 for me as well - which was a great game. I hope this next one is good. The early previews sound strong. We need an A+ racer.
This comment section is rising overflowing
Hopefully a new release date for The Plucky Squire!
@anoyonmus I'm at 10AM and 5PM which I like for both, and having both on the same day should have me super excited, but I'm just not expecting anything. Which is probably the best way to approach these type of things anyway. 🤷♂️
@K1LLEGAL Nintendo is releasing 1st party games at that rate.
Pikmin, Mario Wonder, Warioware, Fire Emblem, TOTK in one year.
if you want to count redos then Metroid prime, Advanced wars, Kirby Dreamland
You can absolutely release games at the early PS rate if you are nimble and smart enough. Which Sony obviously isn't right now. they are in disarray.
@Porco That game was delayed indefinitely so fat chance on getting any info anytime soon.
I guess we will be waiting a lot longer for info on that Stellar Blade game.
Seems Sony is going full Harry Maguire at the moment!
I'd like an update on Behemoth (surprised that one was slated for Quest 2 instead of Quest 3). Either way, it's supposed to be a 2023 release for PSVR2.
@Grumblevolcano Did I miss something I thought FFVII had a release of February 2024
Updates on Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin.....PLEASE!
And if I was really shooting for a fever dream, a release date for Black Myth Wukong 😁
@Cashews FM4 is absolutely god tier. One of the best.
Space Marine 2 release date, please!
Lol just knew some in the comments section will be going nutcases over this announcement, especially when the focus of this SoP will be indies and 3rd party only
Just finished my first playthrough of Shredders Revenge with Donatello from Extra on PS5, enjoyed it very much. And then afterwards came here for the news to read people acting as if Sony has just murdered their family pet or something. Like what did you expect, we all knew before this SoP announcement that there's not much 1st party over the next 6 months or more besides Spidey2
This SoP was not in anyway a reaction to Nintendos current Direct announcement, so stupid if you think that it was
Would I like a bit more 1st party from PS, yh of course I would, but over 90% of all the games I play on PlayStation are 3rd party games with quite a few indies too
@pharos_haven It currently has a release window of Early 2024.
Looking forward to both Nintendo Direct and this State of Play. Maybe Microsoft should do something this week as well just for kicks!
I love being platform agnostic - I can just enjoy the games without all the bitterness! 😁
Ok people, bets are open. Who’s in on Little Devil Inside showing up? 🤣🤣
@MasterChiefWiggum would be nice
I am keeping my expectations in check. Hoping we see more from Stellar Blade and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Anything beyond that would be a bonus for me. A surprise announcement would be whatever the next Monster Hunter game will be.
Excellent!
New Stellar Blade gameplay and/or a release date would make my day.
why would people be mad , it literally says what its about? i'm looking forward to whatever they show.
Well, I guess my expectations have been managed at least.
Really hoping for Helldivers 2 news and Stellar Blade.
I am starting not to care for indies anymore since there abundance of them of different types. I want big AAA games for 2024.
Probably gonna be a better show than the first party focused ones tbh
Nintendo Switch I'd hazard a guess would take less time to develop their 1st party games in comparison to the latest PS5 and Series X 1st party releases, hence why the Switch has been more consistent over the last few years on their 1st party side. Weird to think if Microsoft wasn't able to spend 7.5 billion for Starfield and Bethesda, all they'd have this year would be yet another Forza game
I don't want updates on games I already know about. Even if it is the focus on 3rd parties, I would like to see new announcements.
Huh.that came out of nowhere a little late.sony drop it like its hot.ok.we will see whats up.word up son
That's a pass from me. Let me know when they have some first party stuff that isn't Spider-Man 2.
Doesn't sound promising. We'll see.
@Beerheadgamer82 I'd wager Nintendo can make 3-4 games with the same budget sony spend on one of their big hitters, and their games aren't big in size or very graphically demanding so should be way easier to make and less time in development.
And yes you're right without that Bethesda takeover xbox would have had one game this year also, there would be no Hi-Fi Rush, Redfall or Starfield, just shows when they have no games they can just spend billions to buy some, something sony can't really do hence why they get timed exclusives. This is why it a annoys the hell out of me when people moan about sony getting timed exclusives but are OK with Microsoft spending absurds amounts of money to get the biggest publishers and make them fully exclusive.
People can't realistically expect sony to churn out 3-4 exclusives per year with the amount of studios they have unless they all make cartoony looking games and side scrollers, or spend £70+ billion on publishers with multiple studios under them.
Ok silly question, by why does it have to be about "this won't convince people to buy a ps5"? Why can't it be a "these great games are coming to the ps5, so to all you current owners, look at all the fun games you will soon play!"
@LiamCroft FYI a typo in the article I noticed is that it says 2pm ET / 5pm ET. I think you mean 2pm PT.
@SlipperyFish what changed since fm4 for you to be this disappointed?
@UltimateOtaku91 and then there's the day one 3rd party on GamePass Wu Long and Lies of P for example. Be really fascinating to see how much they end up costing Microsoft for these biggish 3rd party day ones, cant be cheap and in the long run will get super expensive. Sony having more subs and more consoles in homes, means they'll have to pay more than what Microsoft currently does for the exact same game day one on Plus if they went the similar route. Its things some gamers don't think about or simply don't care about and that's obviously fine because why would you care when your gaming, couple trillion vs many a billions and all that jazz
I'd love to see Nintendo go all out and be a fully updated home console instead of already being 3 or 5 years behind on every new console launch. I'm not having any of that argument about oh Nintendo don't need to be updated with the latest and greatest. Why not Nintendo having a proper full 4K 60fps rays HDR home console no gimmicks and a brand new top tier dedicated handheld as well for the massive handheld crowd. No need for any Nintendo gamers to worry about parity in many massive 3rd party games this way. Also Nintys 1st party will look the best it's ever looked and silky smooth. Throw in their own version of trophies as well why not
Alright! Bring on the kindergarten teacher presenter lady!
@UltimateOtaku91 Minecraft Legends. And the console editions of hit Pc games games like AoE IV etc.
You should expect Sony to put out 3-4 games a year. MS put out 5. Nintendo the same. It is called a pipeline and you need one. Whether you need to scale down some games and make some games bigger that is on the company. If they don't deliver a product why is it on you to hold their water when the other companies are doing everything better?
It is okay to admit 2023 is a terrible year for Sony. It is okay to demand that they do better. 1 middling game isn't enough for any expensive console when the other two companies have the covid funk so far in the rearview you cannot see it.
@Porco I've been holding out for the slim before I buy a PS5. Probably won't be announced tomorrow, but a man can hope. 🤞
Wasn't the last one so bad suicide squad was delayed a year?
Alright. At least we know what to expect.
And it will be overshadowed by the Nintendo Direct.... shakes head
If there are any news about Steller Blade I will be satisfied by just that alone, outside of it I keep very low expectations as usual.
I am going to say that this state of play could be anything from terrible to ok.
The worst ever being the one on Suicide Squad, where we saw such a mess that the game itself either died right out or were put in a coma. Assisted Suicide Squad.
This version of SONY is making mistakes left and right
So yeah, I have a ps5 and now I will only buy discounted games and I don't care about not having access to old PS plus games.
Knew I shouldn’t have opened the comments section 🤦🏻♂️
Same day as Nintendo and CDPR/Cyberpunk? Ok then
All the comments along the lines of 'Sony need to show reasons to own a PS5' when they've sold the best part of 50 million of them so far with sales increasing month on month and year on year... right now, they really don't. I'd suggest they could wait until 2024 to show ANYTHING first party, when the bounce from doing so would be of more benefit - though I do expect a final Spidey trailer reveal soon.
@EfYI I don't like the direction Sony has been going in for a while either, but counting that first point as a mistake by Sony is absurd. "Allowed MS to consume Bethesda and Activision"? That was never in their hands, there was nothing they could do to prevent that.
@Ainu20
Sure! It is absurd. It is still such a big development that I feel it impacts my relationship with PlayStation. Don't now how to put it otherwise
@EfYI Sure, it changes how attractive the system is, depending on what games you want to play, that's understandable. But it doesn't make sense to blame Sony for that. If anyone or anything is to blame, it's the infinitely deep pockets of MS and their tendency towards hyper aggressive market consolidation.
Not great timing if Nintendo announce the Switch U at their direct tonight.
@dnb Honestly, I don't think I am overreacting. I spent $500 on a console that has around 4 exclusive games. Everything else Sony has made for PS5 can be played on PS4 and/or PC. There is literally nothing upcoming from Sony with even a release window except for Spider-Man, and we are 3 and a half years into the console generation. Microsoft has released 3-4 exclusive games this year and Nintendo has released at least 1 or more exclusives games per month. Both Nintendo and Microsoft have released 1st party games this year that are GOTY contenders. Over the course of what has been on of the greatest years in gaming history, Sony has released literally nothing except DLC for Horizon Forbidden West. FFVI is a timed exclusive, so it'll come to all of the other platforms some time next year, plus it's 3rd party, not 1st party. The last 1st party game Sony released was GoW:R, and that was almost a year ago, and it'll probably come to PC next year. Yes, I am disappointed with PS5. Sony has kept their fans and customers in the dark for far too long and all they have to show for it is a price hike for a service that they added zero extra value to and a useless handheld streaming device.
If they show a good bit of FFVII Rebirth and potentially a release date, then the rest could be shovel-ware and I'd still rate it 10/10
I just want Gen Design, Grasshopper and ghost story games to be there. I’m licking the tears of salty gamers who are trying to justify their console purchase with exclusives. Dudes are upset because there are games on PS5 that could be played elsewhere. “I’m only watching exclusive content on Netflix, if it’s also on Prime, it does not justify my subscription.”
Probably Jim Ryan on stage saying how much his shares have gone up in value. He'll then drop the mic and walk off, end of show.
Seriously, we all bought a PS5 for next gen games and we still haven't seen anything. I'd say that the launch(ish) PS5 games were barely more than a PS4 (or in one case PS3) games tarted up a bit.
@sanderson72 id say Astro pre-installed on PS5 was worth my PS5 purchase alone! It’s fantastic and a love letter to PlayStation.
@Cherip-the-Ripper well it starts with FM5 being a huge downgrade from 4. 300 less cars, only 20 locations, and changes to the career mode. From there, 6 and 7 are simply trying to get back to how good 4 was. The lack of environments in the new game (20 VS FM7's 33), and the weird RPG leveling system instead of just using credits like every other racing game on the planet, are my two biggest concerns. For me though I'd have to buy a Series console so it's a lot more money for me VS someone who already has one who wouldn't be as fussy. I did buy an xbone just for the Forza games but was a bit disappointed and regretted buying it, and don't want to repeat that mistake
Why don’t they announce the new PS5 already, the rumoured slightly smaller one with removable disk drive. Get a Christmas boost. And don’t choose the same day as a Nintendo direct as Ninty have a ton of first party games in the wings they can announce today.
@sanderson72 Need those Unreal Engine 5 games to hit.
@Beerheadgamer82 It would've been a bit more than that regarding Xbox Game Studios without Bethesda:
My point being that one of the reasons Sony has a smaller library is that their lack of interest in bringing back old games, even PS+ Premium seems like an afterthought. Ports/remasters/remakes is one of the reasons Nintendo's lineup is so packed a lot of the time. This year for example had:
There will probably be more announced in today's Direct for this year as well.
Each company's approach seems to be:
@Oz_Momotaro You say that as if Sony included a game while knowing it would never see the light of day. Doesn't work like that. Games get caught up in development hell, these things happen. Add the effects of covid on video game development into the mix and it basically becomes inevitable that some games suffer.
@SlipperyFish
Ah I see, was that one of those changes car racing devs always do because they say they want to put more detail and work into each individual car?
Are you not planning on streaming fm on your xbone when it becomes available then?
@Grumblevolcano Sony can't bring back some of their old IPs as they've shut down studios.
I mean we all want WipeOut, Everybody's Golf and Motorstorm but Studio Liverpool, Japan Studio and Evolution are all long gone.
San Diego studio hold the rights to ModNation Racers (after United Front bit the dust) but we've seen nothing of that franchise since the Vita sequel in 2012. Sony just don't seem to be making anything creative any more.
@Cherip-the-Ripper no not at all. In fact a lot of the models were recycled since FM4. People have noticed the same inaccuracies in cars models in every game (Silvia s15 for example)
@Cherip-the-Ripper no I sold my xbone
It is very obvious that Playstation 1st party is in a bad state right now and anyone denying it is just unwilling to accept the truth.
Seriously guys, we need to question leadership more because this is slowly turning into a lost generation.
I have ps plus premium until March 2033, but I’m content just playing Fortnite on my sweet PS5. Sorry for being complacent.
@lightningbolt79 we'll be getting a phenomenal sequel next month which is Spider-Man followed by Helldivers 2. They did also release MLB, horizon VR, firewall. They also have had and will release more 3rd party exclusives like FF16, ff7r etc etc. People have and are purchasing ps5 like there's no tomorrow because of their track record. Just because YOU don't know what's coming in 2-4 yrs from now doesn't mean other people aren't excited. PS doesn't announce games so early anymore, they like to talk about games releasing within the next yr for the most part
@grimgaming wish you'd commented sooner. Never buy into doomsday type comments but yours is very well put together.
More people needa read it.
Also funny Maguire caught a stray 😂
I'd love to see Rise of Ronin as it is from a 3rd party developer but published by Sony.
What would really blow everything out the water is Persona 6 or GTA 6. Maybe the revised console announcement too.
I would honestly love to see a take on a AAA MegaMan/X game.
Fans be like: We wanna see more support for Indy studios. Sony shows support for Indy studios. Fans cry because they want 1st party games. It’s so weird…
@Oz_Momotaro Was it really the same trailer as something shown 8 years ago? That would certainly be egregious. Surely that can't be true?
As for games coming good after development hell, unfortunately only happens extremely rarely. Only one I can think of is Dying Light 2.
I'm hoping it'll be a PS5 slim announcement. It's do or die. If it's this year, this is when it'll be announced.🤞
@Oz_Momotaro What Ember Lab did with Kena was remarkable. The visual splendor of that game betrays their roots as an animation studio, but what surprised me is how strong the game part of it was.
Doesn't look we should expect that from Little Devil Inside. Having watched both trailers now, clearly significant progress was made but hardly 5 years worth of progress, and that was already 3+ years ago. Safe to say there is little to no hope left for this game.
I feel with the huge price increase and starfield coming out that they would really try and do a great show with 1st party games to win us over. Kind of disappointed
@Grumblevolcano At some point there has to be on off year or 18 months of not much going on. Games get pushed back or heavily delayed all the time like TLoU multiplayer for example. There's been reports of games taking a lot longer than previous gen too. Still far more excited for what's to come on PS5 than I am on other consoles. Never played Skyrim, just never interested me over the years so naturally something like Starfield doesn't interest me in the slightest, same with any Fallout game has never been to my tastes either. Even when looking at whats to come for Xbox in the future doesn't excite me much at all tbh. Do like all sorts of racing games so naturally Forza peaks my interests, but is that really worth splashing out 500 for a Series X and a few months GamePass, not really. Do miss a Zelda adventure and a new fun Mario platformer from time to time. On the other hand PS have so many games, like a lot of sequels I can't wait to play and new unannounced IP from quite a few PS studios I really adore. Even the PS4 had an of off year or almost a couple years with not much going on but then hit the ground running from 2017 HZD onwards. Previous PS Showcase was a let down, there's no denying that but it ain't all doom and gloom like some like to paint it. Can't just click your fingers and expect a game to magically get announced when they can take up to 4 or maybe 6 years to make, sometimes longer. So yh sometimes there's gonna be remasters, remakes and the many great 3rd party games that we rely on to fill the gaps inbetween
@Beerheadgamer82 The Switch is so cheap and easy and legendary I can't fathom why everyone who likes video games doesn't have one. I can only assume it is a self-flagellation thing.
@Cashews Agreed, everyone should at least consider owning a Switch as a second console, if they "main" another system.
@Cashews I'd really like to own a Switch. It's mostly down to money and time though. I agree having them all is always best but that's simply not an option for so many. So concentrating time and money on one makes a lot of sense for a lot of gamers. I do hate some opinions trying to come across as if they have a far better more valid opinion than others because they own them all kinda mentality, not all that own them all are like that but I hate the ones that do. I'd like to have them all tbh
@Ainu20 if for nothing else than for vacations and downtime away from home. Trains, doctor's offices, your kid's graduation. endless possibilities of boredom await!
for reals though a switch lite at minimum.
@Beerheadgamer82 that makes sense. Money and time is certainly finite. It is a great little system! though! take it easy my man!
@Cashews 10 min for me to start. Let’s see what happens.
@Grimwood
I wonder if people liked your comment for the sarcasm or because they think it's that easy. Unless it wasn't sarcasm and in that case, I will bid you adieu
I will say that for the lack of 1st party games on the horizon except Spiderman, increasing the price of the subscriptions service, etc. Sony is selling a crap ton of PS5's. It shows how powerful the brand is. I say this as someone who owns all three consoles and the majority of games I play is on Xbox.
I wonder if we will get a Vampire survivors release date. If the leaks are to believed the only thing that will interest me is FFVIIR2 but a Vampire survivors release date might make it more bearable for myself.
Just seen the announcement video of Tomb Raider I-III Remastered Starring Lara Croft on the Switch.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hk55TwWYTFg
Are we getting a PS port too, I wonder?
@Cashews Ok so I watched the Direct and well, it was pretty decent. It wasn't as good as like the last September direct but they showed some good stuff. The Tomb Raider 1-3 HD ports, The Paper Mario: TTYD HD, more of the Princess Peach game, Mario Vs DK, and yeah. Its fairly solid. I'll give it a 7.5 or an 8 out of 10.
@sanderson72 maybe in a later announcement? Idk.
PS has the rebooted trilogy.
@sanderson72 I've wanted a port/remake of the original Tomb Raider games with Trophy support for ages. Never touch my Switch anymore, but will for this...if it doesn't make it to PlayStation...
@anoyonmus I give it a 7. I probably would have enjoyed it more but the final reveal was a bummer for me personally. TTYD is a great game and I know how many people were dying for it - but remakes bore me to tears and these shows are filled with more and more of them every quarter.
still enough for me though. Trombone Champ and FZero 99 I am downloading and playing today. Those two stole the show for me. the Atlus Unicorn game looks badass and right in my wheelhourse too.
1 down 1 to go!
@Cashews Yeah. Lets see how the PS Showcase will go. I am only hoping to see some more FNAF Help Wanted 2 (maybe Silent Hill too as well) and thats all. No first party games there so people are gonna be bitching about it.
@Kidfried 2 games is not a lot, that’s actually laughable compared to even the ps3 generation.
@Mauzuri Bruh how do you know the State of Play will suck? It didn't even start yet!!!
@Mauzuri you are like a person stuck in time.
PS hasn't happened yet and Xbox for sure does these.
I suppose you already had this all ready and typed out though. Was your mission successful?
@Mauzuri state of play didn't happen yet so you can't know. Nintendo's direct was average to be honest, unless you're a die hard Mario fan, then yes it was amazing.
@Cashews IKR. Did you see my reaction to his coment? I said it didn't even start yet LMAO.
@Mauzuri no its start at 2 pm PT. Or wherever you are.
But it is AFTER THE NINTENDO DIRECT.
@Mauzuri Bro got the times confused lmao.
@Mauzuri dude at least be a good troll. To troll properly you at least need some real facts or an idea what the subject matter is. You need some major work young mister.
The Nintendo Direct was decent but not mind blowing for myself as a switch owner. It does either take a bit of pressure of Sony or actually set them up for a really strong showing.
I hope the cover stellar blade and Rise of Ronin as 3rd party devloped games which will be published as exclusives. Little Dragon inside is also a showing for 2024. The Wolverine game will be the big one for Fall 2024.
2024 could be more of a PS5 pro and upscale exsisting PS5 games kind of year.
@Oz_Momotaro Well the PS5 is huge, do rat need a Peo, just the slim model like they have done for every generation. They don’t need to launch an 8” mobile device to stream your games to either but here we are.
@AdamNovice Only game guerilla should be releasing is another killzone instead of letting the franchise rot because they messed up with shadow fall
@UltimateOtaku91 But they aren't timed exclusives, FF7 remake is the biggest example of this, a game that took over a year to come to steam, is still overpriced even on steam sale and has been paid for to never come to the Xbox system, same thing would have happened with starfield, i mean the whole reason Microsoft purchased Bethesda was because sony were trying to get that FF7 remake exclude Xbox exclusivity on starfield.
@Darylb88 scenario 3: or the mediocre direct will make them look even worse. That was a middling Direct by Nintendo standards. if the same Direct was the State of Play a parade would be held. 10/10 they'd yell at every rooftop.
Look at this site. they are using a Nintendo Direct to hype PS games. that is how bad it's gotten and people don't even realize it's a problem.
@Ainu20 I don't think dying light 2 was in development hell 🤔 don't you mean dead island 2?
@Deityjester No I did mean Dying Light 2 by Techland. In hindsight development hell was probably too strong a term, but it was at least a troubled development, with a lot of unrest, employees complaining about a toxic workplace, management having to publicly deny the game was in fact in development hell but admitting they announced it way too early and to top it all off, the issues surrounding Chris Avellone who had to leave the project early.
Considering all that went down, that game turned it really well. But yes, there have definitely been much, much worse examples of development hell.
@lightningbolt79 I didn’t mean to come off as big ass as I did. Just read what I wrote again. I don’t like making this stuff about ps vs Xbox either. Im a gamer. I have series x and ps5. Since launch I have to say ps5 has just dominated. And as far as games that are on both, why would I choose Xbox? We choose our systems based on exclusives for most part. Sony continues to release amazing exclusives. I was hyped for halo infinite. But it just wasn’t that great to me. I’m no racing fan so forza is no go. As far as an S I have one one in bedroom. Mainly for streaming. But I would take the more expensive ps5 over that again for games. If my wife said you have to sell 2 systems it would be both my Xbox’s. I’m not gonna miss out on spider man 2. Wolverine probably next year. And of course ps games I playing now. I only looked forward to couple Xbox games. Starfield and avowed. Starfield is great. But still not reason to buy x instead of ps. That’s just my opinion. Last thing. Sony working on around 10 multiplayer games. No clue what are but I’m thinking something in there is gonna be mind blowing. My dream is a new Warhawk made by bungie lol.
@grimgaming uhh not sure what random sites you get your false into from but Cory Barlog is working on a new ip, which is rumored to be a space rpg. and Niel has said hes working on a new game.
